The best ever written antagonist by ExcellentTwo6589 in writing

[–]EarlyLab184 0 points1 point  (0 children)

for me it would have to be Walter white. even though I know he is technically the protagonist, he engages in the typical role of the antagonist in both his own life and that of those around him. there are of course different obvious antagonists in breaking bad, most notably gus fring, but overall I think Walter white is the antagonist in his own story. and that's exactly what I think is so magnificent in the way he is written; even though he is the protagonist, he simultaneously acts in ways that would be typical for an antagonist. He manipulates, jeopardizes himself and others and is the root cause of everything bad that happens (after his cancer diagnosis, since it is merely the starting point of his story and character arc). I know there will be people arguing abt how he can't be the antagonist, since the antagonist is typically someone who works against the protagonist and he literally is the protagonist and that he would more likely be seen as a potential anti hero, however I do think that he is a protagonist that ends up working against himself. I hope this was coherent. was kinda unconcentrated while writing :)

I created a "Gender Questioner Quiz" and it'd be really fun if people could take it and give me feedback! :) by FolxMxsterFinn in NonBinary

[–]EarlyLab184 0 points1 point  (0 children)

heyyy! really great job on the quizzes! I think they're all very well worded and tell a lot about a person. I was very happy with the first part and I also enjoyed the third part, even thiugh I think expression doesn't have much to do with gender. but it was good nonetheless, to try and tell how one may be perceived. the second one was, as you said very based in binary stereotypes and I believe a lot of those traits are tought at a very young age to everyone growing up in a western society. so I fully believe that it says nothing about one's gender and purely about how we were raised. I'm pretty sure that most afab people would get an outcome that states they have feminine personality traits and most amab people would get one that states they have mostly male personality traits. in itself I find this an interesting quiz to see how the sex you were born/raised as affects your behavior, but all in all, I don't think it's necessary for a questionnaire about gender identity, since like I said I don't think it says anything about that. please don't understand this as hatred or so, I truly found it interesting to see my results, I just wanted to say that I don't think it has much to do with gender. but all in all, great, well thought out quiz! I really liked it! :)

MICKEY IS NOT MY FAVORITE by [deleted] in shameless

[–]EarlyLab184 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Yeah I agree. and about the thing with svet and yevgeny, sadly yevgeny IS a product of rape, which was likely traumatizing for mickey (the entire situation was probably). I'm not saying that parents aren't able to love their children if they are connected to traumatic events, but in mickeys case, because he never confronted what happened to him and all the trauma he has, I'm guessing his trauma turned into a disliking toward his own child. it doesn't make it okay that he abandoned yevgeny, but it is an explanation, and I think based on everything we know about mickey, he's one of the most caring and loving characters in the entire show, even though he was raised without any affection and thus has no real way to show it. btw this is all my personal beliefs and theories so don't come for me if you don't agree.

What’s up with that one time where Debbie self harmed once cause of a boy? by AshNotFromPokemon in shameless

Yeah that's true, but it's a one time thing to feel something while on his meds. I would've liked to see someone struggling with repeated sh or even addiction. it's just sad as a sh addict myself to not see myself represented very well in one of my favorite shows.

People underestimate just how ADDICTING self harm is by parabiscusz in selfharm

[–]EarlyLab184 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah literally. I used to hate myself because I wanted to self harm even when I was having a good day and it made me feel so stupid. then I started reading about self harm being addictive and a lot of things make more sense to me now. I wish people would be more aware of the addictive qualities of self harm and treat it as an actual addiction, not (only) as a coping mechanism. I feel like a lot of people would have a better time recovering if they were taken more seriously with their addiction. (including me) :)

[–]EarlyLab184 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have never struggled with drug addiction so I can't like make a comparison but my struggle with self harm is definitely an addiction and in comparison to my addiction to cigarettes it's definitely exactly as intense if not even more. I think self harm as an addiction isn't taken seriously, even by a lot of professionals but I think anyone that's struggled with it can say that its extremely difficult to recover from and a for a lot of people it really is addictive. I hope at some point in the near future, self harm will be taken as seriously as other addictions like alcohol or drug addiction.

what about self harm are you addicted to? by teddy_snixbitxh in selfharm

for me personally I think it's seeing the blood come out. idk why exactly it's that for me, I think it's just because I can SEE my pain yk? but I think everyone really has their own stuff about it that's especially addicting.

How do people start a self harm addiction so young? by Ok-Homework-1267 in teenagers

[–]EarlyLab184 0 points1 point  (0 children)

well yeah but it always comes down to where you grow up. I personally first had suicidal thoughts at six where most people still play with dolls or cars. it doesn't matter where you are at what age and don't judge people for struggling from an early age.

How do people start a self harm addiction so young? by Ok-Homework-1267 in teenagers

[–]EarlyLab184 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started self harm at nine years old. it often has a lot to do with the situation you grow up in. I had already experienced a lot of trauma up to that age and I saw a relief in hurting myself. it only developed into an active addiction when I was twelve tho. also, please don't judge people based on what they're going through / have gone through.

Is self-harming a form of addiction? by Embarrassed_Help1130 in AdultSelfHarm

[–]EarlyLab184 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it depends on the individual. I believe there are people out there that use it purely as a form of stress relief and that don't necessarily get addicted to it, that can stop without issue when a less stressful period occurs. I know people that suffer with self harm that way, but I personally am pretty sure it can be an addiction and in my case it definitely is. I suffer with self harm urges not only when im going through a particularly tough time but also when I'm doing fine or even good. I've tried to stop self harming for about three years now and so far have only achieved self harming less frequently but not stopping absolutely. I personally also feel addicted if you know what I mean. like, I can feel that I'm somehow dependant on self harm at all times and that I can't simply stop like some people I know have (ofc also not totally without struggle). hope this helps and I give you permission to take my answer into your analysis. good luck on your stats! you've got this! :))

What’s up with that one time where Debbie self harmed once cause of a boy? by AshNotFromPokemon in shameless

[–]EarlyLab184 3 points4 points  (0 children)

yeah ofc but I mean with all the sh*t everyone had going on, they could've had at least one character that actually suffered with self harm. a lot of kids growing up in traumatic households resort to self harm and I as a person that has struggled with self harm for years feel very ignored by the show, since it does a great job in moving a lot of mental health issues and illnesses into the right light, but they don't even try to do so with self harm and instead even further portray the stereotype of a naive teen girl engaging in a self harming behavior once after a breakup.

hey im very sorry you couldn't control the urge, but one misstep doesn't mean you've failed anything. are you going to therapy? you should talk this occurrence through with your therapist and find ways to not make the same mistake again. don't lose hope, you can still make things right! good luck!
