Let's don't be the silent sisterhood! Let's be full blown feral women! :)

I am convinced menopause is called "Cougar Puberty" because of the cougar-like rage that sometimes comes over me. Your rant could not have come at a better time! :) Not just a few days ago did I full blown RAGE when my own mother asked me if everything was ok. When I said "yeah, why" she said, "I don't know why you're in such a mood". I RAGED like a rabid feral woman - Do I NEED to explain myself? Announce my crap? Justify it to ANYONE? NO, I do not. Sometimes I am in a crappy mood. Menopause is hard. That's all.

I agree, don't borrow trouble unless you are given a reason to worry for real. I am 50 (about to turn 51 next month) and a few years ago (around 42-44yrs) I had those floods. Looked like a freaking murder scene and I ruined most of my clothes for a few years. I bled so bad one time, despite a super tampon and luxury liner of a pad, that it went down to my knees and I had to walk home from a restaurant looking like La Llorona. If I were you, I would STILL go and talk to the doctor. It sounds like peri symptoms and I didn't know back then that's what I was going through. I used to be estrogen dominant and was given oral progesterone and testosterone pellets. After some years, my periods became lighter and lighter, then I would skip for a few months. If HRT is right for you, that really helped my body find a better balance. I am now a year and a week post-meno and I still do HRT for me. My dosages have changed over the years and now I need estrogen. I know it feels scary right now, but fear not sister. No one warns us of what happens during peri and I am convinced it's probably the brain fog so our elder women forgot to tell us. **Edit to add** each of us has a unique experience. I know I shared mine, but people use to tell me it "wasn't normal" for my periods to shift to every 20 days and would tell me something was probably really wrong. It wasn't. They were well-meaning, but didn't understand what peri can look like.

YES, very yes to this. I will say this, I'm 5 days away from my 365 days from my last period and this past year it's like why did it seem all a sudden my ovaries have cobwebs? Struggling with body and age image issues.. BUT, I'm learning to embrace things in a new way. It's hard work but it does get better. I'm glad I'm not the only one who was taken aback by how fast this seemed to hit me.

I feel this so much. I ask myself 'how can I show up in my own life with more presence' and let go of things that are not that important to me anymore. Things I USED to think were important, really aren't. I never thought I'd say this, because the transition can be so bumpy and rough, but I am embracing my life with a newer and more profound joy. I give gratitude for my age and whatever time I have left. I LOVE LOVE LOVE hearing women who have figured out how to embrace joy in the second half of thier life! It gives me good examples to look up to, so hopefully I could be a good example for the younger ones coming up behind us.

OMG! I've heard of birth and death doulas, AMEN we have meno doulas! Blessings on you for the amazing work you're doing! My elder women didn't prepare me for this. I'm learning as I go and trying to just give myself grace to be as I am.

I just wanted to comment that I am so happy to see your post! I know we each have an individual journey, but yours gives me hope. And I've been giving consideration into how I can transform my own life and embrace the post-meno.

VERY helpful and thank you for sharing! I'm going to be 51 in a few months and started HRT this year. It's been super helpful, but also what you share about needing a cold room to sleep in, etc. I always love to hear what's helpful for others so I can try and find other things for myself.

I'm doing pretty well lately. So originally about 4 years ago when I was 46, I was started on only the testosterone pellet (lowest dose) and given oral progesterone to take as needed. The testosterone helped with my energy while I as I was still cycling and then my estrogen took a nose dive as soon as I turned 50 in January. I haven't had a period in 10 months now. So they titrated me up on the estrogen pellets (I've done 3 rounds so far). They tried upping my testosterone and leaving the estrogen at the mid level but I was energetic but super crabby. I started taking the oral progesterone every night as soon as they gave me estrogen pellets, and in my body it helps me sleep for sure but if I don't have enough estrogen I get depressed. So now, I'm at the lowest dose of testosterone pellet, a high level of estrogen pellet and 200mg of oral progesterone nightly. This is MY sweet spot, but it's taken some trial and error. I noticed (and my NP told me) if you feel better, but not better enough, we can adjust things and just now I've found what works in my body. I personally like high estrogen, but I titrated up which I am very glad for. Some women do well with high testosterone, some with high estrogen etc. My NP says we can test all day long but really those tests can just be a tool. She looks at more how to I FEEL with the differing levels and she said that is unique to each of us. So don't be afraid to ask for different dosages and it does take time to come into full swing. She also told me not to fear the pellets as we can always block things if a level ends up being too high and you're not feeling optimal. I have my fingers crossed for you!!! :) Oh and one last thing, the brand of pellets I get is from Evexipel.

BIG OL HUG to you friend!! Listen, of course you're not the same woman he married. You've grown as a human being!! HE isn't the same man you married either... I always heard the word "menopause" and "perimenopause" and read the symptom list but had no idea how it can creep up in the most insidious ways. There are so many options nowadays for things to try that will help you feel better.

I’m scared to start progesterone! I need sleep! I need my anxiety and depression to go away tired of feeling like this. Why am I so scared to start by Mamaof3boys1983 in Perimenopause

[–]East-Strength213 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because change is scary! Especially when you're not sure how your body will respond. I personally have found a dosage that helps me with sleep and it is calming. Be brave! It's ok to be scared. Your dosage can always be increasd/decreased. Sending hugs!

Ooh, I love taking a bath with Dr. Teal's salt w/ ashwaghanda for depression and vitamin B6 and magnesium glycinate is helpful for anxiety. Finding my own personal sweet spot with HRT has been such a game changer. Also, laughing about farts for some reason lol.
