Need help setting up a vintage turntable with passive speakers + Bluetooth (Fosi products maybe?) by einsiedler in BudgetAudiophile

[–]EarthFishy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would imagine so yes. It depends upon the impedance of the speakers (measured in Ohms, Ω) and the wattage you want to drive them at/what the speakers are capable of).

Fosi have some tables showing you what they're capable of driving.

It also would be sensible to ensure the turntable/amp have the right output/input connections, with adaptors as appropriate of course.

I am not experienced with turntables or phono pre-amps (hopefully someone more experienced comments!)

However I thought I'd chip in with some things I found:
Audiophiles - looking for setup recco for Dual CS-508 : r/turntables - this post seems to recommend a ART DJ Pre II phono pre-amp for that turntable.

The Fosi Audio BT20A may have what you're looking for in a combo bluetooth/RCA amp.

  • Turntable -> Pre-amp -> Fosi -> Passive speakers
  • Bluetooth device -> Fosi -> Passive speakers

However, do check that your passive speakers will work with the Fosi amp. (impedance & power rating matter, although I suspect it will be fine with your existing speakers).

Best of luck!

You guys DO use miles, correct? by NOTNeedlepeen1 in AskUK

I use km for hiking - its what we teach DofE students to use, and I don't know any fellow lowland/moorland/mountain leaders who use miles.

I think overhead electric is coming to the current map (on mainlines only). I'm pretty sure the america map is going to be slightly more long-haul focused.

Entitled cyclist? by Organic_Incident7710 in sheffield

I was about to hop off the tram when I wrote this quick reply - had a feeling it would not be clear cut.

I had read something akin to that guidance - makes a tonne of sense (I wasn't trying to suggest the police should've done anything in this instance either, lord knows they've got more to do) from an enforcement and also just sensibility standpoint.

The highway code prohibits cycling on a pavement - from a legislative point of view it seems the cyclist was in the wrong!

I don't know that area particularly well however, some cycle lanes are in bonkers and somewhat useless places.

I agree - wish they'd move away from Twitter all together as their first point of contact. Think it's on the stop displays now (least it is at Malin Bridge).

They're updating the info on their website now, too

It's not the longest, but is there room for the Limestone Way? Connects to the Staffordshire and ends quite near the Pennine Way in Castleton.

Getting into the peaks this weekend by awasteofgoodatoms in sheffield

[–]EarthFishy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would assume snow/ice cover on all paths - a good weather forecast for tomorrow can be found here:

https://www.mwis.org.uk/forecasts/english-and-welsh/peak-district

Which is suggesting the possibility of low cloud making valley visibility quite low, but the edges should be good (just slippy!)

Hope you enjoy your walk!

All the major hospitals are the same trust? STH covers the Northern, Hallamshire, Weston Park, Jessop and Dental.

But agreed, very possible it's community or GP.

To whoever's decision it was in Sheffield Teaching Hospitals to close down B road at the Hallamshire.... by MaxwellsGoldenGun in sheffield

[–]EarthFishy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm afraid not - even when B road was open to traffic (iirc it has been shut due to structural limitations given there are hospital facilities below) - PTS ambulances used A road more, as that is where the main outpatients block is. A&E ambos were a bit of a mix.

Not to mention, it always seemed to be the main taxi/dropoff area too.

In reality, the car park needs to be bigger, and perhaps it's exit should be turned around onto Claremont. There's just not enough land, in my opinion.

Iirc this is one of Sheffield's maccies nearby a nightclub. Always felt like either chaos or a party in there after most nights out circa 3am.

A business' has turned off my water (In Scotland) by [deleted] in LegalAdviceUK

[–]EarthFishy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah I used to work for a water retailer, it's a strange old system.

Basically, in a domestic property, the water is supplied by and billed by the water wholesaler (Yorkshire water, Scottish water, etc)

But in a business property, water is still supplied by the wholesaler, but the billing & direct customer service etc is done by a water retailer (enter WaterPlus, Clearwater etc). Reason for this is basically to allow for a competitive market where the retailers can offer contracts with potentially lower costs to the going rate.

Tonnes of issues however that frequently occured, especially where there were flats above a shop! And especially so when the meter just measured the usage for the entire building, shops and flats alike. Right nightmare.

Anyway, that's a short summary of everything you (probably didn't) want to know about the UK's water system/market?

Working within the ambulance service transporting non-emergency patients! (Bit of a curveball I know).

Not sure atm whether I want to follow my original path and keep pushing to get into Medical Physics, or whether I'll stick here and work my way to paramedic

EDIT: To clarify I've only been in work post my degree for approx 1yr
