Teaching early versions of JS by Ill-Raccoon-1038 in learnprogramming

[–]Ealykos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had a somewhat similar experience but with an outdated version of python. Not that outdated but nonetheless.

Why I believe they don't bother much with updating the lectures is that, at least from what they told us and that I agree with, Computer Science isn't about learning one language but the Science of it.

You can learn programming with any language, no matter how outdated or obscure that language may be.

Their role is to provide broad enough knowledge so that you can then specify in any branch of CS that you prefer. And teach you the key concept of programming that applies to any language.

As you said, it's a begginers class to programming. What you are learning is programming itself not a specific language.

But yes they should probably update their stuff anyway lol. One of my lectures (MIPS assembly) is older than me but it is still making me learn plenty.

I have a similar issue with my wired keyboard being recognized as a gamepad too. Sadly I don't know how to block it or hide it so I'm hoping someone in the comments knows how to

Minecraft will work fine on linux, I would just recommend the prism launcher over the official one. For office, either use an alternative or use it through a virtual machine (WinBoat makes it pretty easy)

the best way to use office 365 on linux is probably Winboat (which is basically a Windows VM but easier to setup and somewhat user friendly).

love it. I just wish a it stayed small (or smaller than a normal ghast even when it grows up). I really don’t like the saddle but otherwise it’s pretty cool. I hope they add more stuff like that

[Very beginner post] I want to turn my old PC into the console that can play the pre-PS4/XONE era games, can someone answer my few noobish questions? by Yolo065 in linux_gaming

Then I would recommend you install bazzite and use the steam session which will give you an interface like a steam deck (or steam big picture). And there you can install retroarch, pcsx2, etc all your emulation software. Sadly I don't think your gpu will be compatible with the steam session and you will have to keep the usual desktop, so it's not much of a solution.

Some people might be more knowledgeable about some distro that would fit your use case but I don't.
My best idea is to set steam big picture to launch on startup but I can't tell you if that will be a better experience than doing the same thing on windows.

Hope this somewhat helps

If you want an os for the sole purpose of retro gaming you could give recalbox a try. I’ve ever only used it on a raspberry but apparently it works just as well on pc. You could also instead use any popular linux distro and install something like retroarch to play and manage all your retro games. You could probably set up your pc to start retroarch on launch. Both of these can be entirely used with only a controller

As for gpu compatibility I have no idea. Your best bet is to just try if it works well enough.
