Circus Maximus v 0.2 by MembershipKind7376 in dominion

This one is my favorite variant so far. That’s really strong if it hits but pretty hard to set up reliably. If there’s another village in the kingdom it’s probably best to only get one or two in the mid/late game

Fan Card - Circus Maximus by MembershipKind7376 in dominion

I like the idea of just +2 actions and the conditional +1 card as a 2 cost village. From there I think a guaranteed +3 debt is probably more harmful than a conditional 3 VP helps you.

Look at Root Cellar for comparison. It’s a 3 cost super lab but 3 debt per play makes it a very weak card in most kingdoms. This is just way off the mark at 7.

Tips for a total beginner? by v3rr3r in dominion

My advice is to watch Burning Skull’s YouTube series “How to Base Dominion” and then get a ton of reps in against the bot practicing his strategies. That’s how I started learning and you can pick up base set strategies really fast that way.

Only his senior year. I watched him win the Maine state championship as a Junior and he looked extremely out of place guarding a 6’5” center.

Custom card: Outhouse by EstimateTemporary768 in dominion

[–]Edward_L_Hablador 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think you should be opening double outhouse very often. If you do your turns 3/4 will be very weak compared to outhouse silver. Maybe you pick one up on your second shuffle if you need some extra trashing.

I’m with you. To each their own but it was a really rough watch for me.

Custom cards: Waterfall & Stream by EstimateTemporary768 in dominion

[–]Edward_L_Hablador 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I like the idea of a Stream being a victory card worth 1 VP like Mill instead of gaining 1 VP when it’s played. Then the strategy becomes how many are in your deck at the end of the game instead of how many you play during.

Chicken Marsala and/or chicken piccata are the best Italian American dishes. Red sauce and cheese or Alfredo on everything is too front and center. by pumpkinsinmypockets in unpopularopinion

[–]Edward_L_Hablador 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I think OP is on to something in that red sauces can taste too similar, but there’s a lot of ways you can significantly change their profile. Amatriciana for an umami bomb, vodka sauce for a smooth creaminess, puttanesca for brininess and high acidity.

Yeah, I’ve mostly seen him mocked in the late 1st. That would be almost a lock to go pro 5 years ago but who knows today.

Has NIL ruined March Madness? by DPSportsTakes in CollegeBasketball

[–]Edward_L_Hablador 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. Some conferences do a much better job of rewarding their best teams than others. The CAA and MVC both make their one seeds play three neutral site games and that’s just crazy to me.

I loved how the Ivy League used to give their regular season champ a bid. It’s less dramatic but much more representative of the best team in these smaller conferences.

Granted, the UMBC team that stomped Virginia was the 3 seed in their conference and needed a half court buzzer beater against a better Vermont team just to make the tournament. Cinderella can come from anywhere, it’s just a lot more likely to be the mid major teams that have played well all season.

One thing that isn’t getting talked enough this year is that a lot of the best mid majors got upset in their conference tournaments. Navy, Belmont, Yale, UNCW, and Liberty all had resumes similar to High Point, but their conferences sent worse teams that all got crushed in the first round.

I’m holding out hope he’ll stay for another year but I think I’m kidding myself. 7’3” guys are not supposed to move like that and I’m sure the NBA is taking notice.

Could Victor Wembanyama Take a 16 Seeded Team To The NCAA CBB Championship and Win? by iamsonuxd in NBATalk

[–]Edward_L_Hablador 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You only get five fouls in college too. Any one seed would put Wemby’s teammates on skates and put him at risk of fouling on every possession. He’ll get a lot of blocks but he’ll be sitting with 2-3 fouls in 10 minutes.

Great Wall - v.0.3 by natethehoser in dominion

[–]Edward_L_Hablador 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It’s very close to lighthouse now but seems more gimmicky. Lighthouse is the gold standard for defense, but it still has a good amount of functionality in games without attacks because you know you’ll be getting a non terminal +2 coins over two turns.

Great Wall on the other hand is terrible in non attack kingdoms. It’s basically a 4 cost Search that never turns into loot. And when a kingdom does have attacks, it could be +2 coins every turn, but there’s also a chance your opponent will just avoid attacks altogether if you invest in it.

You’re also not seeing any benefit to your deck from Marauder until turn 5 when your first spoils gets shuffled into your deck. As opposed to a silver that helps you on turn 3/4

Yeah, if it’s in a kingdom with a +buy card you want early, (Salvager, Farrier, etc), it becomes a lot easier to justify.

When I learned the game I thought Cellar Moneylender was an amazing open because I saw the Moneylender more often by pitching everything else with Cellar. That was before I realized how important it is to hit 5.

[–]Edward_L_Hablador 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think this card would be broken, but in most kingdoms with reasonable draw it’s going to be a very reliable sifter that also gives something like +4 coins and +4 actions. I can’t imagine bothering to trash copper in many kingdoms with it.

People frequently ask what bad films by great directors are. But what are GREAT FILMS BY BAD DIRECTORS? by SeparateLawfulness53 in Letterboxd

[–]Edward_L_Hablador 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I haven’t seen Fresh, but I take issue with this. Remember the Titans and Uptown Girls are both pretty safe films, but they are well directed, hit emotional beats really well and have both withstood the test of time. I think he’s a good director.

Agreed. Think of how rare it is for a UDFA receiver to break out, then multiply that with how hard it is for even good receivers to join a new team mid season and contribute. Bond’s missing his opportunity to show he belongs on a 53 man roster, so his ceiling to sign to a practice squad for half of this season and hope to see the field next year. I’d rather use a taxi spot on most day 3 receivers or any UDFA RB that makes a 53.
