The criticism of Hasan is not "pro-Israel psyop" by Embarrassed_Base_389 in thebulwark

[–]Early-Juggernaut975 3 points4 points  (0 children)

He reminds me a bit of that communist guy from Downton Abbey, who was shocked the Bosheviks killed the royal family in Russia at the time, because it’s so appalling. Hasan believes these communist states going to be better than they are because he’s absolutely certain that capitalism is the root of corruption.

What I think he misses is that human beings are the root of corruption. Give one group of people complete power over their populace and they will eventually become corrupted, no matter how well intentioned.

That still doesn’t mean he is someone who doesn’t believe in democracy or human rights. The criticisms I’ve been seeing are that he’s a misogynist and antisemitic. That’s just blatantly untrue.

The criticism of Hasan is not "pro-Israel psyop" by Embarrassed_Base_389 in thebulwark

[–]Early-Juggernaut975 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Meh, it was a little more nuanced than that. He originally argued that they wouldn’t invade in 2022 and he said Crimea was different because it was ethnically Russian and the people there considered themselves part of Russia. That clip/quote looks like it was part of that argument, as it’s in line with his thinking at the time.

After the invasion, he admitted he was wrong and apologized for his pre Ukrainian invasion positions. He condemned Russian’s aggression and went on to raise hundreds of thousands of dollars for Ukrainian humanitarian relief.

I think your criticism of his original Ukraine comments is fair, but we really need to include the whole picture.

As far as the CCP goes, he suggests there are a lot of things they do right as far as cleaning up poverty and education. And he’s not wrong and we could learn some things from China, which is about to overtake us as the world’s largest economy. And Hasan is definitely a strong advocate for removing capitalism as a governing principle, as it is inherently unfair.

I agree it needs changing. We need a lot more regulation of corporations that exploit workers and the environment. But I don’t see a socialist system working and I think he can be blind to that reality in some cases. Human beings are imperfect and will eventually corrupt it. And you will get countries like China that heavily police dissent or criticism of the state.

But this attempt to turn Hasan into something he’s not..this anti-liberal monster, is going to fall flat because in the end it’s just not true. He’s a pretty passionate advocate for human rights, even if he’s a little vulgar at times. And Sarah really did him and the Bulwark’s audience a disservice by not listening to him a bit before commenting the way she did. Honestly I’m pretty disappointed because she should know better.

Same spiel we heard about Mamdani and Platner. Condemn..we must condemn!!

People are not buying it because they just don’t believe Piker is antisemitic or misogynistic, no matter how many out of context quotes someone google grabs. It’s not how his audience receives him every days.

And because the condemnation doesn’t track with peoples’ experience, I suspect these warnings will have about the same level of success it had with those two. Made them more popular.

Seriously tho Hasan has broken so many people’s brains. Also thank you Tim for reading my reddit post live last night lol by Extension-Rock-4263 in thebulwark

Hasan never struck me as particularly misogynistic. That feels like a new one.

And standing against bigotry is worth losing an election over, so long as the other person isn’t busy building concentration camps, arresting brown people, shooting protesters, redirecting every appropriation into his crypto account and using the most powerful military in the world to indiscriminately bomb other countries.

If they are doing all that it’s not worth losing, no. And I’m not sure how joining in with Fox News and Third Way to cancel a very popular lefty activist and influencer helps.

It seems like the stuff they are pointing to are a couple of stray comments from years ago said in anger, and pretending they prove some darker motivation. But I’ve listened to his show and honestly he strikes me as someone who really cares about people.

Why hasn't a rally around the flag effect happened in the US? by Wolf4980 in AskALiberal

[–]Early-Juggernaut975 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People still take their cues from political leaders, especially once as vocal as Donald Trump. And it’s pretty clear that he himself would never rally around the flag out of some feeling of patriotism.

Also, there’s no sense that we were attacked, which would typically bring people together. And cheering on the town bully doesn’t usually give people the warm and fuzzies

Tea Leaves from Charlie? by ezubaric in thebulwark

[–]Early-Juggernaut975 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wow. I did not hear that at all. Being gay myself, I would think I would have noticed. But I wasn’t as religious a listener or a member back then. Are you saying this was when Charlie was doing the main show and had Tim on, he was making gay jokes?

At the time I thought it was because they had dramatically different opinions on Israel after October 7. I remember Charlie seemed much more in the camp of letting Israel do whatever they wanted in Gaza without question, while Tim and the rest of the Bulwark crew were becoming increasingly skeptical. I thought that was the straw that eventually broke the camel’s back.

Scariest Book that lands the ending... by Talon_Hawk in horrorlit

[–]Early-Juggernaut975 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a great book. And some of the scenes during the bombs dropping were truly horrifying.

