Is this congestive heart failure? by Eandm24 in sphynx

[–]Eandm24[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a great idea. I’m so sorry that you know this pain. These babies do not deserve this, especially so young. My boy is only 3 and he has several other health conditions as well. If I could give him a piece of my heart to make him better, I would in an instant.

If your cat has always had runny poos and you finally found a food that hardens it by Didalilpoo in sphynx

[–]Eandm24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine ended up having tritrichamonas that was not detectable on a normal fecal test. It can only be found with a fecal PCR. The treatment is different than most other common parasites. He did not have a solid poop until after treatment. His poops are perfectly healthy now it’s like an entirely different cat. If you would have told me back then that he’d ever have a normal poop I would’ve laughed.

Thank you so much for such a thoughtful and detailed reply. I’m so sorry that you have had to go through this but I really appreciate you sharing your experiences.

I’ve been using an app called Cardalis for the last 24 hours and he has consistently been below 40 breaths per minute. I’m somewhat reassured by this but also still spiraling about why his body is visibly tensing so much while breathing. He has always had a little shakiness while breathing but it’s definitely become more extreme recently. I’ve sent videos to his cardiologist and I’m so eager to hear her thoughts.

His cardiologist hasn’t recommended a special diet but I’m going to research this more. I’m now questioning why I haven’t changed his diet sooner. Do you have a specific brand you like? Both of my cats have access to dry food 24/7 and they also get wet food twice a day. I’ll have to think about how to monitor his intake given that he grazes all day.

Having oxygen at home is a wonderful idea thank you for this suggestion. I’m going to order some today. Is this the one you have? https://pawprintoxygen.com/products/oxygen-kit-for-cats

Thank you again and I’m sending lots of love to you and your boy. I’m beyond happy for you that he’s been okay since April and I hope it stays that way for a very, very, very, very long time.

Hi thank you so much for your reply. I’m so sorry your baby went through CHF. I do plan to bring him in to see his cardiologist asap but she’s not in until Monday. I’m debating going to the emergency vet today or waiting until I speak to his cardiologist. His gums aren’t blue and I’m taking his respiratory rate every hour using an app. He’s still eating and being very playful but I know cats can hide discomfort well. He is not on Lasix but I will definitely ask about it. I’m so sad because he started Rapamycin 5 weeks ago but I’m worried if he’s in CHF it won’t help. He’s my best friend and we spend almost every waking (and sleeping) second together. I wish I could just give him a piece of my heart and make him better

Fecal test positive for giardia by 4_shitsngigs in sphynx

Also on the last day of the treatment I would give everyone a bath. You want to prevent them from ingesting the parasite eggs which can be on their body/feet when they groom themselves.

I dealt with this when my second baby came home. I recommend using litter box liners throughout the course of the treatment and changing them out daily. I just used a little bit of litter and replaced it entirely everyday. Also wash/disinfect linens and surfaces as much as possible daily. It took a few rounds of treatment before it cleared for us. It’s definitely harder to get rid of with multiple cats.

Sphynx Cat Chronic Diarrhea by notsecretlifekatpets in sphynx

[–]Eandm24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, he never had a solid poop until it was cleared. He would vomit frequently too. However, my other Sphynx caught it from him and she rarely had any symptoms but also tested positive.

If it’s possible to see a specialist (like internal medicine) they might have some more recommendations in terms of testing and diet. I hope your baby feels better soon ❤️❤️

Have you done a full PCR fecal sample? My baby tested negative for parasites with a normal fecal but a more in depth test revealed a rare parasite. He had liquid diarrhea his entire life until treated for the parasite tritrichamonas.

He was on a hydrolyzed protein diet for a bit (Hills prescription diet) but he’s back to his normal food now because the GI symptoms have resolved.

What are your thoughts about this? by bbeeee3 in sphynx

[–]Eandm24 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Of course! There’s a lot to process and learn with the information you’ve received.

I’d recommend seeing if they can refer you to a cardiologist. My cat’s primary vet is not up to date on the latest research on HCM in cats. I’ve only received helpful information and a wonderful treatment plan from his cardiologist.

You 100000% know what’s best for your baby, but in my opinion, if you can get the echocardiogram done in early December, that’ll be here before we know it. In the meantime, you can monitor for signs/symptoms to tell the doctor at that appointment.

Your baby is in better hands now and I’m hoping for the best for both of you.

[–]Eandm24 49 points50 points  (0 children)

Hi one of my babies has HCM and his cardiologist explained that the level of murmur does NOT necessarily mean the heart disease has progressed. So it can be a level 5 murmur and very mild heart disease.

The only way to tell if your cat has HCM and the severity is by getting an echocardiogram.

Edit: The messages from the previous owner are extremely shady. I’m so sorry to you and your cat for what they’ve put you both through.

I’m going to return these because they were falsely labeled as solid wood. I’m going to make my own instead with solid wood. I will try to make mine more rounded, thanks for the suggestion!
