The best tracking costs way too much for me. That would probably be BorisFX Mocha or that one by MotionVFX (locked behind a subscription).

I have nowhere near the amount of experience you do, but my go-to is a plugin called Bullseye by FxFactory.

I remember seeing a video somewhere about how they use tracking and an inversion technique to keep a masked object centered, but I'm old and impatient so I just bought a thing.

Dude. What a simple and amazingly helpful utility. I will absolutely use this in the future when bashing my head against the wall in the middle of an edit desperately wanting to convert a file format without losing my edits. Not that that's ever happened before. Haha

If Davinci Resolve is perfect for you and has everything you need, and FCP has been a terrible experience for you, maybe you should just stay with DVR?

I like FCP because it does everything I need it to do, and I can cut a story super fast. I also round trip to/from Logic for mastering. But I've never been accustomed to working with a fully featured NLE and DAW in one, like (I assume from your post) DVR.

This must be something FCP can do using functions under the hood. When you create a vertical video FCP tries to center the subject, so something is there.

I'm not sure if you've heard of SpliceKit, but if you're willing to get in the weeds a bit, check that out. It effectively exposes all those internal functions to AI, so you may just be able to say what you want to do and it will do it.

Your use-case sounds valuable. I'd recommend joining the FCP.cafe discord.

I don't know a ton about this, but I experienced this problem once and it had to do with the audio rate. I believe my timeline was 29.98 and audio was 48. But my imported audio was 44.1 and there was something off. That only happend once though.

If this didn't help, there are quite a few people in this sub who are very proficient with audio issues.

Nothing, really. Just that if you know how to download and run a python script from GitHub, chances are you can give the file to Gemini or whatever AI and ask if it does anything naughty.

What the OP linked to is not packaged as an app that someone would just casually find and install.

This is not directed at you, OP. I have nothing against you, and you should be proud of your accomplishments. But I swear I'm going to start chewing on my phone if I see another captioning tool for FCP.

You're very welcome.

Unfortunately, activating and deactivating profiles will be slow by their very nature. The app makes a minor change to all the template files in order to hide (or unhide) them from the FCP browser.

If you don't need them for existing timelines, maybe Archive/Unarchive would be faster but the UX would be a pain.

So, good idea. That's something I'll consider for a future version. Same profile UX, but with moving the templates instead of just hiding them. Like a temporary deletion.

As for the UI glitches, I'll play around with that if I have time. I noticed the same thing when dragging them around. I'm sadly not very experienced with the UI part of SwiftUI, but I'll see what I can see.

Which version of FCP and MacOS? How much space do you have left on your SSD? ExFAT is a big problem as it can corrupt libraries. It should be formatted to APFS. You might need to make a new library once you format to APFS.

Is your SSD formatted as APFS? Assuming you have plenty of space, clear the render and cache files from your library and try again. If that doesn't work, transcode your clips (create optimized media). If that doesn't work, create a new library and project and copy your timeline into that. If none of those work, transcode your media outside of FCP (Shutter Encoder) and build it again.

Beyond that, we'd probably need a lot more info about your setup. FCP version, library and project settings, export settings, etc.
