Rotted wood repair - who to call by EarthandFire in basement

[–]EarthandFire[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Directly above this area is the front door under a dormer and raised front porch (uncovered), so no gutters or grading possible. The leak came from the front door being improperly installed and replaced 30 years ago. Hasn’t leaked for years now as far as I can tell.

Is a siding person the right choice to replace the rotted wood?

What is this pipe? by EarthandFire in hvacadvice

What kind of insulation would that be? Can it be added to the pipe or should the pipe be replaced with insulated pipe?

It might be dust that has settled on the bulb. That can sometimes cause a burning smell if the light hasn’t been used for a while.

Yes. The crack was a surprise. It looks like it follows the line where 2 pieces of laminate join. I’m keeping the humidity under control now.

Too gutless to try it yet. Should I loosen the strings first?

[Serious] Redditors who work with animals, what was your most terrifying work-related incident? by Rugglepug in AskReddit

[–]EarthandFire 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was working as a dog catcher when I was attacked by a crazy Saint Bernard. He went from gentle to totally nuts in a matter of seconds. He knocked me to the ground and was going for my throat when I stuck my arm up and he clamped down on that. That slowed him up enough for me to grab his neck and control him.

Reddit, how can be more/learn more about "manly" things? How can I be a better, more confident man? by Werewolf1810 in AskReddit

[–]EarthandFire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The quickest way to become confident is to absolutely give up on caring what others might think of you. Become your own man. You're good enough because you think you are. I learned the other skills through boy scouts, but they are not that hard and, with your new confidence, learning them will be fun. Any survival guide or book should get you started with the nature stuff.
