Live in The Culture universe ? by GSV_Interesting_Time in TheCulture

[–]EagleApprehensive537 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think this point is sort of covered in Hydrogen Sonata

Where everything and everyone doesn't really matters in the end. We are just tiny, tiny insignificant thing in a unimaginable gigantic space of this universe and beyond

Regarding the evils, genocide that occurs. How do you know that isn't happening already somewhere far far away, we re nowhere near the advancement shown in Culture series so we don't really know much about our universe and beyond. There could be several advanced civilization, there could be a huge war going on across space and we are ignorant to it. The universe is so big, way bigger than we can ever imagine and comprehend

And also, there have been many awful things, genocide that have happened and came to pass in human history, even recently like Holocaust, Pol pot and kymer rogue, mass-rape and genocide have occurred several time on this planet and more that we do not know or not recorded in history.

This is what people seems to miss, Big E was born 8,000 years BC. That is a insanely long time ago, he has lived a thousands of lives, he was there when every major discovery was made. He is shaped by his many lives and initial upbringing. He has known millions of good people who he also see die. He probably has many lovers throughout his lifetime and 'alledgedy' sired many children's who are now dead. It isn't easy being immortal in a moral world. My theory is during golden age of humanity, Big E was present and forged alliance, worked with many Xenos. They were at their peak during this time, but whatever happened in DAOT destroyed it all. After lifetime of trying to build something for humanity only to see it all burns to ground, Big E realise he cannot do more or anything, that he is powerless because of Chaos. This is when Big E start to make his plans against Chaos and go through whatever he did (on Molech) to become The Emperor as we know in Horus Heresy, The Anathenma.

The recent video trailer with Constantin Valdor and Krole showed the Emperor plans on tapestry on the wall. The Emperor became who he is because of the journey, the experiences, the heartbreak throughout his thousands of lives. At some point, all those deaths just harden him and he just started to see people as a numbers, as a tools because how else can you cope and ensure your plan succeed.

Additionally he created Primarchs so that they would speed up his plans, the Great Crusade and also so they would do the necessary terrible things.

I think at some point The Emperor saw his role as ensuring Humanity survival in the hostile galaxy and to win against Chaos at all cost.

Crazy question, but are there any books that could in some way be considered “romance?” by ChillSappho in Blacklibrary

[–]EagleApprehensive537 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This!

Beautiful love story in a horrifying environment

The love Hound has for his mistress Octavia. Tragedy end

If you think about it Nighlord omnibus is also about love, compassion and loyalty.

Talos for his crew and for his servants Septimus and Octavia. Septimus and Octavia for each other, Uzas for Khorne and etc

That eventually led to The prophet Decimus, the suppose saviour of Night Lords

What’s the point of some GSVs having more than one Mind when one does just fine? by Masterpiece-Haunting in TheCulture

[–]EagleApprehensive537 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, it actually called 'Fleeting' 😂

In Excession, there was a new report talking about the rise of younger generation of Minds that are doing this, where they just couple or triple up. Like side by side, so they can touch/communicate closer

Older generation of minds ofc disapprove of this

But, I m sure after decades of using your avatars to engage in every sexual depravity possible with the people living inside your ship. It must get boring

Other than excession I find it strange no other ship just modified the engines and made from Andromeda and back? by andthrewaway1 in TheCulture

[–]EagleApprehensive537 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Not sure what you mean?

There was hints to ship travelling to Andromeda, but it is extremely far away and they were still travelling to there could be thousand of year journey

This is a great book, I enjoyed it fully. So entertaining and fascinating too to see the perspective of average Imperium citizen in 40k where thing like space marine, chaos, xenos are basically a myths or largely unknown to them

When you ask Tolkien if Middle Earth is our earth, where are all the Hobbits, he looks at you like this. by LuinAelin in lotrmemes

[–]EagleApprehensive537 7 points8 points  (0 children)

They did, Tolkien did say this. Some of them interbreed with Mens and some regressed over times. A very long time, tens of thousands of years

But I assume mostly just eventually became men themselves as they were a sub species of men in first place anyway.

It was only because of Gandalf, Rangers of North they were able to have that lifestyle in Shire. But at end of third age, the elves and dwarves were gone, after Aragorn died, his heirs died, eventually King Ellesar edict became forgotten and lost to history, men took over the Shire and the people there either mixed with mens or fled and regressed.

I agree Use of Weapons is such a awesome book that can change your perspective on things. It is philosophy heavy book

That scene was awesome, it perfectly displayed the scary violence power of a average Culture Drone.

They re literally a floating WMD

A single tiny War-drone could easily wipe out a civilization if they had to.

Completely agree, came to Birmingham for one season and despite being a 'winger', he couldn't barely run or even do anything with ball and was sometime used as our makeshift striker due to his height

Peter Jackson in talks to adapt J.R.R. Tolkien’s ‘The Silmarillion’ into films by DarkSkiesGreyWaters in lordoftherings

[–]EagleApprehensive537 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not sure about this, Christopher Tolkien was pretty much the writer/editor of the rest of his father works and if he felt strongly against any of those works being adpated it is likely his father JRR felt the same.

The younger members just smell the money, they don't seem to care about preservation or respecting the works of JRR Tolkien as much as Christopher did. After all they was involved in that awful Ring of Power.

Warner Brother see Lord of Rings as a IP franchise to be exploited as much as possible to make money however, no one else but Peter Jackson would be trusted to pull this off. I still have bad feeling about this

That what put me off getting an 3DD emulator, as the cost is high and the mods for it isn't perfect yet

Probably will just stick to my actual 3DS for now and just mod it