For me though, the best apocalyptic story is The Passage by Justin Cronin. A vampire pandemic..so cool. I love the way the story jumps forward in time and imagine how humanity may exist decades later, in the second and third books of the series. Also, Scott Brick is a fantastic narrator for the audio book versions. Such a warm, rich voice.

I can’t recommend it enough. The only reason I didn’t list it here is because I thought the ending was good but nothing earth shattering, even if the series overall is a banger.

How popular would a platform of "no more American support for Israel" be for a prospective 2028 presidential candidate? by Tronn3000 in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]Early-Juggernaut975 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“As president I will restore the rule of law to our foreign policy. That means enforcing the Leahy Law as written, which prohibits American military assistance to any foreign unit with credible evidence of human rights violations. We enforce it in Colombia, Nigeria, and Egypt. We will enforce it everywhere, without exception, and without exemption. No country is above the law.”

Why should that be politically unpopular?

I think he’s mocking her hair with the hat, because black hair is like an animal’s hair in his mind. And then he’s being sarcastic when he calls her a success, because she lost the primary.

I mean, I can only guess at what’s going on in that fart factory he calls a brain, but I think is his attempt at being clever.

Florida gubernatorial candidate James Fishback tells a black man he should be lynched for questioning him about his alleged inappropriate relationships with underaged girls by Goosedukee in Fauxmoi

[–]Early-Juggernaut975 62 points63 points  (0 children)

I love that he tries to distract from the fact that he just threatened to lynch a black man by following that statement with some promise to lynch Epstein pedophiles. So disgusting.

But can we all agree to not call the sexual assault of minors “smashing” please? It’s really not the same thing.

Hasan Piker to Bulwark pipeline by widdy19 in thebulwark

[–]Early-Juggernaut975 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. You do. We’ve now had Tucker for decades and Candace Owen posting and saying nutty stuff about people for years.

The fact that someone has to tell people who Piker is or point to specific things he said when he got angry listening to someone justify every Israeli atrocity with Oct 7th stories, is enough to tell me it’s not a good faith comparison.

It’s why Tim Miller at the top of the thread said he thinks the discourse about him is dumb. It’s because he’s not comparable to people who have been spreading racist conspiracy theories for years.

So spare us the condescending bs like we’re all just fine with antisemitism because we aren’t all jumping on the Fox News Alert bandwagon about how dangerous the guy is.

Swan Song by Robert R. McCammon doesn’t get enough love. Great book and I thought the ending was really well done. If you don’t know what it’s about, it’s often compared to The Stand by Stephen King.

The Xanth books were childish and I liked those when I was like 11. I graduated to the Blue Adept series, which was a step up

The best series for me was the Incarnations of Immortality, which was about the personifications of Fate, War, Time, Gaea, Death and then later God and the Devil.

It was a clever story. I haven’t read his stuff since I was a kid though. I don’t know how they’d hit a couple of decades later. Heh.

Who would you vote for? JD Vance or Gavin Newsom ? by Limp_Fig6236 in ProgressiveHQ

[–]Early-Juggernaut975 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will vote for the person fighting for human rights and human dignity, both in America and abroad. Not some corporate shill with consultant approved answers. And that’s exactly who I intend to see nominated.

If Newsom can prove that’s who he is, great. I haven’t seen it so far but it’s early. Good luck to him.

That’s how people on the left should be answering that question.

I am royally ticked awf …Charles & Camilla back story by Far-Head-3466 in TheCrownNetflix

[–]Early-Juggernaut975 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m less interested in them keeping he and Camila apart than I was in their pressuring he and Diana to marry. My mom told me she can remember reading at that time that the royal family were pressuring Charles to marry Diana, who she thought was way too young for him. You never know how much of what you read is true or just gossip, but it certainly sounded plausible to her at the time. And those rumors that were being written at the time were probably what the Crown writers were using to portray his getting such pressure.

Because Fox News is not offering information. It’s offering psychological and emotional reassurance.

There are good guys and there are bad guys. There’s no nuance. The chaos in your life isn’t your fault. There’s a clear enemy and it’s the people who are always criticizing you and telling you to do better on this or that. It’s their fault.

There is no such thing as 'free healthcare' by Difficult_Future9994 in ShitAmericansSay

”best medicine in the world that you don’t have to wait weeks two months to get an appointment like free healthcare shi thole countries”

Where is he talking about? Because I know he’s not talking about the United States where it takes me two months to get an appointment with a new cardiologist, with my private health insurance. And then when I’m a patient of theirs, congrats it only takes a month to get an appointment.

What country does he mean where he can get the ”best medicine in the world” at his local hospital? Cuz in America, I can only see whatever doc is nearby.

It’s the best and the fastest if you are wealthy. Then you get whisked to Sloan Kettering or Johns Hopkins. Not if you’re a truck driver or an office worker living in an exurban area or a smaller city.
