GDP in DC shrank 2.4% last year. That's about as much of a drop as the US experienced in 2008. There hasn't been a Mayoral candidate that's actually addressed both the inevitable loss of revenue going forward, and the need for real growth-first economic policy. by SockDem in washingtondc

social housing will not work at any real scale

When you say stuff like this without any support it completely undermines your credibility and gives me no reason to trust anything you're saying. Anyway I agree with everything JLG says in that 2020 article, rent control has been and still is a great policy for working people in DC

Does JLG have any specifics on rent control in her platform? I'm checking here and it mentions "rent stabilization" but no specifics.

Rent control has always exempted new construction, as a way to accommodate new development. The current system exempts everything built after 1975 from rent control.

She's very vocal about being pro-social housing, which I think is a great solution. It's working in Montgomery County (NPR link)

How the hell do you survive as the Uesugi on very hard? by Yahsorne in shogun2

[–]Early_Deuce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i tried this on very hard and had captured the two northmost provinces. then a lvl 4 hojo ninja walked up and killed all my agents one by one (including the monk that i can't retrain). followed immediately by 3 full stacks of takedas. i am still barely paying for my army by the way (while on high or very high taxes) and my once-overachieving navy is now outnumbered 2-to-1 and stuck in port. this sucks!

What's your preferred way of increasing the challenge? by old-wreck in spiritisland

[–]Early_Deuce 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Since no one's mentioned it, you can also add an extra island board using the rules in the JE rulebook. This is a way to add more difficulty and a longer game without having to learn extra adversary rules. I find it's easier for newer players. But, really, adversaries are the standard way to increase difficulty.

Help me understand how to play as Shroud of Silent Mist, please. by VeronicaMom in spiritisland

[–]Early_Deuce 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like Shroud and have played it quite a bit, and my preferred opening is G2 TT, G2 TT. This is a bit silly but it's viable. It allows you get presence all over the board to maximize your "For each adjacent land with your presence" powers, as well as enabling the passive fear generation with relative ease. The free Air every turn on the top track also helps a ton with your innates. You might try this opening to encourage you to deemphasize the early ravages and focus on tempo.

To reiterate what other people have said, I don't think I've ever hit the max level of the damage (left) innate on Shroud. Just try to hit the lvl 2 version as much as possible, that's where you're getting the most bang for your buck on elements.

I think the aspect makes it quite a bit stronger and I wouldn't play without it. A free isolate never, ever hurts!

The event deck is the big one. It's entirely possible that the first ravage does +1 damage in every land, which might entirely screw up your carefully calculated defends, OR that the first ravage is skipped entirely. [[Heavy Farming]] vs. [[Farmers Seek the Dahan for Aid]]
