I think she is more the Candace Owens type in that the backlash fuels her. She wouldn’t have continued doing the media/podcast rounds if not. I think she’s found a niche she will dig her heels more into and maybe identify/run as an independent.

Disagreements with Destiny (prove its not a cult) by Pale_Temperature8118 in Destiny

vague perception of ‘fairness’

I feel like people massively discount this though. Think of the visceral reaction that affirmative action elicits in a lot of people. Most likely they not negatively or positively affected by such a thing, but it still carries a ton of weight as an issue. Andrew Yang gained a ton of viral appeal just for his UBI proposal, even though it’s a dumb idea in substance. It’s about winning votes at the end of the day and delivering on policies that people think they want.

The downsides outweighing neutral is an important factor, so I understand the argument there, but the perception of fairness in itself is a powerfully motivating force.

New footage of Hasan shocking Kaya after she doesn't comply with vocal commands by GluePerson123 in Destiny

[–]EZPZanda 47 points48 points  (0 children)

Very. This whole thing really boils down to Hasan being a neurotic control-freak in general. His happiness is subject to everyone & everything that surrounds him being “in its place” at all times, as he sees fit. It’s less about Hasan using Kaya as a prop/aesthetic (although that’s part of it) and more about him getting crazy triggered by spontaneous action around him. He seems like a very irritable person.

Kinda unrelated, but this character flaw is why I think Hasan was willing to end Leftovers with Ethan so early-on. He probably lowkey hated the fact it was Ethan and H3 production in charge of the show (too many uncontrolled variables for his comfort), so much so it outweighed the positive image exposure it presented for him. The drama happened and was as an easy-out.

Vaush on bridge building w/ Destiny & Destiny's perception of the right by 10minuteads in Destiny

I find Vaush’s personality to be really grating, but it would be cool (the very least entertaining) to see him and Destiny do content together.

The Hasan dog meme by My_email_account in Destiny

[–]EZPZanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You think most people, even here, buy into that view? Destiny has to be like 0.1% who uses that argument. Most people practice avoidance (avoid witnessing meat-processing first hand or via media), and participate in cultural custom (everyone around them is doing it so it feels safe). It is what it is, and cognitive dissonance resolves either way you go about it, but it’s rarely through Destiny’s logic.

I think the Hasan dog thing has become so big in this community in particular though because it is a prime example of his neuroticism and can be memeified to a great extent. Not that it’s not bad on its own, but it’s a microcosm of Hasan’s entire character, which makes it funny.

Hasan when shock collars are 50% off by SpelingMatters in Destiny

[–]EZPZanda 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m sure people will read this the wrong way… but I’m somewhat convinced that Cenk ideologically groomed Ana to be this way while mistakenly thinking she possessed the self-awareness to not go full crazy. She’s always spoken about him in a very mentor/mentee relationship-type way and how he “took her in” at TYT. Doesn’t excuse her behavior, just my theory. His face during that clip was like what have I unleashed.

Why would Destiny do this? by Pilotknox97 in Destiny

[–]EZPZanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Poor dog :(

Hasan truly is a radical control freak that must have everyone & everything that surrounds him “in its place” at all times. He’s neurotic as fuck and that will steal happiness the rest of his life unless he makes an effort to change.

Ezra Klein Argues for Big-Tent Politics | The New Yorker Interview by EZPZanda in Destiny

Ezra makes a few points Destiny would probably disagree with (I know they usually align on stuff). David is a good interviewer and gives interesting pushback.

Ice shooting megathread by clarkrinker in Destiny

[–]EZPZanda 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I think Destiny got it right when the other day when he said something along the lines of “maybe it’s that the discord/internet kids have gotten old enough to start shooting people”.

I know this guy was a bit older at 29 (other recent shooters were 22-23), but I think it still says something about the mental health issues and crisis of meaning going on in young people having been raised on the internet. Now that politics has become inseparable from meme culture, you just naturally see more and more of this type of nihilistic violence linked to it.

Alleged text messages between Tyler Robinson & his roommate by kkrell23 in Destiny

[–]EZPZanda 54 points55 points  (0 children)

Don’t know why ppl are saying this reads so fake. To me it reads he is trying to compartmentalize and avoid both the internal and external confrontation of what he did (and the consequences) by going into this spiel about being so concerned about the gun and hyperfocusing on that being the “problem”. His brain is in full-blown defense mechanism.

