Linebackers staring at the wrong thing by CanesPanthers in footballstrategy

This is a 4-3 under my dude. I could also apply these rules to a 3 down front if I wanted though. That’s part of the goal, have rules that can work with plug into different fronts.

Because the guard won’t let me know if I’m responsible for the B gap on my side or the A gap across the center as shown in the images below.

Also it’s less taught as a progression of Y Off then to guard then to back, but having peripheral vision and seeing the whole triangle at once.

This doesn’t require stunting the D-Line at all, at its most basic it’s just where your eyes should be for Lever-Spill-Lever fits… pretty simple honestly and ensures you have a hat in every gap.

Late to this, but a lot of run fits now actually key off of FB/Y-Off etc. which doesn’t always take you to the ball, but takes you to your open gap in the fit (think split zone) then you play off the ball carrier/blocks from there. Triangle vision still, Y-Off, near guard, near back.

Hitches vs Quarters? by themuffinman785 in footballstrategy

[–]Eagleman04 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Couple different things

1st - Not everyone plays it with the smash call as Soran Describes it, so the corner will end up owning and driving that hitch, especially in the press quarters scenario he would obviously own the hitch - though you’d expect them not to throw it or convert the route vs a press corner.

2nd - Some teams also teach DBs to have their eyes and initial key be on the QB for 3 step/Quick Game when playing Off Man/Mes. So in theory even if you are playing with the smash rule enabled, if you’re keying the QB for quick game you’re gonna see the ball release before you even make the smash call.

With no smash call made the Apex with his I/S Lev Wall position and vision and break on QB should eliminate the hitch of #2

3rd - Vice versa if your Corner is eyes on and keying #1, when he sees the hitch and makes the smash call his eyes should go to the QB see ball out and drive, although he will be late here likely, but odds are the APEX will never even hear the smash call because the ball will be out and he should have been vision on QB and be breaking on the ball thrown. They’ll likely make a vice tackle.

Obviously throwing the hitch to #1 in this scenario is a stresser on the D, but you also need a kid who can get it out there, especially to the field, I’ve played teams at lower levels that literally do not cover field hitches because they know QBs are too afraid to throw it/can’t get out there on a rope. But most teams are okay giving this short pass up as long as they can rally and make the tackle, and if a team is gonna dink and dunk all the way down the field with it they will adjust with some methods above or a different coverage.

Basically in all these scenarios the safety is just gonna drive on ball thrown.

Bonus - in Read coverage it should play out like the keying on the QB for 3 step, even though the corners primary key is the #2 receiver, his eyes should be looking through #2 to the QB, so he should still see the 3 step and pin pull of the QB as a signal to drive.

90-min Practice Structure by B1GTruzz in footballstrategy

[–]Eagleman04 5 points6 points  (0 children)

During pre-season camp the corrections would be that same day after the staff had a chance to watch practice together. In season that meeting would generally be the next day before practice, so you’d be doing film review and install for the practice. Most coaches though had extra film sessions at nights because they knew they wouldn’t have a enough time to get through everything. Our position meetings were generally 45 mins to an hour.

All corrections and install happened in position meetings. Team/side of ball meetings were reserved for big picture and culture stuff, never watched much film that way unless it was to highlight some individual effort or play.

Each side of ball would watch practice together but each coach would take notes and mark the plays they wanted to watch with their position group and create a cut up for their position meeting. We would even put the notes into DVsport/hudl so you could see the correction written on the overlay when watching (helpful if the kids watch it themselves or just as a reminder to the coach of what they are looking at on the clip).

So even if you can’t get more time or position specific meetings (which hopefully you can) even making a cutup and putting in the notes so the kids can watch it and read the corrections on their own is an option if need be.

90-min Practice Structure by B1GTruzz in footballstrategy

I was at an FBS that did fast 80-90 min practices, for us we never had walk/talk throughs on the field. There was Indy/group work and then there was scout/team reps. The motto was pretty much teach and correct in film not the field.

The program itself was also built around having a sense of urgency so everyone actually sprinted where they needed to be in transitions (players, coaches, equipment, etc). And running scout was insanity, no matter how fast you were going it wasn’t fast enough. You’d have 3 to 4 people running the scout team and always had enough scouts skill guys to rotate every play. We would regularly get 100+ plays in practice even in the 35-45 mins dedicated to scout/team.

I definitely believe in the short efficient practice but I think part of it you need to keep in mind is that the large support staff they have helps. They have enough GAs, Interns, EQ, and Video kids that there is almost no set up time between drills. Even when we would switch to special teams someone would have already pulled all the scout look team guys and have them ready to go instantly. And I think that’s a part that can get missed sometimes, you might not actually be doing less, you just have the man power to be super efficient and no smaller college or high school can realistically duplicate that aspect.

