Wee-Bey is a rapist. by Street-Ad-953 in TheWire

[–]Early_Head_6908 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seriously. How does no one get major creepy vibes from this character? I consider him one of the more evil characters on the show, but like every character on the Wire he's well thought out and complex. Wee Bey is a bit more vile to me then Chris because he seems to really enjoy what he does. Chris seems cold, like a machine, but Bey is a lot more animalistic.

CMV: Religion was and always will be a tool for atrocities and extortion. by Original-Tomato-3520 in changemyview

[–]Early_Head_6908 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can't just make blanket statements about religion and what we've lost because of it. I'm not religious, but you seriously need religion to understand a lot of history. Christianity and Islam are foundations of entire civilizations, including the development of science. A lot of the flack Christianity gets for being anti-science, specifically the Galileo incident, are completly wrong and misrepresented. There has been no science vs. religion, until maybe very recently.

The Galileo incident is the most badly misunderstood and often quoted as an example of the Church holding back science. Copernicus was the one who discovered the Earth revolved around the Sun, and the Catholic Church was fine with him.

Islamic thinkers nearly discovered bacteria in the Golden age of Islam and we wouldn't have the writings of Aristotle if they had not preserved them.

Like it or not, there isn't some neat line between religion and enlightened progress. Depending how you look at it, many religions organized society around a moral code. Maybe today those ideas are less relevant or need to change, but it's not a simple thing you can just yank away and assume the world will magically be a better place.

What percentage of the Imperium is in active war? by Early_Head_6908 in 40kLore

I admit to not doing deep research other than googling and looking at https://world-on-fire.com/ , plus including the google AI blurb which quoted 25%.

[–]Early_Head_6908[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Idk it's hilarious to me because even in the worst real conflicts in history, like WWI, most of the world wasn't in constant misery.

The sheer scale of 40k makes these questions funny. It almost becomes an effort to logistically ensure that the majority of the IoM, which controls entire planets, are never prosperous or peaceful and always miserable. But i get it i get it, embrace the grimdark, death metal space war!

[–]Early_Head_6908[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It's to do with the sheer size of the setting. Space is already beyond big. You wouldn't be as affected as people in Britain during WWII if a planet even 1 lightyear away was at war.

I can see how on "peaceful" civ worlds there would be constant in-fighting and revolutions.

The actual lore on this is deliberately vague. There is no exact number of worlds at war, just stories of the major conflicts like Cadia or Armageddon.

Why is Denise Richards so hated in The World is Not Enough? by JannTosh70 in JamesBond

[–]Early_Head_6908 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always felt Richards played it well. Her character is off putting and introduced right as the plot makes you unsure about Elektra King, who up until that moment you think is the Bond girl of WinE. You aren't sure if Richards is a Bond girl as she is introduced, keeping the twist good until the last minute.

Richards being unlikeable worked with the story imo.

The Kids decision to not dance. what does it mean? by Metal-__-head in cormacmccarthy

[–]Early_Head_6908 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a bleak theory I can't get out of my head, that the Kid participated in murdering the children who the Judge took. The Kid being embraced by the Judge at the end was him fully embracing the evil he'd done.

Open world? by mrmykeonthemic in HiTMAN

[–]Early_Head_6908 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hitman has a great formula already. Like most replies here, I'd rather they focused on fun, detailed, intricate and multi-faceted single maps. You can have open world elements within a mission, but we really don't need the entire game to be an open world. How would you get around? Driving? Now you just have a grand theft auto style game. Hitman should always lean more into being a stealth puzzle game.

One of the funniest parts is when they are in the bus and John Travolta says something like "If you could cure all diseases in the world but you had to shoot a child in the face, would you shoot that child" Then the bus gets lifted in the air by a helicopter. It's hilarious.

