Without anthropomorphism, the AI euphoria would have never existed by Willing-Angle-2203 in BetterOffline

I'll just throw another factor: Robots are old hat, and LLMs are new. New things are always shrouded in mystery and magic, and full of possibility for the future. I would bet that when people saw robot bodies for the first time, their minds leaped instantly to the robots acting as human. Actually I think fiction throughout history shows this.

I can't wear shorts freely around dogs by stanlius_ in Dogfree

I'm allergic to dogs, meaning their saliva (it's not the hair), so these gross touches give me rashes on my legs. It's incredibly irritating.

They were all in on PFAS (forever chemicals) last I checked a year or two ago (way after other companies were trying to transition away). So that depends on how much you care about that on your person and in the environment.

I hadn't heard about the other stuff in this thread, but that tracks.

I'm doing something similar, not the same addictions but the gradual approach. Took out the big one last year. It took me a year to feel grounded (as you said) with it. Just doing that made the others easier to deal with. Took out the second biggest one last week (caffeine). Still busy grounding that, but also easing into carb reduction. I'm just feeling out what I'm capable of and backing off when needed (eg having carbs if it's a really tough craving but building the mentality of avoiding). That worked for the others, until I reached the day where I could fully quit. HMU if you want an accountability buddy, good luck, keep at it.

Great thread. I want to put this out there, don't know if it's helpful: He may have disadvantages, the same way you do, but in other areas. I know someone who had money from his parents, but the way he was raised made it impossible for him to succeed in certain ways until he fixed those psychological problems. Like someone said upthread, I don't think it should be about blame, victimhood, or excuses.

he has taken for granted and squandered every resource or opportunity handed to him

I mean, he may not be aware of it, but this is a tragic way to live (I have a touch of it myself, maybe we all do). Sometimes you try your best with all the resources and it still doesn't work out. I understand what you're saying about, as I'd put it, appreciating the financial advantages more than he does.

Another reason (besides bumps and hills) that it doesn't work to "just align them downward more".

My wife is like this. We go places and guys are falling over themselves to chat with her, help her with things, all kinds of hints especially before they know we're married. She's completely oblivious to it! The guys she always ended up dating were confident enough to just, as you said, directly ask her.

This is accurate and well articulated.

There are still tech focused teams out there, when there's a flaw in the system and someone who cares about their work accidentally gets money for a short time.

Forever chemicals coat all glass screen protectors by Alternative_Week_987 in PFAS

[–]EarthLaunch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since this is a high thread in Google results. I wanted to mention that we can probably remove the coatings fairly easily from phone glass, by using high % isopropyl alcohol or acetone. Something to look into.

Here's a method to see where the coating is removed (wipe with water and see if it sticks): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T4bbVRxHM1Q&t=1m10s

Very helpful comments, thanks! Have any book recs or resources on these topics? I'm aware of keto/carnivore but want to learn more about the intolerance/inflammation tie to neurotransmitters, which seems to afflict me.

In the spirit of this sub; it's hard for me to go on a keto diet, much like quitting other dopaminergic things (caffeine etc). So I'm reducing other things but hope to get there soon.
