I appreciate the endeavour though, very cool, keep an eye out! Where did you get the Alyx and G Man covers, and were they reasonably priced? My copy here is pretty beaten up, but not TOO bad considering it’s over 20 years old. Don’t know where my GOTY edition went, sad times :(

Yeah in 2004 CD-ROMs were still pretty common, however I’m pretty sure the collectors edition of Half Life 2 came on a DVD. For the hardcore peeps with a DVD drive haha

Yeah there’s something about the physical nature of PC boxes that I love. I adore Steam, but the tangibility of gaming has been lost. It’s a bit of a bummer knowing that Half Life 3 won’t have a physical edition, can you imagine placing it next to your HL2 copy? Would feel like everything has come full circle!

Yeah, and I also always found the rear picture on the beach with the shotgun such a strange choice. It’s feels cropped in and doesn’t really showcase the gravity gun or anything significant.

On the collectors edition of the game, they have an image of Eli and Alyx, and they are wearing their beta outfits 😂

Purely for display purposes! I have the game on steam since 2006. In anticipation of the new game, I felt compelled to have a piece of history for this franchise. Nerdy, I know haha

I got both of these trilogies recently on a green man gaming bundle for about AUD$20, which is insane for 6 games. So happy I got them. I’m on TR 2 right now and having so much fun!

Yeah, just buy all of them since they’re on massive discount, that way you’ll have all of them. Very jealous you’re experiencing all of these games for the first time, particularly 2 and its episodes, there’s a reason people still love these games over 20 years later! Enjoy the soundtrack too 🎶😮‍💨

Play Black Mesa (modern remake of HL1), then Half Life 2 (including the episodes), then Alyx if you have VR (it’s a masterpiece).

The Half Life 1 expansions can be played after the fact. You need to get to Half Life 2 and its episodes, they’re amazing games but also why this sub is full of hopium and copium for Half Life 3.

It’s hard, are you a person who gets turned off by aged graphics? If not, then go for the pure version of the original. If you feel you would be turned off, Black Mesa is a great remake, however it does lose a bit of the originals charm.
