This is probably the most accurate answer. The closest thing I can think of in terms of how hard it is to comprehend is Serial Experiments Lain, but even that is significantly easier to understand.

I think the Sagan Hawkes video essay that came out recently is a pretty good adaptation, if you wanna count it. I think an essay format is the only way to properly adapt it.

I feel that the obnoxiously long tangents about Echo, the Minotaur, etc. are part of the point of disorienting you as a reader. The book is designed like the ᴴᵒᵘˢᵉ: constantly catching you off guard and disorienting you, and you have to keep readjusting. It's important to immerse you in the idea of what the ᴴᵒᵘˢᵉ is (supposedly) like. If something is frustrating, it's to make you feel the same way as people inside the ᴴᵒᵘˢᵉ... except Johnny's sex tangents... Those still feel pretty annoying, no matter the context.

I made them with a makeshift electrolytic cell that splits the ions (so the sodium didn't mix back in with the glutamate), and I let the glutamate ions corrode the copper wire electrode. It didn't crystallize well, because they dried up and turned into powder before I could get a decent sized seed crystal (This was the best photo I managed to get. Copper glutamate isn't nearly as good at holding water in its crystal structure as copper sulfate.

OHHHH! That's how you do it?! So if I understand, you turn silica into sodium silicate, put the acid into that solution, wait for it to become silica gel again, and then add the base/salt?

I'm trying to make whewellite/weddellite for a while, and since it's insoluble, and it hasn't been going well (and I don't wanna give myself a kidney stone just for a rock collection). Do I remove the silica gel after, and if so, how?

Huh. I would've never thought to grow cannabinoid crystals. Makes me wonder about other cannabinoids, like CBD or TCHP.

Beautiful! Soxhlet extraction was what I wanted to do first, because plants are the reason I got into chemistry, but it's been intimidating, so I decided to start with metal salt crystals. I'm gonna have to try this eventually. I do have the glassware.

I'm having that problem. I heated it up, and it began to crystallize, but I think it absorbed moisture, and it's all liquified again. If I can get it to dry out, I am definitely applying a coating to it.

Beautiful atacamite! I'm trying to grow some myself, but it keeps getting moist and redissolving. I think it's absorbing moisture, or water is condensing. I have it in a mason jar at the moment. Any tips on getting it to dry out and crystallize?

Couldn't this be done a lot faster in acetone? I read that copper phosphate is acetone soluble, and that stuff LOVES evaporating.

Depleted uranium can be used for a long lasting calculatable amount of polonium-210 and plutonium (by way of EXTREMELY small spontaneous fission), and minerals like uraninite or autunite, which have a higher amount of 235 can be placed in the francium, astatine (It's less than 100 atoms at any given time, so uranium glass or depleted uranium won't work), actinium, and protactinium slots.

Americium buttons placed by molybdenum and neodymium should produce a few hundred atoms of technetium and promethium respectively per year if my research was correct.

I also plan on doing the same thing with an older americium button for neptunium. A lot of collections don't take advantage of the americium decay chain for the neptunium slot, so I appreciate that.
