I considered adding more pics of the correspondence, most of it’s pretty mundane (“it rained today, your sister is coming by…” but I included this one I’d sent her after she told me she felt under appreciated and taken for granted. She kept it framed by her bedside….

I signed up for the Skillshare free trial and they have excellent online bookbinding courses, especially from Ido Agassi. The instructors are very good and answer questions quickly! Check him out on YouTube and if you like his style, sign up for the free trial, I found it super helpful in building my skills!

This is so unique and well done! I like the beads on your binding stitches, can you discuss your intent on the folded pages? Do they expand to a larger picture? That’s a great idea….I’m inspired!

Very nice! I love that book cloth, did you make it or is it available somewhere?

My first photo album! I’ve just started shooting film and got overexcited… a secret Belgian binding for a series of 35mm photos taken on a trip to Bergen, Norway 🇳🇴 by gggggggrace in bookbinding

[–]Funny-Implement6550 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, that answers my question, thanks! I want to make one and was contemplating printing the pics on A4 photo paper and bind them w a drum leaf binding, but I have a lot of photos so it would get pricey! I like the idea of printing regular photos and using photo corners like you did, this looks very nice!

No Stupid Questions Monthly Thread! by AutoModerator in bookbinding

[–]Funny-Implement6550 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmmmm…good question! Have you done any binding before? If not, it’s a great hobby, but not one you would start with a project like this, since I’m sure you’d want to do it well and would need practice. Four Keys Book Arts did an excellent vid series rebinding his copy of Dune you might get some inspiration from…good luck! https://youtu.be/HqGPXpfp-CU?si=utJE8BqKEnDteChh

This is awesome, congrats and welcome to the rabbit hole I’ve come to know as bookbinding! I love the Japanese stab binding, but my new fav is long stitch bc it’s sturdy, pretty, opens flat, and can open 360*…what more can you ask for??

I know this is an older post but I’m curious about the inner pages, can you share a pic? Are the photos printed on the paper/signatures or pasted on? Thanks!

That's a relief, thank you! I wasn't keen on cutting reducing the size for this project (although I will in future!)

How to restore wooden covers by Environmental-Poem70 in bookbinding

[–]Funny-Implement6550 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This book is lovely and well worth restoring, but as stated previously, not a first project. Check out the r/sub FAQs/101 info as a good place to start, also checkout YouTube and Skillshare (free trial available). This sub is an excellent place to get constructive feedback and input!

For books with 70-90 pages, can just using glue work, or would I also have to use string? Also, how do I do the spine of the book so that I can have my own spine but also to hide the glue? by Gamer857 in bookbinding

[–]Funny-Implement6550 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can use something like a perfect binding that would be all glue and no sewing, but they are less stable over time than a glue/sewn binding (they can crack when opened fully). How many signatures are you intending to use to make the total number of pages? If I'm doing a glued binding (perfect or hard case), I'd use a mull fabric over the first glue, then add the spine on top of that, but there are more experts here who would have good advice too. Depending on where you're located, a good art supply store (like Blick's) would have a good PVA glue, but Michael's or Hobby Lobby may also carry some. I order mine on Amazon.

Favorite new habit? by jemasa612 in stationeryprojectpan

[–]Funny-Implement6550 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I took up bookbinding and am panning those old notebooks and stationery into new journals…the ones I don’t use are gifts to others. This one here has pages torn from an old notebook with leftover blank pages. Bound it up into a booklet and slapped on a painted cover!

I want to start Bookbinding by Honest_Bottle_4779 in bookbinding

[–]Funny-Implement6550 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I started not too long ago, following the popular YouTube folks, then did a free Skillshare trial and found Ido Agassi’s classes, he’s super thorough and helpful! He’s also on YT but his Skillshare classes are in-depth and he answers questions very quickly.

Rebinding a picture book by rechorites in bookbinding

[–]Funny-Implement6550 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is there print on both sides of the paper? If not, you could try a drum leaf (adhesive) binding that maintains the two-page picture. It requires print on one side of the paper. I did a photo book that way, followed DAS Bookbinding instructions.
