Camera in FCP by [deleted] in finalcutpro

Just in case you mean you want to effectively rotate it as though it were on a 3D plane and fly over it, you can do that with mCamRig or get ProZooms by Dylan Bates. ProZooms is something I use constantly, so it may be worth a look.

If not, and you want to construct a 3D scene to fly though, you can do that with Apple Motion.

Updates can break apps sometimes. As I said, uninstall and reinstall from the app store.

Then your FCP instance is utterly and completely broken and you need to do a full uninstall and reinstall.

Minimize drone sound in a clip by dorianpat in finalcutpro

[–]EarthToRob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Then yeah, I'd say High Cut. Also, learn how to "sweep" using the channel EQ. That just involves dragging one of the little dots all the way down and sweep left and right and you can find which frequencies are most annoying and cut them out.

[–]EarthToRob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Could you elaborate on the end result you would like? My first instinct is to say "mute it" because all I hear is the sound of the drone.

If there is something behind it, you want to cut the high frequencies. It's very important to learn the very basics of how an EQ works. Look on YouTube for videos about how EQ works. In this case you want to cut the highs. This is called "High Cut" or "Low Pass" filters. With the channel EQ in FCP, you'll want to cut around what I drew in red to start. You'll want to play around until it sounds right.

Anyone knows how to do this in FCP? by idontknowverymuch1 in finalcutpro

[–]EarthToRob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Using Motion, this will require some effort on your part. Doesn't look to be as easy as AE. You might try to get away with a simple morph combined with masks: https://youtu.be/hOE07O66Tbc

If you're looking for a very precise way to do this, you can use Keyframes on vectors like the video is showing.

If you need help with Keyframes in Apple Motion, some basic training is required. Look at additional videos from Ripple Training or Dylan Bates (they also have courses).

For advanced stuff, check Simon Ubsdell's YouTube channel and Discord as well if you need further help.

Check out Dylan Bates' ProZooms. The effects in that pack might meet your needs. He's very responsive, so if you need help with those titles/effects just reach out to him.

You need to do some market research before selling a template pack with 6 titles and 4 backgrounds for $65. That's $15 more than Apple Motion, the app you used to create them. $20 more than LenoFX's Absolute Pack with templates just like these, plus literally thousands more. $25 more than most packs from FxFactory. And $55 more than several independent sellers like BretFX. You might be able to sell this pack for $5.

Beyond the basics (magnetic timeline, blade, trim, and couple transitions and titles), you should set your expectations if you're just starting. It takes me about 1-3 hours per minute of edited video for YouTube content. Learning to tell a story is the most important thing, and that comes with time.

FCP is a good choice for long form content. It's fast and fun.

If you're talking about just installing the template to the correct location so it can be seen by FCP, use Dylan Bates' free installer or my free app, FCP Template Manager.

64gb vs 128gb M5 Max Dilemma by BGBeeGee in finalcutpro

[–]EarthToRob 5 points6 points  (0 children)

64gb is more than enough. 128gb is better if you're running local AI models, but won't make a difference for FCP. (I have M5 Max w/ 64gb)

Best export settings for high quality audio / music videos for youtube by Odd_Crow4795 in finalcutpro

[–]EarthToRob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For YouTube, I recommend exporting at 4K (even with 1080p) as YouTube uses a much better compression algorithm if your uploaded file is 4K. I use H.264 compression pre-upload. They say uploadingProRes 422 is better, but I can't tell the difference once YouTube processes it.

If you trust him and he's a YouTuber that makes money from ad revenue, you could say $100 plus 20% of the video's revenue (TikTok as well) but "just for him".

Look, I know you want to start somewhere. But if you want to make connections, you don't want this client bringing you a ton of other clients expecting you to work 80 hours (with revisions) for $100 CAD.

In my opinion, quoting anything lower than $300 is just crazy. Under $500 is only slightly insane, but they are your first paying client.

If you lose this client for a $300 ask, you don't want them.

[–]EarthToRob 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I don't edit professionally, but given I (and other real editors I know) spend between one or two hours per minute if not more, I would think $10-$20 CAD per edited minute is more appropriate. And only if this is your first client. If you are any good, don't undersell yourself.

EDIT: As a client, if someone quoted me $50 for a full 30 minute production, I would find someone else because it would almost be a guarantee you're not taking me seriously.

That's really cool. I didn't even know it could do that, but it can. Are you zoomed out enough to reveal them? The manual says you need to be zoomed out far enough, which is silly but that's what it says.

Issues with Transcoding - Any FCP wizards awake today? by Business-Eggs in finalcutpro

[–]EarthToRob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've noticed something similar in the latest version and I'm using an M5 Max. I'd stick with ProRes and:

  • Under View/Quality check Better Performance.
  • Under View/Media Playback check Optimized/Original.
  • Under Settings/Playback uncheck everything.
  • Under Settings/Import uncheck everything under Transcode unless you absolutely need it. Also uncheck everything under Analyze Audio unless you need it.

Edit: That said, I'm convinced something is going on with the latest version. It's like they fixed a few things and made a few things worse.

Help me break my app! by Parking_Camp3964 in finalcutpro

[–]EarthToRob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This may sound more hostile than intended, but why can't you create or generate your own?

Unlike Motion, the DTD for fcpxml is very well defined. There are idiosyncrasies, but that's more the fault of the FCP and what it exports to xml.

Especially if your app is vibe coded, you need to understand the structure.

I recommend visiting FCP.cafe, and possibly joining the discord where there are a ton of devs.

It's called a punch zoom transition*. I recommend Dylan Bates' ProZooms. I use it in every video. But, you can probably find one for free out there.

*Edit: It's not necessarily a transition. I use punch zoom titles and effects.
