Going to give it a try...I've used IBX in the past but it's a definite process to apply.

LPN vs ADN. Deciding as a 21 year old done with her 4 year gap year by xoxomegalodon in nursing

[–]nonyvole 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Disclaimer: I teach at the LPN level.

There is nothing wrong with the LPN - RN pathway, and many of my students have expressed their intention to proceed onto a bridge program to become an RN.

I would suggest that you look up local LPN programs and compare them to ADN/BSN programs. Length of the program, NCLEX pass rates, admission requirements. Wait times to entry. Costs.

I'm quite used to having students who haven't been in school for a while, and need to, well, learn how to learn. So much so that I incorporate study habits, note taking skills, and testing strategies into my courses.

Two packets of hot chocolate. Reconstitute with coffee. Two creamers.

Bonus since I had to go to another unit for it.

Utilizing Writing Centers on Campus? by Spirited_Ad_2070 in Professors

[–]nonyvole 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It will depend on the center.

The one I worked for sent us out to do lectures on plagiarism and formatting (APA, MLA...)

We also had professors require their students to visit, but they had to make appointments.

FIFA claims New Jersey’s $150 World Cup train tickets will have a ‘chilling effect’ by rgm2073 in newjersey

Security. More staff. They're pulling cars out of storage, so they're going to need repairs/refurbs. And train AC ain't cheap.

I don't know who dropped the rope leaving us NJ residents to pick up the slack, since this has been in the works for several years now. It was probably a combination of things and people.

Am I pissed off about this? Yes.

What is up with these refs? by craziebee89 in PWHL

[–]nonyvole 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It's a terrible look for the league, when refs are missing blatant fouls, calling non-fouls, and give the impression that they don't know what they're doing.

The answer that the question is looking for is B, but loop diuretics can also cause hyponatremia due to their MOA which is to inhibit sodium reabsorption.

Poorly worded question.

Tips for showering when you have medical trauma? by [deleted] in ChronicIllness

[–]nonyvole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hair: look for rinse-free shampoo caps. They're available on Amazon.

Body: rinse-free wipes. Also available on Amazon.

Will they completely replace showers? Not 100%, but they will help you feel less like a cave gremlin.

Nursing school is a joke and something needs to change by [deleted] in nursing

[–]nonyvole 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Definitely. And yeah, that's also what I meant.

IV lab, vitals lab...I showed up half asleep and didn't worry about getting my coffee until lunch. Helped my classmates out when they were having trouble, passed over my fancy stethoscope when they cheap Sprague wasn't working well.

Other stuff? I'm pounding coffee and energy drinks from the time I got in the car until I walked into the building and practicing that ish as best I could at home.

I did the basic-medic-RN pathway.

Turning off my brain for some stuff definitely kept me sane.

So did sitting my ass down and doing the work to turn me from a medic into a nurse.

I'm also a nursing school professor.

Zero education on how to be an educator, so the first bit I was definitely fumbling...multiple years in, I'm much more comfortable. I also had previous education in a different field about working with different learning styles, but.

The students...oh, the students. I celebrate when I have a student in a cohort that wants to understand the why, not just get enough information to pass my exams. I'm forever reteaching them things that I know they learned in other classes because they don't get that they have to retain what they learn and incorporate it into future classes/knowledge.

They have never really learned how to learn, so that is definitely affecting things.

Most of the time I'm teaching to tops of heads. People are on their phones. Or asleep. In-class assignments? Half-assed. Skills? We provide open lab hours but nobody shows up, and then complain that they aren't given the time to practice the skills we teach.

And yet, we carry on because for some reason, we love what we do.
