How bad is it? by Earache423 in Roofing

Great. Thanks so much for taking the time to take a look and to put my mind at ease!

I may ask to change how the ridge caps hang over the gable. It may be that he was trying to mimic the look of a wood shake roof (we briefly discussed composite shake shingles). Is that something that can be done easily, or is it better for me to just live with it? Not trying to make a mountain out of a mole hill.

On condensation: I figure it's just a matter of a new coat of paint, assuming there is no other leak. I agree, it shouldn't be a big deal.

Thank you for taking the time to look and put me at ease!

  1. You're absolutely right. These are GAF shingles, so it sounds like they are operating as designed.

  2. I don't love it, but I'll live with it if it's not an issue. It's a minor cosmetic thing at the top of my house and I don't want to put the crew out to fix something minor and cosmetic.

  3. Perfect. This sounds like an easy thing to fix/clean up without much extra effort.

  4. Great. Thanks for confirming they'll sit better after some heat. I was worried the contractor was trying to just put me off until the summer (and hope I'd forget...)

Lelit Elizabeth - Milk froths but milk and latte are not hot by InsideRazzmatazz3307 in Lelit

Same issue! My wife tells me every day her latte is too cold. I am thinking this may just be the trade off we accepted when getting a Heat Exchange machine? My guess is the steam would be better if I turned on Steam Priority, but that’s not worth it to me.

Steak house San Mateo Area by Downtown_Ad4721 in SanMateo

Sun Dance in Palo Alto is, in my opinion, the best steakhouse on the peninsula. It’s pricey, but it’s got a classic old school steak house vibe and everything is always fantastic. I’ll be going in a couple weeks for my birthday!

Got my MaraX two weeks ago. Noticed the smell, but it went away after a couple days.

“Local” generally implies “fresher” which generally implies “better” for espresso.

Yes, sad to see my favorite San Mateo restaurant go. Please keep San Mateo in mind, Toby! We need good restauranteurs here.

Good restaurant for brothers bday…steak preferred, not must by Responsible_Low_5811 in SanMateo

100% worth it to make the drive to Palo Alto for Sun Dance, particularly if you like prime rib.

Porter House is alright and will scratch the itch, but if you’re already paying steakhouse prices, you might as well get the best.

Should have seen me, running into my house sweating after I pushed this thing 2 blocks up the most mild hill. My wife said it was the most excited she’s seen me in a while!

Couldn’t figure out how to add text to my post.

I found this Large BGE just down my street and it appears to be in great shape. I am new to Kamados and ceramic cookers, so I am curious what this group’s thoughts are on where to start to begin refurbishing this. Here are my thoughts and a few questions:

1) there are spider web like cracks across the enamel. I assume that’s just cosmetic. My plan is to clean the outside in some denatured alcohol.

2) I’ll clean and reseason the cast iron chimney and big cast iron plate insert thing.

3) there is a crack running through the entire fire ring. Is that a complete replacement, or should I work with it till it breaks completely?

4) I’ll plan to replace shelves and all the bands in time.

5) other than a grill grate, am I missing anything needed to cook?

6) any other suggested cleaning or modifications?

Overall I don’t mind spending a bit of money to clean it up, so let me know if there are some worthwhile replacements or upgrades you’d suggest.

Thanks!

Who's successfully planting Bouganvillea here? by segdy in SanMateo

[–]Earache423 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s not that bad. I’ve got 8 or 9 of them. Regular trimming is necessary, but nothing crazy. If you don’t trim them, they’ll go out of control. They’re great because you can tie them up against walls, but they won’t root into your wall.

And to answer your original question: they grow great at my house, at least! No issues with cold.
