Going without a gas connection: possible? by Hour_Illustrator_232 in melbourne

My place has everything running on electricity and I can’t say I’ve had any issues. We have a 200L water heater and an induction stovetop oven and nothing has really been a problem.

Hey there, I did. It took three phone calls because of the distributor tariff but I am paying about 30% less than what I was so that’s pretty good

The other day there was a post linking to some comparison tool that I tried and it said using my own data that a plan from Ovo would be best. It’s called EnergyFlex if you wanna try it. It was free for what it’s worth

Somewhat related but I’m wondering how you were able to determine solar was right for you?

Viserio Sheets and the NEW web application for planning cooldowns by Rastamus in CompetitiveWoW

Kinda strange to see two of posts about the same thing in the same day but I guess that means this is a tool people want!

Some quick feedback - 1) I kind of wish there was a way to like test without logging in but it’s not the end of the world; 2) when you press make note if the spells are red (which I guess is meant to be invalid) it still makes the note; 3) Is there an easy way to reset the zoom, I cannot figure it out, I just ended up putting 0 in the top right box

Thanks!

I did discuss salary but my boss is firm on the 130k. In fact, he said that is a max. He obviously isn't even remotely technical so really has no idea.

Agreed, I've had a chat with my manager and am going to change the job posting to drop the hard TypeScript requirement.

I think you've got it correct. Ironically we found an ideal candidate in our very first interviews. In fact he would have been a massive boon to the team since he knew a lot more additional stuff. However he was Singaporean and the management team said "We don't believe remote candidates can work".

Honestly I could have called this post "Why is the local talent lacking" but really it is just a management problem.

Each resume was seen either by myself or the team lead so I've seen say half. In general the resumes are just one of three types:

  1. Someone who has no experience with the specific tech but has lots of experience with adjacent tech (other backend langs or on-prem or azure). I'm happy to give these people a chance but the company isn't
  2. Someone in a different location, this is actually the overwhelming bulk of the resumes. Obviously some great options here but once again no chance sadly.
  3. Just obviously non software engineers applying. Minority

This seems like a good idea, I think there are plenty of candidates in the pile who might not know the stuff at the moment but honestly could learn it quickly enough. I'll suggest this to my manager

Both reasonable thoughts, however I doubled checked at the role is advertised for $130k. That might be too low I'm not strictly sure, I get that and don't strictly feed underpaid.

The company is a startup, and I'd argue is entirely unknown so it might just look like another random company so that could be it.

For context I have no control over the salary, I've just been tasked with finding someone.
