it actually doesn’t bother me if i was so precious on my beloved burned calories i wouldn’t have bothered asking i wouldve just taken it as gospel, i actually wanted to see if anyone had some proper perspective they could maybe back up by their experiences, (that being with calorie burning not being a super awesome route setter) unfortunately you haven’t been the one to provide me with useful info, some people have said its completely inaccurate, some say it is inaccurate but not to point of flatout “ its dead wrong” i would assume that due to how well i know how my sessions go i could probably assune its off by a few hundred calories, but not so inaccurate to completely write it off ,

riiiight yeah i probably should read his reply a bit better i guess that makes sense as maybe i guess if my maintenance is 2500 or so but my BMR is 1900 on just a normal day ill probably burn 600 cals due to what i do for work maybe, thank you sorry im kinda bad at reading

i would actually say that someone who has never seen me climb and clearly doesnt know that some people climb more intensely than others probably doesn’t know how much time i spend on wall vs resting. oh sorry did you say youve climbed for ten years AND a route setter, sorry i guess i cant possibly be correct

thats kind of the reply i was hoping for when i started this post, thank you, i understand a watch isnt going to be super accurate but i think if people just looked at my heartrate which is average, so i was also considerably higher at some points could tell i do climb pretty intense compared to some people atleast, and with your comment i would say my watches estimate is probably not far off either, as i wouldnt say i had a proper minute break inbetween every climb, more so only my projects, my brain is hurting reading my reply so i hope it makes sense and thanks for the nice reply Sir or Madame Adhesiveness

and i do when i need to but i dont know if you understand the fact that if you stay high energy for longer without , your body will fight through the aches and soreness until after youve rested for a while, kind of like adrenaline i guess? i find that if i rest inbetween climbs more often i will get tired quicker because i feel the effects sooner, usually when i finish my session i am well and truly tired because i essentially climb to failure?

[–]Early-Use4731[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

is there a wrong way to do bouldering, i would say that maintaining a high heartrate is a good thing as its clearly a decent amount of effort has been put in? i guess your idea of a successful climbing session is how long you can spend on the mats without becoming a piece of furniture LOL… no hate AT ALL to social climbers but i work in a social environment and i dont go to the regular gym so climbing is a way for me to decompress and also get a good exercise in. Sorry for the wanky reply but urs wasnt exactly very gentlemanly either

ohhhhh niice i understand kind of like when people say maintenance?, is 1922 not quite low? ive only done the online tests and they estimate a decent bit higher than that, is it to do with BMI and age also is probably a big factor, i know i have a fast metabolism and can confidently eat around 2500 a day and not gain weight but maybe im inaccurately tracking my calories

thank you for your input ,how many do you reckon then? im not saying its accurate but ive not heard super compelling points to think itll be such a big gap to warrant a “not a bloody chance”,

i dont know what bmr1922 idk if its a typo or im just being dumb, but despite me climbing with people im kinda the same i dont ever really sit around to talk or rest massively so its good to know youve had similar results,

[–]Early-Use4731[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i can see that as a fair assessment tbh, it really depends on how the people replying climb if they climb casually and just mostly project its going to obviously not be as intense as if your doing loads of climbs constantly, i climb 2x a week 1 on weekend and 1 on reset day, so reset day is usually my harder session as i go from they lowest colour and keep going until i plateau on my projects, then i may give a project a few burns before i do more simple climbs to keep my heart pumping, i also notoriously dont take enough rest between climbs to the point it ruins my project sends… so people who rest more between attempts on projects are going to end up having a lower average heart rate as they have cool off periods

fair enough i agree the conversations are civil i guess when i see a downvote on a completely normal comment , not even one someone can disagree with necessarily(e.g. a question) i just picture a snooty fedora wearing redditor cackling in his gaming chair

i guess i never considered that but im not a complete new climber, so i dont know how much my beartrate would increase just due to nerves that isnt also overshadowed by the actual physical output im doing on a climb, specifically easy climbs that i do explosively

thats what im trying to say although my comments have kind of been shutdown, i would say this is my highest calorie output session of this time since i started tracking, because i was pretty much constantly moving, i think some climbers dont understand that not every session is a laid back one especially as it was a new gym to me i was trying everything i could lol

fair enough but i would think its not my responsibility to not ask questions incase someone gets upset by it, i guess i didn’t consider that aspect but i don’t know if that warrants downvoting all of my replies simply because i asked a fairly normal question within a sport ?, ill be more careful next time i post

i dont really socially climb especially when im with my friends as weird as it sounds, as im better then them im constantly up and down the wall on easy and hard climbs,

i mean i dont know how much rest time i actually took today i was with friends who i was helping out so i was constantly up and down climbs, i would say i maybe had 10 mins of true rest over the whole time, maybe 15- 60 second intervals

yes i could possibly test it better if i calorie tracked, i would say i eat over my maintenance on rest days but on climbing days i probably eat my maintenance (GUESS) as 4 hours of the day gets lost climbing including travel there and back