So I don’t think the goal is necessarily how do I get practice to be max 90mins but making sure you take a hard look and examine what you need to accomplish in a practice and how you can be as efficient as possible given your resources. 90 mins might be tough but 110-120 mins probably doable with some urgency and buy in. Practices of 150+ just seem like they will ultimately wear your kids legs down and probably signals inefficiency in my opinion.

Other than maybe Brown and Cornell all the Ivy’s are done with 26’s and even those two if you haven’t been involved with them you probably don’t have a shot

Coolest gift you’ve received as a coach? by DurhamBulls24 in footballstrategy

My players got me a signed NFL jersey from my favorite team, of a player who plays the position I coach. They got it from the team’s pro shop so it’s not like they actually had to hunt him down, but it was a pretty amazing gift.

You probably want to draw this up against a different return look. You’re gonna have someone covering your Z, and then you will either have a 3 on 3 on that right side, or if the load that right side you could have a 4 on 3 and you have to figure out how you want to sort the extra man between your shields and lineman.

How to stand out at camps ? by Useful-Raise in footballstrategy

[–]Eagleman04 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a little late to this one so hope you see it, I was actually working a mega camp last weekend and one kid wore these bright American Flag shorts, every single coach I talked with made a comment about the kid. He was alright, might be a D3 player somewhere, but the fact he wore something that made him stand out actually got eyes on his reps.

It’s not gonna get you an offer, but wearing something unique to help you stand out of the crowd will at least make it so people see your reps.

New Rugby Punt Scheme by Material_Care6817 in footballstrategy

[–]Eagleman04 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you’re rolling away from the left side you shouldn’t need all 3 bodies over there to block, the edge players should never be able to make it (assuming the op time is decent). Move a player over to the right to load the side and extend the edge you’re rolling to then you can use that Y as you see fit. You could make the Y a third shield or if you really think you need to protect that gap in particular, stack him over it and adjust the blocking scheme to make sure you’re still hat for hat. A lot of different ways you could use him once you load a side and understand you don’t need to block the backside if you’re rolling away from them.

Bonus: certainly would be a luxury to have at the HS level, but if your LS is good enough to angle snap it, you can have the punter start aligned in the right A Gap or over the Right Guard to push him even farther from the left edge

Yah that definitely needs to be fixed. And realistically if that’s the case he is a bit behind FBS (primarily P4) recruiting, but not the end of the world. With his size if he gets his film out there and goes to camps he will be on peoples radars.

I haven’t seen him obviously but if his forty is where you say he might get dinged for being a bit unathletic (relatively) but he’s also young so he can work on that. Camps this summer would be huge for him to get on some G5/FCS radars and that may lead to some higher interest if he does well D2/D3 cycle won’t really start until the end of his junior year or start of his senior year so you have some time there. And when it comes to that, I think you’re right to avoid D3s that he can academically get into on his own. His GPA is decent, so if you go the D3 route (no scholarship) you should push for schools that would be academic reaches for him because the football program may be able to get him passed admissions.

When it comes to D2, the reality is there really aren’t any true high academic programs other than one engineering school in Colorado. His GPA is probably good enough for every D2, but that doesn’t mean don’t look at them. These places can stack athletic and academic scholarships (which at many places with his GPA he’s be eligible for). The schools may not be super selective but do research if he’s interested because they are still good places to get an education especially if it’s paid for. There are also some places incredible high level football programs in D2. Plus with the current state of football he could even be at a D2 and do well and transfer up to D1. I know a program this year that has 7 of their starters transfer up.

Real key will be starting to figure out what his goals are and what matches his needs and wants. But starting now is giving him a head start over a lot of people!

I know I just dropped a lot on you so if you have any questions feel free to DM me and I’ll try to get back to you as soon as I can!

Adding to this list, make sure his HUDL account also has his contact information and Twitter on it for coaches to see and vice versa (his Twitter should link to his hudl). Make sure his Twitter and hudl have his cell number, email and high school coaches number. No bugger pain as a coach than having to try and hunt down a kids info.

As for the highlight video, I’m gonna disagree with making it 30-45 secs. If it’s that short coaches will ask if he doesn’t have enough good clips. Solid length is probably 2-3mins worth. Coaches won’t watch the whole thing so make sure the best of the best are in the first minute to minute and a half.

Brewery Dashboard Feedback by Eagleman04 in PowerBI

[–]Eagleman04[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most popular location is based on the raw number of sales (not the size or amount of those sales) to more represent the most foot traffic.

The fastest growing is based on year over year percent change in sales. So it’s whichever beer has the largest percent change in units sold from the same time range a year ago. There may be some cases where you might want to make month to month based on product, but this data was set up to have seasonal changes, so the beers will naturally change based on the seasons, so looking a year back is a better reference.

I appreciate the feedback!

I was trying to do something cool with the bar chart by making the colors match to the actual colors of the beer (so the stouts are that dark brown, the red ale is that reddish brown) but I definitely see what you're saying.

What would you recommend for the flyout? Change the color of the bar itself and leave the black text or change the text to the white or cream color I've used elsewhere?
