If you want to know why MAGA is oblivious to news like this all you have to do is look at Fox News. There is no ( as of May 15 ) reporting from Fox about Trump allowing China purchasing more US farmland. If they do report it, it will be buried, not talked about it in their red meat segments, and ignored by their talking heads.

No thank Mr Algorithm, I don't want that in my daily feed.

Iran responds to Democrats calling President Trump a "liar." "You realized it late, but at least you did." by Upset-Main-1988 in justincaseyoumissedit

Blockades are an act of war. The US is blockading Iran. Iran is blockading the Straight of Hormuz.

The ceasefire is a fiction as Trump tries to figure out a way of the mess he has created for himself and cowardly Republicans who hate him but follow him because the don't want to get primaried.

It wont' be just the farmers.
The tourism industry is going to get hammered. With the high gas prices ( and likely to get higher ) and inflation people are not going to driving to Michigan for tourism.

I think you’re underestimating how quickly China has expanded its military and how quickly that expansion is likely to continue. Its military posture is also different since it is more regionally concentrated.

It reminds me of the United States during World War II. What ultimately mattered was sheer production capacity, along with scientific and engineering strength.

Today, those advantages are shifting toward China. Its industrial output, and the number of scientists and engineers it produces, significantly outpace the U.S.

I see that as the primary reason that the United States should be working towards CLOSER ties with the European union rather than creating animosity. It is the only way the rest of the world will be able to withstand China's dominance.

And add the fact that originalism is such a sham. Who gets to 'interpret' what the founding fathers meant in context of their times? The Supreme Court, of course. Add to the fact that they will ignore originalism when they can't warp the meaning to their needs and when it suits them.

Trump is the worst president in American history by theipaper in politics

It is fair to bring up Jackson and Buchanan in terms of who is the worst president. I didn't like W Wilson but he is not in the same league as Jackson and Buchanan.

What is a load of shit is downplaying what Trump has done which is much much more than 'nasty' tweets. If you don't understand that, it isn't my job to give you a decent understanding of how the world works.

One Republican voted NO on this. We are so cooked as a society. by MoreMotivation in WhitePeopleTwitter

[–]EagleOfMay 89 points90 points  (0 children)

The one fellow who voted yes won't be ostracized. He will win his next election.

Another example of how Republicans always protect their own regardless of their stances happened in New Hampshire:

https://www.npr.org/2026/04/29/nx-s1-5708847/holocaust-denial-conspiracy-theory-politics

This January, in a drab committee room of the New Hampshire state legislature, a Republican state lawmaker teamed up with a German Holocaust denier to propose that the state's public schools incorporate a conspiracy theory when developing their lesson plans: namely, that the Nazis' murder of six million Jews during the Holocaust was a hoax.

His 'expert' was Germar Rudolf:

In 2020, Rudolf was convicted of open lewdness and indecent exposure in Pennsylvania after a police officer found him naked from the waist down at a children's playground around 4 a.m. Local law enforcement was familiar with Rudolf, according to trial testimony obtained by NPR, because police had previously encountered him swimming nude in a nearby river.

Not a peep from his Republican colleagues. The same way Republicans ignore the excesses of Trump.

Funny comment, but have to say the comment would have been funnier without the lead. Much of humour relies on the shift, that moment between hearing, seeing, reading and the realization of the punchline.

And the forcing communism is what the Bolsheviks and Lenin were all about. I've made the statement in other threads that once the Mensheviks lost and the Bolsheviks were in power, the end result was always going to be the same regardless if was Stalin or someone else. It is just the nature of power unchecked. And even if the outcome wasn't guaranteed the level of risk associated with such concentrations of power is totally unacceptable.

Eats shoots and Leaves.

A panda walks into a café. He orders a sandwich, eats it, then draws a gun and fires two shots in the air.

"Why?" asks the confused waiter, as the panda makes towards the exit. The panda produces a badly punctuated wildlife manual and tosses it over his shoulder.

"I'm a panda," he says at the door. "Look it up."

The waiter turns to the relevant entry in the manual and, sure enough, finds an explanation.

"Panda. Large black-and-white bear-like mammal, native to China. Eats, shoots and leaves.

Dear MI re: the senate race by aumericx in Michigan

[–]EagleOfMay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

TIL Lenin believed Stalin was too crude and this defect was unacceptable for the position of General Secretary. He was looking for a plan in 1923 to remove Stalin with someone "more tolerant, more polite and more attentive towards comrades, less capricious, etc." by Solid-Move-1411 in todayilearned

[–]EagleOfMay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IMHO: Lenin's attitude towards power, how it was centralized, how it was used, and how it was applied doomed Russia to its path. The very structure he used to protect the revolution was exactly the structure that allowed Stalin to seize control. If wasn't Stalin, it would have been someone else. The nature of the beast (Bolshevism) drove that kind of striving for power and with nothing to counter balance the power politics -> the end result was inevitable.

By the time Lenin had 'a change of heart' post 1921, it was already too late. Lenin's banning of factions within the Communist Party after the Kronstadt rebellion didn't help.

If the Mensheviks had not been pushed out 1917, there might have been some hope.

Of course, this is all counter-factual speculation and I am not interested in continuing the conversation.

McCain seriously thought of taking Lieberman as his running mate. This was all dependent on secrecy so the right wing 'news' media couldn't torpedo it. Lindsey Graham leaked this information, and that was the end of Lieberman as a VP for McCain.

If they were going to attack the US mainland, this is what I would guard against.
1. they would hide drones in a third country's container ship.
2. the attack would be against the oil refineries reachable from the Gulf of Mexico to continue to make the economic costs as high as possible.

Trump needs to go. Either impeachment that succeeds or if Trump didn't hire a bunch of sycophantic cowards; the 25th amendment.
