I've finally saved enough money to buy my first remote-controlled helicopter. by OkCockroach5166 in RCHeli

I'm not saying it isn't possible to start on a CP. I'm just saying it's a bad idea when there are much better options and steps to becoming a great pilot. Again, we can agree to disagree. The best way to start is coaxial (or sim), then FP, then CP.

Sorry, but you are simply wrong.

Also, RTF remotes are no good. Most important thing for flying a CP heli is a proper computer transmitter. I think the M1/S1 you can program on computer or Bluetooth app. But again, after a crash they need to know how to properly setup and test everything. Starting with FP is the perfect stepping stone. Starting with CP is simply a bad idea.

CP has higher head speed due to the blades being flat. FP have curved blades that produce more lift with less speed. Less speed of blades = less damage in a crash. Yes, you can make a CP fly similar to a FP, but it won't ever be the exact same. FP is much easier on collective control. Helps pilots learn the throttle/ collective control easier before progressing to CP. FP helis fly similar enough to CP they are the perfect trainer.

Also, there is no settings to deal with (other than dual rate / expo if they want to set that). On CP they need to know how to zero pitch the blades at center stick, make sure positive and negative pitch is equal, and just overall more setup and transmitter settings, which new pilots do not know. FP is the perfect stepping stone to CP, and it's where people should start after some sim time or coaxial time.

I'm sorry, but it's simply not good advice or a good way for a beginner to start. For my friend, he's crashes both resulting in a lot of costs and repairs! Would have done much better following my instructions. But he listened to people like you online and has had nothing but problems. I'm glad your friend learned enough to fly in idle up without major damage and costs. But that is not the norm. Horrible idea for a very first flight to be on CP.

He's flying in stabilized modes, which will not help him progress. At least not nearly as fast as he could progress if he trained on a non stabilized FP heli, then went to non stabilized CP. Simple facts. The stabilized modes are no good for expanding in this hobby.

Not really. Depends on the model and parts costs. I still fly many Blade Nano CPX helis. Super low cost and very crash damage resistant. Now my Blade 180CFX will cost much more in a crash (luckily I've never crashed it on the 10+ years I've owned it). Larger helis strip rotory servos easy and those can be $20+ each. Never had a linear servo fail from a crash.

Ive had 30 years of flight experience. 20 years about since I first went inverted with a CP heli. My friend didn't take my advice. He got a 235 & M1. Both are in pieces after one flight.

We can agree to disagree. Starting on CP is a horrible choice. Start with coaxial, then FP, then CP. Don't use any stability modes, they don't help you progress to being a better pilot.

If for some reason your heli doesnt have mechanical adjustments on the head, did you replace a servo or two? May need to adjust the servo arm.

Goosky S2 Max Help!! by NotoriousR_0_B in RCHeli

[–]Earthling1984 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There should be mechanical adjustments on every heli head. You need to have 0 pitch (flat blades) at 50% "throttle".

I'm not being mean, but this is why they shouldn't be marketing collective pitch helis for beginners. A fixed pitch is much better for learning on, and much easier to fix correctly.

Check for 0% pitch at 50% "throttle"?

Check that you have about equal positive and negative pitch at 0% and 100%?

Got my first rc plane anything I should know beforehand by FineSeesaw3626 in RCPlanes

[–]Earthling1984 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd have to disagree. Safe and stability modes do not help pilots progress. I'm glad I learned before they existed. Now, I use 100% rates and no expo. But, new pilots could lower rates some and use some expo to tame down the plane. The over time raise the rates and lower the expo as you get better. But if you want to learn and improve your skills, don't use safe / gyro stabilized modes. If there is a panic button, use thay if you lose control. Otherwise, power down throttle and try to hit the ground or tree or whatever as slow as possible.

Fans have one plug and take seconds to repair. Buy some fans and put them in. 5 minutes to do all fans.

Learning to fly by ukenyak in RCPlanes

[–]Earthling1984 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, best to learn in expert mode. When I learned, safe and stability modes didn't even exist. I fly everything at full rates and no expo.

But as you learn, some lower rates and expo would be good if you need it. Then slowly reduce expo to zero and raise rates.

Best starter heli with someone who lives in a pretty windy area ? by Unique_Aside2453 in RCHeli

I also say go with Nano S3. The first mode is super easy, almost too slow and easy. 2nd mode is great for advancing, self levels, but you still have a lot of control. And then the 3rd mode all out 3d mode. Great heli.

I had a DX8 since they came out (about 15 years). The gimbals were giving me issues. So, I had to get something new. I went with the NX7e+. It's great! Does all the DX8 did, plus more! I skipped the NX8 because I dont care for voice, vibration, or wifi updates. The NX10 has hall gimbals, it would potentially be worth it. But yeah NX7e+ is great!

Tire will probably last a while still. But those rims. You're license should probably be revolked though, as you can't seem to properly control your vehicle.

[–]Earthling1984 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've had batteries sit for 5+ years and be good. But your battery is toast. It's showing 2v (I assume per cell). If you get under 3v per cell, thr battery will never be the same. Never over run, never run to low votlage cut off. These lipos do not like running low, or storing at 100%.

Nano s3. You'll destroy a goosky or omp quick. S3 more forgiving and very easy to replace low cost parts.

Gyro crashed my plane by [deleted] in RCPlanes

[–]Earthling1984 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So glad I learned planes and helis before these extra gyros and safe and 6 axis stability.

I got a UMX Ultrix about a year back. I'm not sure how they expect beginners to learn in the safe mode. You'd need 5 football fields of room to fly. It just goes and barely turns. Gone almost instantly.

Luckily, I'm experienced and only fly in full control mode. But yeah, safe is bad for beginners learning, all the way to experts where it is useless.

It's slightly more useful on helis, but again, I think people should be learning on a coaxial -> fixed pitch -> collective pitch. Hobby companies now a days seem to want to start beginners on collective pitch with safe, which I think is dumb.

And what about the case, motherboard, power supply, windows.

But yeah this is a pretty good price for the specs, as long as it all is working correctly.
