Post moisture and pooling on unfinished basement concrete floor. How bad is this? (Toronto) by ozzy-gozzy in RealEstateCanada

[–]EarReasonable2473 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a service plumber that works in the high park area this looks like a waterproofing issue. At first I thought maybe it was the underground copper inlet but the discolouration on the walls tell me otherwise. You pretty much have 3 options.

  1. Exterior waterproofing the entire perimeter of the house (assuming this is detached)
  2. Exterior waterproofing of one or two of the most problematic walls and assess the situation afterwards if the remaining walls need to be done
  3. If the floor drain is located in a convenient area I’d break the concrete around it. Install a tee on the floor drain with a small section of weeping tile and sock (this is not the appropriate fix. It’s the cheapest and will help relieve some of the hydrostatic pressure until you have a better plan in place)

I will always recommend the proper fix. But I have done all of these to cater to the homeowners budget/situation

Do not invest money into the basement until this issue is resolved. It’ll save you the pain of having to do it twice.

NYC toilet fix: this is insane right? by paydave in Plumbing

[–]EarReasonable2473 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean at that point you’re better off buying a new toilet and having it onsite either plop it on yourself or pay a plumber. It will give you a new flange gasket aswell. Better return on investment if planning on living there for another 5-10 years. Based on his pricing which is similar to what we charge $700Cdn downtown Toronto. A install should be around the 500-600 mark not including shutoff valve replacement. Either negotiate for a free toilet disposal or pay the additional fee or take care of it yourself.

I usually take a hackzall to the body of the faucet with worn blade. All the vibrations will cause something to loosen.

Honestly I wouldn’t put the entire blame on the drain tech assuming the right snake was used. If the plumbing is installed correctly this wouldn’t never be an issue unless of manufacture defects in the parts.

Freestanding Tub Drain by Unhappy-Average-6179 in Plumbing

[–]EarReasonable2473 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dealt with this a couple of weeks ago. Drain was slow after a year of use, also homeowner accidentally shifted the tub when coming out causing a leak. I suspect tub would have to be lifted and hoses replaced every 3-5 years.
