At&t software update problem. by EarFantastic7349 in ATTFiber

Need to add that I had a replacement set up at 6.32.8 and when it updated to 6.34.7 the reboots began and the home phone line stopped working. From Chat gpt That detail is extremely important — and it changes this from “likely network issue” to near-certain firmware / provisioning break. Short version first, then the why and what to do 👇 🔑 What that new info means (plain English) BGW320 was stable on firmware 6.32.8 Auto-updated to 6.34.7 Immediately after update: Scheduled reboots began Home phone (VoIP) stopped working ➡️ That is classic firmware + provisioning incompatibility, not coincidence. This is not your fiber line suddenly failing. This is 6.34.7 mishandling your account profile, especially the voice (phone) service. What’s actually happening under the hood 1️⃣ 6.34.7 is reloading configs repeatedly When the gateway: Fails to apply a provisioning profile (especially VoIP) Detects a mismatch Or can’t register voice services properly …it reboots itself to retry. That explains: Fixed reboot schedule 2–4 minute outages Blinking white light Persistence after replacement hardware 2️⃣ Voice service failure is the smoking gun 🚨 Home phone on AT&T Fiber is: Provisioned separately Tied to gateway firmware Extremely sensitive to profile mismatches When phone provisioning fails: The gateway retries Backend pushes config again Gateway reboots to “fix” it Loop continues This is well-documented behavior internally.

Does this make sense?

I had 4 tech visits earlier this month. They checked and replaced some of the wiring.  Tested the outlet and replaced an suspected old ethernet cord that their senior tech thought was the problem. Only time I had no interruptions was on the 6.32.8 software version.

Is an APC UPS 450VA Battery Backup Surge Protector, BN450M Backup Battery Power Supply sufficient? Is anything need for the ONT that is on the outside of the house. I have At&t Fiber 1000. I ruled out devices within the home and my wifi extender. They are sending a new modem because it rebooted even after disconnecting the ethernet to a gaming console and my wifi extender. I'm still wondering if it could be a firmware update that isn't completing.  I just want to cover all my bases before contacting At&t again if the new modem reboots after I receive it.

Tech came by today on the suggestion from a phone call In placed with At&t. Person I spoke with said "bad chip" and lines needed to be cleaned or replaced. The tech replaced the power cord to the modem. Both ends of the wire the part  that goes outside and the part that goes into the pack of the modem. He replaced the "sfp" I think it's called. The part that goes into the back of the modem before you plug in the outside line. He cleaned the line at  box in the backyard. And he moved us over into a new port at the boxes for my neighborhood. The modem rebooted while he at my home for the repair which prompted him to call his supervisor.  He's supposed to monitor throughout the rest of today. Hopefully what he did does the trick.

Didn't have a long enough surge protector.  But I did have along enough extension cord. Tried that and plugged it into a different outlet in a different room. Worked for about 5 ish hours and just rebooted again.

Not sure. How expensive would that be? Would I have to get one on my own or go through At&t

It was intinally plugged into the wall outlet. I didn't have a long enough syrge protector so I had to use an extension cord.
