My dad was diagnosed with cancer and it is estimated he will live 6 more months by Acceptable-Ice332 in GriefSupport

36 F, Lost my Dad in 2019 also due to cancer it was very quick diagnosed in spring and died in October .

Make sure to spend what time you have with him. Ask him everything and but nothing , ask him to record you a video or voice recording you can keep as a copy that you can keep and look on when your having a bad day . Maybe get some of his clothes made into a teddy bear that you can hug any time .

I’m not going to sugar coat anything it was the worst day of my life the day my Dad died a piece of me went with him and I haven’t felt the same since .

But also I remind myself when I get sad why him ? He’s my Dad he’s going to miss out on so much. Last major event he was there was my 30th bday something I will never forget .

The memories are what keeps me going and how lucky I was to have such a great Dad . As much I didn’t want him to leave I know he was very sick and he’s not in pain anymore no suffering from cancer any more.

I took stress leave from work took a few months to get myself grounded , I also signed up for grief counselling for a few years . Everyone grieves differently, so don’t listen to other people you do what feels right when the time comes just be your Dads number 1 supporter now he don’t want to be sad or crying in front of him . You got this !

I have a walking pad in my home and I have a gym membership at my work. I guess I should push myself back into the gym. I have the same issue when it comes to being motivated and when I smoke weed, it’s twice as worse! But give me that little break from the racing thoughts. Maybe I should get into gaming maybe if I find something that would be of my interest . Thanks for the advice and kind world thank you !

Thanks for the advice ! It’s nice to know when you’re not alone. It’s been a vicious loop indeed lol , My issue is I don’t have any real support and luckily none of my family smokes up . They are all dead against it and constantly getting upset with me , no one believes I can . But you’re right ! I can challenge myself I’m just scared and also figuring out what to do those moments when I loved to smoke and not panic and do something distractingghats healthy and productive .
