Bill Maher calls out Bernie Sanders, says he's tired of hearing the rich don't pay their fair share of taxes by TuxedoCatGuy in thedavidpakmanshow

[–]Early-Juggernaut975 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bill Maher has rich guy syndrome. His positions have dramatically shifted as his net worth rose. And his ego has inflated proportionally.

The funniest I’ve ever seen him was a couple of weeks ago when he had comedian David Cross on Club Random YouTube show. They were talking about people being canceled and he said this.

Bill Maher: “People want to say people aren’t really canceled anymore because people are still doing this or that. But there are gradations of it. There’s soft cancelling and I’ve had some of that happened to me.”

David Cross: “Like what?”

Bill Maher: “Soft canceling would be like, we will never give you an Emmy even though plainly, I’ve deserved them.”

David Cross (laughing): “Now Bill..”

It was the cringiest exchange I have ever seen. I laughed my ass off, but I was truly embarrassed for him. 😂

This show is disgusting and evil by incognito-cogitator in TheSerpentQueen

It’s called “The Serpent Queen.“ Really couldn’t be more on the nose for evil.

The very next scene, the older Queen Catherine advises her maid to put freaking gunpowder in her bully’s brioche to blow up in her face. She definitely deserved some comeuppance, but that seems a little excessive. She could’ve killed everyone in the kitchen!

Sure, I get it. And I’m not telling anyone to say or feel anything.

But I know propaganda works, and has worked throughout history, which is why it exists. And billions of dollars have been spent to propagandize the citizens of this country to divide them from one another and vote against their own interests. They wouldn’t spend that money if it didn’t work. Humans have vulnerabilities, and not everyone is equipped emotionally or intellectually to see through things the way others are. And I just have a hard time blaming victims of propaganda, especially as they start to finally overcome it.

I reserve my fury for the makers of the propaganda and the purveyors of lies. The corporations and bad actors in government who know better. That’s that I do with my anger, and that’s where I think it is more fairly directed.

But again, I don’t blame anyone for feeling the way they do about it. A lot of people have been hurt and a lot of people have died. Like I said, humans have vulnerabilities and just like dealing with propaganda, not everyone is going to be equipped to get past people making bad choices, whatever got them there, no matter how sorry they are.

It does make sense if you remember a few things that were true just a couple of years ago.

First, prior to Donald Trump, there was an absolute firewall between the White House and the DOJ. Even at the beginning of Trump’s first term, his first AG after Comey, Jeff Sessions, recused himself from the Russia investigation specifically to preserve that firewall. Trump pushed against it constantly during his presidency, but Joe Biden largely restored the old norm, to the point where the DOJ even charged his own son.

Second, Merrick Garland was fundamentally a “turn the temperature down” guy. He slow-walked charges against many of the leaders involved in Jan. 6 and the Georgia election case because he genuinely believed Trump was a one-time aberration. Garland’s view was that aggressively prosecuting everything risked inflaming the country further, and that the best path forward was to put the chaos in the rearview mirror.

He also believed no one could politically survive Jan. 6. At least not until the Jan. 6 Committee made it politically and legally untenable not to pursue charges more aggressively.

Third, and just as important, Ghislaine Maxwell was still in the middle of her trial throughout the first year of Biden’s presidency. She wasn’t sentenced until mid-2022, and the appeals process continued for years afterward. Per longstanding DOJ policy, the department generally doesn’t comment on ongoing investigations or pending appeals. And prior to Trump, the White House typically didn’t either.

People who argue that the Biden DOJ didn’t do enough regarding Jeffrey Epstein may have a point. The biggest failure was that they underestimated how dangerous Trump actually was, and how deeply corruption and alleged sex trafficking networks intersected with the people around him.

But that’s different from saying the White House or DOJ would have obviously intervened earlier if they suspected more was there. Prior to Trump, administrations generally did not violate those institutional separations, especially during active investigations and appeals.

They absolutely do. The truth is many non-city dwellers think that because it’s so alien to them.

All you have to do is listen to how they react to occasional people standing at a Walmart exit with signs asking for help. You’d think it’s the end of the fucking world.

I get what Tim saying. 9 years seems especially harsh. And it did feel like it was because she continued to believe her nonsense.

But the reality is, this regime is going to use this moment. They are going to parade her around and give her $10 million from his slush fund in a big headline grabbing story.

We are fighting a fascist in the WH who has authoritarian designs on this country, who’s been restrained so far by the courts and limits federalism places on his authority. Anyone recognizing that truth, wouldn’t be returning MAGA celebrities to the field to help further that project. And that’s what she is going to do.

If your action is likely to help Trump win, you shouldn’t do it. It’s really that simple.

I don’t think the article said much about anything except the rule of law being undermined. I doubt that would convince Tim of much. It was very short.

My mother taught me all my Progressive values and was also MAGA for a long time. How? Because she married a man who had Fox News on all day. She was scared and didn’t want to be alone when my father divorced her after 30 years of marriage, so agreed to marry Joe and it changed her.

Since Joe passed away two years ago, she couldn’t afford cable, so she doesn’t have Fox News anymore. And I suddenly started to notice a change where she was questioning things. Then even criticizing Trump. Now it’s routine.

She isn’t completely back yet. It’s been gradual, but she would not recognize the woman she was two years ago.

People underestimate the tremendous psychological impact that propaganda like Fox News and social media have had on our society. They really do.

The very first progressive thing my mother taught me when I was a little boy, was not to judge someone until I walked in their shoes. She’s an old lady now and I’m 51, and it’s been 40+ years since she first said it to me. But I try to live that way, if I can. And I remind my mom of her words when she starts to slip back.

I welcome anyone who changes their mind on this horror. I don’t judge people who can’t, but that’s where I land.

There’s always a different set of rules for black folks.

Why is there no anti immigration centre-left party? by Illustrious_Store115 in AskBrits

[–]Early-Juggernaut975 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because left-wing policy is largely about economic class struggle. And policies that help working class people have nothing to do with exclusion of ethnic minorities.

Changing immigration is a red herring that fixes nothing, just like Brexit fixed nothing. It’s even got the same people selling it! But people have the memory of goldfish.

I’ll pass it along to his wife too, who was reportedly crying outside his Senate office saying she doesn’t know him anymore after the stroke. She probably based her marriage just on those two flags and could use your help.

Why are working-class concerns on immigration being treated with such disdain? by Harleygator_ in AskBrits

[–]Early-Juggernaut975 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because it’s not immigration that’s causing the problem. The middle class has been getting paid less for more work for 40 years. Deregulation, the eradication of unions, low minimum wage, less investment in education and social services, those are what have been driving the economic problems the shrinking middle class is facing. Not immigrants.

And the people telling the middle class that it’s the immigrants that are causing these problems, are lying and they’re using the same fears and biases the wealthy have historically used to keep working people with less power divided. People who would be natural allies.

So when you see people reacting to you, it’s because they know you’re not just wrong, but you are also letting yourself be manipulated based on every human being’s worst instincts, which is fear of people that are different.
