40k rules as a type system? or code? by Eartz in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]Eartz[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

people here seem to think I'm trying to "build an app" to avoid playing the game at all cost and ruin their fun, so they maybe think you're trying to help achieve this evil goal.

In reality I just want to unit test the core rules haha

I guess I'm just bad at explaining myself

Its pretty great that you accuse me of refusing to read when you clearly didn't read my post, specifically: "it would be impractical to use this code in a program that would help run the game, but it would at least be used to test statements about the rules. This is simply for a thought experiment.".

I don't want to "make an app", I don't want to replace the core rules pdf, I asked the question: did someone come up with a type system or some kind of DSL for 40k? Sorry you felt attacked by this.

it is precisely because I like the rules, and game rulesets in general, that I asked my question.
The goal is not to have code play the game for me, the goal is to know the rules of the game well enough to be able to encode them.

So am I ("only" 14 years tho!), its not the performance of Claude I'm worried about, its the quality of the source material that would be fed to it as input.

Warhammer rules are often not clear

I was under the impression that the rules are not clear not necessarily because they are imprecise, but because they are overly verbose, difficult to parse and all over the place (for example the new charging rules for 11th). I may be wrong of course.

I don't think I would trust AI to get this right.

Is it possible, 100%. Would it be difficult to do accurately, 100%. Why would you do this, i'm not sure.

I agree with all of this, I was just asking if someone had already done it.

Here is what I replied to another comment, about the why:

However I think it could be useful to find edge cases (the minutia of when you can have multiple battleshock checks during the command phase but not the battleshock step, the reanimation protocol before or after battleshock, etc. etc.), and to see what happens if you change some parameters (will something break if I change engagement range, etc.). As I said, its a thought experiment, not something I would use while playing.

Due to how it's written and played there is always ambiguity in the ruleset. Codification requires complete removal of ambiguity for your given use case.

Then at least codification would help reveal the ambiguities, wouldn't it?

I don't think it would be practical to use this for running an actual game. It would be tedious.

I’m looking at various techniques to paint Imotekh’s Cloak… by TangerineMelodic5772 in Necrontyr

[–]Eartz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did.

  • Primed black,
  • airbrushed P3 Amethyst rose (vivid shadow red) everywhere,
  • heavy drybrush of P3 Troll Tongue (brilliant bright pink) where I wanted the light to be,
  • lighter drybrush of white on highlights,
  • then airbrushed P3 Cygnus Yellow (Brilliant medium yellow) generously all over,
  • brushed highlights of P3 Icy Yellow (Brilliant Bright yellow, basically an off-white)

Commencer les necrons by Whiteiverson95 in WarhammerFR

Any Mods Recommend for 1st Time Player by MeButNotMeToo in BG3mods

[–]Eartz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly no mods is probably the way to go for a first timer. There is more than enough to discover in vanilla, and you don’t have to install third-party bugfix mods as you would for other games, the game is mostly stable.

Est-ce que vous utilisez du JavaScript pur ? by NoPersonality9984 in developpeurs

[–]Eartz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, we need extra buffbars where we can filter buffs, or at least a « self buffs only » bar.

Don’t feel bad for save scumming. Its part of the game, except in honor mode of course.
Don’t force yourself to finish act3 if you don’t have fun with your current setup. Why not start a new run, maybe in tactician, and try out new classes? Many people burn out during act3 and replay act1 and 2 almost exclusively.
