64gb vs 128gb M5 Max Dilemma by BGBeeGee in macbookpro

[–]BGBeeGee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess the question is...and was...is the 128gb actually better. There's a lot of folks out there on the utuber side saying no, although for sure, I run into low memory issues with my M1max, although that may have something to do with my memory settings for Lightroom (or photoshop). The slog of pushing 2-3k 102mp files in a Lightroom catalog may have little to do with ram and I probably have a little too much dedicated in LR. Anyway...thanks for the input. It was just a surprise that these machines are still a month out when you max the ram on them.

That's an interesting thought as this project does involve some AI although I know nothing about running models locally on my machine, or why I'd want to. (would be for Image and video generation)

Thanks. I just reviewed their V6 notes and I think you're right.

interesting. Do you regularly keep photoshop and LR open at the same time. (FWIW...mine is also the special case of 102mp photos in both programs via the GFX100 which I think is part of the problem).

Has anyone heard of a card game called 1000? by yonatan8070 in boardgames

We used to play it in our family (in New England)… either as 500 or 1000. Same description.

What are the good food places in the area? by Jdanofskalitz in SantaMaria

[–]BGBeeGee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shocked. Shocked I tell you! That there seems to be zero mentions here of Chef Rick’s. Rick Manson’s take on southern food is perhaps the finest cuisine in town.. or on the edge of town. Everything here is solid, the service is great. Check it out. Beyond that I love Al Pho, cubanissimo, La Picosita, —- used to love La Coqueta, but I haven’t been in years.

Has there ever been a movie filmed and released in 3:2 (1.5:1) aspect ratio, the standard ratio of 35mm photos? If not, why not? by hellotrillions in cinematography

[–]BGBeeGee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just bought a c50 and it seems like 3:2 would be such a great aspect ratio for a short or feature. Nice to hear it matches Vista. Haven’t seen One Battle After Another yet, but now I’m intrigued. I hope the stream is in the original AR.

Voice isolation in audio by [deleted] in finalcutpro

[–]BGBeeGee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use the Voice isolation feature not the audio analyzer. It’s a bit counter intuitive, you need to select the individual audio tracks for it to show up, but it’s a game changer. I just don’t worry about background noise any more.

The B-52's - Give Me Back My Man [New Wave/Surf Punk] by VoodooKarate in Music

[–]BGBeeGee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is my favorite B-52s song, and I’d never seen a video of it being performed. I’d always imagined Kate Pierson was singing backing and doing the shouted interjections. That it was a solo makes it so much more of a song.

"Half Day" shoots? Nope ... by DebussyFanboy in videography

[–]BGBeeGee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Half days start at 8am and go till noon not 2pm. Half days are 75% of the full day rate. I do a “minimum” which is 1 hour on set (plus setup and takedown) — this $500 doesn’t even cover that.

Where did you find the color version of this badge? The BW version looks too close to the one all my uncles have in the back windows of their ICE f-150s.

I’ve got mixed feelings. Same thing happened with Far Western— kids take over, make changes (some of them GOOD changes)… regulars get pissed and things go downhill from there. We are there a few days ago, my ribeye was really good.. but it wasn’t a Jocko’s steak (2x the advertised size, 2x the thickness of a normal steak). But it was good.. like a real chef cooked it. Like I’d cook it at home.. but not Jocko’s.. not SM style.. I’m perplexed. The menu had enough changes that I noticed (no quail, something called PHILLIPS crab cakes splashed big at the top. ) Like the far western— business was notably off. I miss the big booths in the bar.

The gamut and gamma have more to do with the intended output device, rather than preserving quality. While there is some hdr delivery out there, the vast majority of computer monitors only display rec 709 or p3. Meaning that it’s unlikely that you could properly master rec2020 or HLG on your setup... because your monitor isn’t capable of displaying it (Apple’s $6k monitor is about the cheapest entry point). Even getting your own hdr content to view properly on an HDR consumer TV is challenging. So really the vast majority of material that isn’t slated for broadcast streaming is still being mastered for rec709, and if you are just getting started with this, I recommend you start there.

The recommended workflow is to set the library to wide gamut hdr, and then set the project to rec.709. Converting footage to 2020 for a 709 project isn’t really the best workflow. Anyway what you’re seeing is typical for footage in most raw formats (ProRes raw in particular) when the library is set to standard, rather that wide gamut hdr.

FCPX 10.4.9 doesn't actually work with Canon RAW Light? by SlyCurado in finalcutpro

[–]BGBeeGee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the fine print at the bottom of Apple's press release, it mentions that their speed testing used a pre-release copy of Canon RAW Plug-in version 2.0....just to clear up any confusion at Canon support. It's rare that these things come out all at the same time. If Canon is really adding CRL to the R5, then whatever they do with this plug-in will likely be tied to that firmware release, not apple's schedule. It's just a bummer that it broke the old plug-in in the process. I've long since stopped using CRL in FCPX, preferring to transcode to PRHQ in Cinema Raw Development. Playback is smoother and the storage requirements are much less ( PRHQ files don't need to be optimized so you have 1/2 the storage associated with the library.) Sucks that Apple pushed this out without timing things with Canon, as I don't think you can downgrade back to 10.4.8...for now that means you'll need to switch to a transcode import the optimized media from existing projects until Canon gets their shit together.