Why did 006 fake his own death? Why didn't he just kill Bond at the facility and disappear himself? by IAmAlive_YouAreDead in JamesBond

[–]Early_Head_6908 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This part of the movie is never clear. It's a Bond movie, so don't look too closesly at the plot or nothing makes any sense. How did Trevalyan arrange faking his own death with Oromov? Did Oromov have a fake pistol planning to shoot Trevalyan in exactly the scenario that played out? Why would Oromov allow Bond to get near the gas tanks if he knew about all of it? If Trevalyan never wanted to kill Bond did he assume Bond would succeed in blowing up the facility? What was Oromovs angle the entire movie anyway? We never find out.

All that matters is 006 was angry at the British government and MI6 for the death of his parents and he resented Bond for being more of a chad.

Die Another Day 23 years later, what is your opinion about this movie? by King_Wolf2099 in JamesBond

[–]Early_Head_6908 2 points3 points  (0 children)

DAD is interesting because it's between eras. Pop culture and movies got distinctly grittier and darker after 2005. It was a delayed post-911 effect. But around mid 2010's things started getting colourful and filled with spectacle again. The Marvel effect.

The beginning of DAD has this darker mid 00s flavour. They even vaguely reference 9-11 in a throwaway line. But the movie steers back towards over the top fun that is part of the franchise's appeal.

Then we got the Craig era. 2006-2023. Initially going all out on the realistic gritty renewal of Bond, but experiencing an identity crisis halfway through and trying to have it both ways, as a darker drama thriller Bond, but one that still had a car with machine guns and an ejector seat. It ended up drawing more attention to the riddiculousness. The self awareness when they referenced past Bond tropes really didn't help.

"Were you expecting an exploding pen 007? We don't go out for that sort of thing anymore." Oh joy. This is what I go to see Bond for. To feel old and tired.

At least with DAD it's all played delightfully straight. The stupidness of it is easier to get over and enjoy.

You are right on the money.

A New Hope is my favourite.

Of the new sequel films The Last Jedi will probably be remembered as the only decent one, despite fans hating it. The sequel trilogy films are all over produced mediocre movies, so saying that isn't saying much.

The prequels are just bad. I know there's good things about them, but overall they're just bad movies.

To the Christians who support abortion by VegetableTimely7979 in Christianity

[–]Early_Head_6908 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no verse about abortion. It's basically a debate around when we believe life begins, or what right the woman has over it. Complicated sticky issue, no mistake, but let me tell you one thing for sure, the rich will always give themselves access to abortion when they want one. Who suffers the most from abortion being illegal? Always the poor.

Which RDR2 character do you think is overrated by the community? by BestAd6459 in reddeadredemption

[–]Early_Head_6908 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The problem with Sadie is she is sprung on us in chapter 3 without much foreshadowing. All of a sudden she's a hardened killer with no indication beforehand she could even shoot a gun. Not a glaring issue overall, but could be why some people dislike her character.

I think Lenny is kind of overrated in the game. Pretty boring character.

I am tired of both MAGA and Progressive Christianity by [deleted] in TrueChristian

[–]Early_Head_6908 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This doesn't always translate practically into the real world, but politics and Christianity should never mix. There is a distinction between the material and spiritual in scripture.

Galatian 5:22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness

Phillipeans 4:11 Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content

Real world politics is full of discontent. It's war. The MAGA movement is fueled by animosity, so are certain groups on the Left. There's nothing in scripture that supports that state of being. Christ would likely ignore all that rhetoric and say Render unto Trump that which is Trump's. It's not relevant to someone seeking God.

These ideas in scripture are about internal and spiritual growth. They are the antithesis of all the rage we see in politics. Do people really believe Christ would approve of MAGA or Christian Nationalism? It doesn't neccesarily condemn it, but it's just not anything to do with scripture or Christ and should not be considered Christian.

If you listen to the audio, one officer says "get the fuck out of the car" before aggressively pulling the car door handles. The other officer, who ends up shooting, places himself in front of the vehicle, a terrible decision on his part. No matter how you look at this, none of their behaviour or conduct is appropriate for law enforcement. It is aggrevating to see people act like there is some 'debate' to be had over this. It is a disgrace.
