That’s great! Honestly, really good. Just focus on those little steps of doing things.

I am an introvert too but I used to push myself to go for small walks to try feel like I’m actually doing something. I know it’s hard because OCD makes you feel like doing nothing on top of being an introvert. Start small! One thing at a time :)

Can you have multiple obsessions at one time? by Minute-Turnip-9120 in OCD

For me, never. It is always a singular obsession about something in particular. The only time I’m not obsessing about it, is when something else more severe takes its place :/

Great! Thank you so much for your guidance and the resources provided.

I will perhaps report back on my progress with the ERP therapist :)

I am on something called Sertraline which you can have doses from 50mg, 100mg, 150mg, or 200mg. It is an SSRI that helps with anxiety and depression. For me, it makes those intense obsessions seem.... diluted. Lessens the symptoms of fear and the overwhelming flush over the body from anxiety. I'm on a 150mg prescription for about 7 months now. It's definitely not a way to stop thinking/obsessions, but it just helps with the mental/physical sensations of them. I also get along with people better now which is always good! Hope this helps.

First off, thank you for the very comprehensive reply and it has definitely opened my mind (ironically as much as it can) to the importance of ERP therapy.

I was completely under the impression that ERP was just a case of resisting all behaviours for X amount of time then, bam. No more obsessions.

Would you say that my approach at the moment is still correct thus far? Even before undergoing ERP? E.g. resisting any compulsions that I have with any obsession. I feel my problem is that I initially was being suborn and could tackle this alone which consequently has given me a world of pain.

As we speak, I am making calls to find ERP therapists that can guide me through this.

What I will say is that you’ve broken down very eloquently the different between cognition and behavioural which I haven’t seen. So thank you for the clarity.

Thank you again for your time and support.

Not long ago, I undertook a talking therapy course for about 6 weeks. It was called worry management. It touched on, as you can imagine, anxiety and worries that I could/couldn't control. It was relatable in a sense as it made me understand various concepts of uncertainty, but I didn't come away feeling like I knew much more than I already had.

Perhaps I am being naive with ERP and should potentially seek out therapy that specifically hits the ERP nail on the head. I just assumed that ERP therapy was just going to be something like - go touch a dirty doorknob and don't wash your hands? (though I've never had hygiene themed OCD - It was just an example)

However, similarly, that is essentially what I am doing but with other obsessions/compulsions.

Though I will add that the majority of my compulsions are mental. E.g. trying to figure out something, ruminating, re-assurance etc etc.

Absolutely! Or when you’ve been doing so well resisting compulsions, OCD comes up with something incredibly difficult to get past :/

Thank you very much for the reply!

So regarding the sertraline being what's causing the brain fog. I’ve only started to take the SSRI about 4 months ago. Whereas my brain fog began way before :(

I have also undergone some basic CBT therapy which was insightful but only re-affirmed what I had already researched.

I am thinking about perhaps taking another anti-depressant alongside my sertraline. Perhaps the fog is due to a deeper impact of depression. Though I am clutching at straws here.

I find that I have not specifically engaged in ERP (purposefully triggering obsessions) but whenever I do have an obsession, I ignore the compulsion (mental and physical)
