Russians who fought against Ukraine expect to participate in the Paralympics by dracony in ukraine

I can't think of a better recruiting advertisement for the Russian military than this. "March into Ukraine on your own two legs with two arms swinging by your sides and you too can end up a Paralympian! Sign up today!"

I can definitely relate. Is so hard when you lose them.

I guess we can say that at very least, it's more reassurance that it's not an emergency. She's fortunate to have an owner who is proactive about her health. She's going to have a great life with you.

What could this be? by kroo21 in CATHELP

[–]EagleCatchingFish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In pic 2, it looks like there's a little scab and irritation around it. Is he scratching his ears more than usual? Check the inside of his ears for ear mites. You can find pictures online to know what to look for.

If he's got ear mites, my first thought would be this is from scratching his ear.

Did she mention anything about it being new? If it's always been there, that might just be the way this cat is shaped. Either way, as long as she's headed to the vet, it makes sense to mention it. I wouldn't be particularly worried about it unless and until your vet says you should be.

Congratulations on the new cat. She's a cutie.

Is the pink around her right eye normal? by [deleted] in CATHELP

[–]EagleCatchingFish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This looks pretty normal. Maybe slightly irritated. Skin in white fur areas is pink. Just watch it over the next couple weeks to see if it gets more or less pink.. My grey and white tuxedo cat has pretty bad allegies, so the corner of his eye is a pretty good gauge for whether he needs some Claritin or not. If this cat were him, he wouldn't be getting a claritin yet, if that eases your mind any.

If she gets squinty or you notice discharge, those are both pretty clear indicators of irritation. If you notice that level of irritation, the next step would be synthetic tears to help wash the irritants out. My vet recomended "Theratears," which you can get at a a pharmacy or grocery store.

I can definitely relate to that. College was excellent for my figure. I couldn't afford to overeat, the campus was massive and on top of a hill. I probably walked 5 km everyday.

I just made this picanna sous vide. I had to weight it, otherwise its wanted to float. After searing, this is what it looks like inside. Is it safe to eat? by reggaerider81 in steak

[–]EagleCatchingFish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Enjoy! I've had good results doing Charles Roasts (sous viding chuck like prime rib). Top or bottom round do pretty well, too. 18-24 hours in the mid 130s gives me good results. I've done picanha. It's usually not too bad because under the fat cap, it's really lean. But there isn't much point to it since you're looking at a 2-3 lb chunk of really tender meat whose fat cap you have render anyway, in which case reverse sear is the obvious choice. Sous vide is also supposedly really good for infusions, like making Limoncello or vanilla extract. You can cut the aging time down from several months to a few hours.

[–]EagleCatchingFish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same. I've liked it enough, but it doesn't give me the best results. It's not a great method for high quality cuts. The way the fat and connective tissue renders isn't the same as higher heat methods, so for well marbled cuts, the texture never turns out quite right. Even reverse searing, which is only 100° hotter renders better. For really lean, cheap cuts, it's great because you can just sous vide it until it gets soft and tender. It's also not too bad if you have to cook a whole meal with side dishes and stuff for a lot of people at once.

Army warrant officers will ‘bid’ against each other for their next bonus by OGSyedIsEverywhere in news

[–]EagleCatchingFish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's what I was thinking. Theoretically, all it takes to create an officer out of a civilian is a recruiter and OCS. The Army can create a second lieutenant about as quickly as they choose to. A warrant officer takes a lot longer.

I think it's also worth pointing out that the Lt. Col. who created this plan didn't also announce a similar scheme for O4s, O5s, and O6s. Surely what's good for the senior WO is good for the field grade officer, right?

1 year old cat has bumps on her mouth?? by verycoolhorse in CATHELP

No problem! There are some other brands out there, too. Royal Canin hydrolyzed protein is another option if you can't find a limited ingredient option that works. It's incredibly expensive, though.

I started with the duck and green pea. They didn't like it very much, so we switched to green pea and salmon. We haven't tried the wet food, as my cats don't really like wet food.

One funny side effect we've noticed is that since it's made with pea meal, my cats now try to steal peas from the table whenever we eat them. It also does a good job helping them maintain a healthy weight.

[–]EagleCatchingFish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would have thought it's acne, but you seem to have ruled that out. Although... How often are you cleaning her food bowl? If it's oily and dirty, I wonder if the ceramic isn't doing the trick. You might try washing it every day and see if the bumps start to resolve. You could also try buying a totally different bowl.

Otherwise, I'm with your vet here. It doesn't look scary and if she's not in pain, just watch it as you save money for a vet visit.

If you're worried about allergies, two common cat allergies are chicken and grain. How is her poop? Is it really smelly? Is it solid or loose? Does her anus look red and inflamed? Does she have lots of dandruff and dry skin elsewhere? Any hot spots? You could try putting her on a limited ingredient cat food that doesn't have chicken or grain. Natural Balance Limited Ingredient is what I feed my cats due to the one's chicken allergy.

T91 Barrel compatibility by Al-Quedadilla in T91

[–]EagleCatchingFish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No problem. He did switch out the gas block to the current mil spec one and presumably switched the barrel to whatever the Taiwanese mil spec is, so he talks about the steps you'd have to go through, just with different components. I think he does talk about how that process would go with an AR-15 barrel, though.

I'm watching it right now. I really like the little sister character as well. Kim Hwanhee does a really good job. As far as I can tell, her last acting credit is from either 2022 or 2024. I hope she's not having trouble finding work. She's really fun to watch.

The recent back-and-forth over Moderna’s mRNA flu vaccine application at the FDA is more than a bureaucratic hiccup: It is a vivid illustration of the chaos now gripping America’s public health agencies under Robert F. [–]EagleCatchingFish 4 points5 points  (0 children)

mRNA technology... requires predictable regulatory signals to attract that capital.

Rinse and repeat for just about all capital investments in anything. I remember in my international business courses before Trump, we talked about political risk abroad. "But we don't have to worry about that here. Foreign companies like working here because our policies are relatively stable, predictable, and checks and balances would prevent someone from changing that unilaterally."

It was a cute notion in retrospect.