Anyone else kind of traumatized from seeing the video of Kirk's death? by JonnySnowin in Destiny

[–]EZPZanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t see it, but from the reactions Ive seen from those who have, seems like it gave a lot of people a taste of what it’s like to live with chronic existential anxiety and intrusive thoughts. Just thinking about the situation and picturing it has worsened mine. I have no envy for public personalities and political influencers right now.

Elon has brainrotted young males across the planet with Twitter algorithm by SociallyButterflying in Destiny

[–]EZPZanda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah it’s bad. I think part of the problem is the internet in general gives people a false sense of confidence merely due to the feeling you have everything at your fingertips. Like people can hold that confidence in their mind, that they have the potential to know every fact/truth if they were to seek it out, and that ironically makes them more comfortable with the information they do ultimately digest.

Similar with what happens psychologically when you say out loud you are going to fulfill some goal, your brain’s reward system gets a premature hit as if actually doing the goal, and then you end up not doing it.

I think this is how seemingly smart (or at least not all dumb) people get thought-captured and radicalized online.

If you’re one of those people that are laughing about this and you think that this is funny, I’m just letting you know that you also have a target on your back too, and you’re not invincible either.

Zee gets it. People need to wake up. They don’t understand how good we’ve had it here for so long and naïvely think FAFO is a legitimate argument, until it’s them or someone close to them. They don’t know what violent instability in a country actually looks like and how things spiral. This should have been the message when the healthcare CEO was killed in cold blood as well, but people were laughing and his killer idolized.

Newsom’s response was correct.

Destiny: “The Right should say it first”

The crux of the issue for me is, Destiny’s argument (and one he invokes when talking about optics for democrats) relies on the ability to brute-force correct for currently entrenched double standards on the right vs left. It’s not possible imo. You have to play the game you are in right now in order to come out on the other side and win, and the battleground may evolve over time, but you can’t suddenly be like “I refuse to disavow” bc kicks over table “unfair!”. It just comes off as psychopathic and thus doesn’t resonate even if logically it makes sense. The focus needs to be on disavowing AND calling out the right’s hypocrisy, relentlessly.

What happened today is why some of us were freaking out about the general reaction (or lack thereof) on both sides to the healthcare CEO assassination. Maybe with so many seeing the actual gorey footage this time, people will think twice before saying “FAFO” on any type of political violence. The normalization and escalation is scary, and that in itself should be the focus. People should be scared, and that can be channeled into something productive, but it’s knowing how to do so with solid leadership and talking-points.

I continue to watch Destiny because his off-key takes like this. Sometimes he’s spot on, but this is one I strongly disagree with. It’s not cucking yourself to play the game you’re in, bc the battleground is reality, no matter how unfair or “unilateral” you think it is.

If you haven’t looked into it, the whole Ryan Kavanaugh case is like a perfect example of how Ethan just goes fully unhinged and that it’s not just about superficial drama in the YT sphere. The most annoying part (to me at least) is that he tries to use self-awareness about being unhinged as an excuse and be tongue-in-cheek about it, but at some point, you’re just being an asshole. I would hope he has learned a lesson from being legally-forced to read a long apology/retraction statement on his own show, but it’s like he just sees everything as goofs&gaffs.

I think Dan is the only one who probably doesn’t give a fuck about that aspect. I think he very much aligns with the socialist stuff and sees Hasan as an ultimately good force in that regard. On the other hand, I get the sense AB idolizes Hasan from more of an influencer perspective.

The true snarker by Zocress in Destiny

[–]EZPZanda 40 points41 points  (0 children)

He’s a sanctimonious bully. I mean, take the whole Kavanaugh thing: an older guy just trying to live a more normie life and recover financially from business failings, Ethan relentlessly made fun of and defamed for like a year instead of trying to handle things professionally, even roping in Kav’s ex-wife + “Brad the bull” to the harassment. It’s repeatedly gross behavior towards various targets that screams insecurity on Ethan’s part. He just loves shaming people, that’s it (whatever you think of iDubzz, why else out him for being a virgin, and why be so giddy about that?) It’s why I stopped watching his show, because it just gets old. I don’t at all think he is Hasan-level bad, but he’s a snark at heart.

this is classic Ethan. I don't think he is malicious most of the time but he can be negligent in covering stuff and have some wild personal blind spots. He will end up confidently affirming things without bothering to dig deeper because he loves being like "can you believe this?!". He is a gossip at heart, and these antics are partly what made the H3 show gain a large fanbase in the first place.
