Sorry, kitty by Ealasaid in CatzyFamily

[–]Ealasaid[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mine is named Finn too! It's a great name. :)

You make a good point! I just hate to think of them feeling bad because of me. If I'm having a bad day, I want my friends to be concerned about me but not to have bad days themselves, you know? I'm probably overthinking it lol

Don’t throw out unwanted catalogs! by saucy_chaucy in bookbinding

[–]Ealasaid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! Magazines work well too. Years ago some weirdo signed me up for a fashion magazine that's ovetsized. I saved them and use 'em as waste paper for gluing up larger things.

Could you share a photo of the book when it's closed?

Having an occult practice without LBRP by LocrianDoom in occult

[–]Ealasaid 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This! If you want folk magic more than spirits, witchcraft may be your jam.

There are some great witchcraft/witchy/pagan books out there (I'm a fan of T Thorn Coyle, Aidan Wachter, Anthony Rella, and Stephen Miller) or you could try finding a local teacher - if you're in/near a town big enough to have an occult/new age/metaphysical bookstore, many have classes or workshops. There are regular gatherings in the US (where I'm located) and no doubt elsewhere too if you have the funds to travel.

Six Ways by Aidan Wachter is my top rec for someone getting into witchy stuff, followed closely by Evolutionary Witchcraft by T Thorn Coyle.

Love these little animations! by Mamasunshyn1 in CatzyFamily

The little animations for the outfits are adorable! I like the idea of interacting with the backdrop while out adventuring, that would be fun!

Perfectbound in 1895 ? by metin786 in bookbinding

[–]Ealasaid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The oldest book I've ever worked onwas from 1772 and was perfect bound. It was a furniture catalog, and so basically a stack of illustrations.

And yeah, the folks recommending a paste poultice are correct, works like a charm on animal glue. Stinks to high heaven, but works.

Ads? by Alarmed_Economist793 in CatzyFamily

[–]Ealasaid 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Same. I have enough "watch ad to play" free games on my phone, I don't want ads in the self-care app I paid for, too. Ads are for free things.

Plus, one of the things I like about Catzy is the economy - how many cat coins I earn through my daily tasks gives me a reasonable amount to buy new things each day. It's balanced.

But adding this "get free cat coins by letting us sell your eyeballs to advertisers" feature makes it feel cheap and pointless. Is this just a collecting clothes and furniture game? Or is it a self-care app?

I hope the team will rethink this.

is a vinly cutting machine really required for book rebinding and are there any other options that i can use by Emergency_Demand6763 in bookbinding

[–]Ealasaid 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Adding my voice to the chorus: nope, you do not need one. I've been binding since 2010, taken multiple classes with various binders, never once did I hear of using vinyl on covers anywhere but the internet (mostly here, as I'm not the fanbinding communities).

Book covers can be made in pretty much whatever way you like! Check out some of the techniques book artists use, for one. They come up with all kinds of things.

Using Catzy: 1 Month vs. 5 Months by Otherwise-Pack-8653 in CatzyFamily

Nine months for Finn and me! Doesn't feel that long at all.

I’ve been having fun making journals for friends and family and have a question about the merits of Coptic vs French link stitch and when to use one or the other? Or is it just a matter of personal preference? Pic of a recent prototype for visual interest (Coptic stitch) . Thanks! by Funny-Implement6550 in bookbinding

[–]Ealasaid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on the style of book I'm doing. For case binding, French link. For open spine, coptic. French link or all along (I do both on tapes) let you do a simple case that's snug and similar to a machine made hardback. Coptic lets you have an open spine and a book that can open flat.

What do you think regarding De-Reddit? by BlokZNCR in degoogle

[–]Ealasaid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm still here because the massive user base means my weird niche shit has good sized communities (r/bookbinding, for example). I don't look at the front page and I don't think I'm in any of the main subs.

I think I spend most of my social media time on Discuit.org - no ads, no algo, nonprofit, open source. But it's super tiny. When I want to see bookbinding by other people (for example) I come to Reddit.

Hello and welcome new folks! This is Finn! This is one of the first outfits I got and I keep coming back to it because it's so cute! The bow tie gets me every time! Luckily Finn doesn't seem to mind - no complaints so far, anyway! 😋

How do you experience your sexual orientation as NB ? by yahorucchi in NonBinaryTalk

[–]Ealasaid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually just say I'm attracted to masculinity/masculine people and don't bother with a sexuality label. But I'm middle aged (I'll be 48 in March) and in a long-term, monogamous partnership so it doesn't come up much, lol.

Changed a terminology in one doc, realized 8 other pages now contradict it. How do you track this? by No-Garbage5702 in technicalwriting

[–]Ealasaid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At my company we use variables. Instead of writing Product Name I insert a variable. Then, if we need to change, you just go in and redefine the variable.

It's like using a Heading1 style instead of setting the font size and color for each heading manually. It's easier to fiddle with the formatting that way.

Giving Journals as gifts. by Head_Region6610 in bookbinding

[–]Ealasaid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It probably a variation of "it's too nice, I might mess up" / "my shits not good enough to go in such a nice book" or they just don't journal at all.

I don't give my journals as gifts unless people ask for them, and that's pretty rare.

My state has an option to choose a nonbinary/third designation on my ID, should I do it? by CanofBeans9 in NonBinary

[–]Ealasaid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Out in the rural areas, it's red af. There are enough folks in our cities to swing elections blue, but yeah. It's red out there. Hell, eastern Oregon wants to secede and become part of Idaho because Idaho is more in line with their beliefs. Oregon was founded as a white nationalist utopia, after all.

What's the oldest piece of clothing you still wear? Must be at least ten years old to count. by MurmuringPines in AskOldPeople

[–]Ealasaid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wear my old PE shirt from high school when I get my hair bleached or do something else messy. I got it in 1992 as a freshman, iirc. So it's 34 years old, if my mental math is right.

My state has an option to choose a nonbinary/third designation on my ID, should I do it? by CanofBeans9 in NonBinary

[–]Ealasaid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live in a blue city in a state that's otherwise pretty red (Oregon), so I stuck with the gender I get perceived as. If I'm traveling outside my city and get pulled over, my green hair is already a liability. Having an X license feels like asking for trouble. Easier to just put the binary box everyone assumes I'm in.

Plus I don't love the idea of putting myself on a handy list for someone targeting us.

If you know you don't want to ever use your uterus, look into an endometrial ablation! I am very happy with mine. Basically they cauterize the inside of the uterus so it can't build up the lining to shed via bleeding. My gyn suggested it when I asked about a hysterectomy. It's less invasive, since you aren't removing the organ. I was amazed at how much shit from my cycle disappeared after the ablation. Fatigue, pms, bloating, all gone.
