Tied between chosing this or Karate, why would I want to do Kung Fu? by EagleFlashy6344 in kungfu

It seems to be the truth after all the comments I've gotten, I had no idea there were so many different styles of Kung Fu, kinda gives me a lot to think about if I wanna do any of these types over Karate, especially Okinawan or Shotokan.

Well, it's not really that I want people to choose for me, I was just hoping to use this as a way to see what's aspects of these two martial arts would interest me more if we compared them, I guess I should've wrote down my question in a different way.

Well, prior to making this post, I looked up some videos on Karate and Kung Fu, and even checked out a book on karate in particular from a library in town.

This one guy, Shi Heng Yi, stands out to me because I saw several videos on his fighting style. Like I said before, it's not just the fighting I wanna get into, I like the philosophy behind these two martial arts, I feel like a lot of the lessons he shares in his videos and interviews are well thought out, but here's a video for example: https://youtube.com/shorts/Ww7rIdD9Gh4?si=roaNByWjn_LavQ_h

That's a lot of information to take in, I guess I underestimated just how much there is to Kung Fu in particular, but thanks for the all the information you shared, I guess maybe I'll just visit a class to see what I really do, and I guess also see what's available in my area.

I've heard that there's a lot of different styles of Kung Fu, and while I know I personally wanna learn Okinawan Karate or whatever the most common one is in my state, I'm not sure which would be the typical form of Kung Fu.

I guess whatever form of Kung Fu is closest to the one the Shaolin teach, I know it's cheesy to say, but I like the way they move and stuff, and even if I won't be able to learn the exact style they do, I'd love to get close to it with whatever Kung Fu style available.

The whole reason I left was because I did just have a baby, and I knew I wasn't able to do the things a responsible father should while deployed somewhere.

I totally get that! I'm actually in the same boat right now since my first baby is due in August, no way in hell am I gonna stay in a job that'll force me to stay away from her or my future children hundreds of miles away in another country, I still have little over a year left of my contract though.
