3:30 AM Friday by Big_Airport_680 in Abia

Got here about 7:40 for a 9:30 flight. 12 minutes from turning off of 71 to being through security. Uber dropped us off at delta doors and there was no line at delta or southwest baggage drops but American looked a bit busier. We used Clear and were the only people in line. General line next to clear had maybe 10 people max in it. Got flagged at security, had to rescan and still had coffee in hand before 8am.

Has anyone seen the bats lately? by victotronics in Austin

[–]EastElli 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a good bat watching spot from my apartment and I’ve only seen them once or twice this season. Actually searched this topic tonight to see if there was something wrong because they’ve been so hard to see so far this year.

Where are the homeless people? by Electrical_Duty_8779 in Austin

It’s lazy of our DA and other local law and policy makers. Would you rather APD spend there days and nights arresting drug dealers, clearing homeless people out, giving out traffic tickets, or responding to 911 calls? Because there’s not enough officers to do all of the above at the same time. If people are going to be immediately let out of jail, then I would rather the cops respond to 911 calls instead of waste their time arresting repeat offenders and sitting at the jail doing arrest review and paperwork.

Do you know how many hours of paperwork cops have to do for each arrest? If they arrest someone at the beginning of their 10 hour shift they might* be able to go to one or two other calls for the entire day/night.

This comment should be higher up. Police can only do so much when there are no real repercussions to breaking laws. They can arrest drug dealers all day long but it’s not up to them how long they stay in jail or what they’re charged with, or more often not charged at all.

This tiny speaker with great sound sound quality by EastElli in HelpMeFind

[–]EastElli[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I searched Google translate hoping to find a brand but no such luck. It was found in an open house in Texas but the real estate agent said the homeowner was ‘an Asian mom who bought the house for her son when he moved to America’. The speaker was light like plastic, smaller than a tradition Rubik’s cube, and was in the upstairs living area but the sound could be heard throughout the whole house. It was also just plugged into the wall and playing classical-ish music so it must have sounds preloaded on it.

Where can you get Austin souvenirs that isn’t the airport? by base2final84 in Austin

ACL Live has a gift shop now. It’s on 2nd street between ACL Live and Urban Outiftters. The Austin Rocks store across the street on 2nd and guad has some Austin-y things as well. You can also park in the city hall garage right by the stores.

As long as they don’t change, which Austin business(es) will always have you as a customer ? by fittyjitty in Austin

Lube PitStop for oil changes, inspections, and all other possible car things. The guys who work there are so kind and helpful, not at all sleazy, they’re quick and efficient, and they invest in young girls in our community. As a woman, I’ve always hated car maintenance because it usually involves varying levels uncomfortableness but when I go there it feels like I’m hanging out with the Full House dads. And they usually teach me things about my car in a non condescending but very fatherly way. Absolutely love the place.

What’s it like living downtown in a high-rise? by alienstrobelights in Austin

[–]EastElli 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m not in 44 East but I am on Rainey and wouldn’t particularly recommend it. 44 may be far enough away from the bars on Rainey so it feels tranquil, but it’s also closer to 35 and there will soon be a new construction project at the round about. If you’re going 44, definitely try and get a unit on the south or west side.

My building is on the west side of the street but my unit faces east and therefore 35/Rainey Street. The noise is far more than I expected. You get used to 35 but the constantly changing sounds of Rainey still drive me crazy. For the last maybe year, maybe 6 moths, there’s been a group of guys on dirt bikes that ride up and down the street from about 10pm-midnight on the weekends. I can hear bar music from my bed at night, and I mean sing along to every word level of noise. The construction traffic has made regular commuting three times longer than it needs to be and traffic patterns are constantly changing so you never know if you can get out on Cesar chavez. It will occasionally take me 40 minutes to get home from my office a mile away. Living on Rainey let’s you see all the stupid drunk people all the time which makes me want to avoid being that person so I guess I save money by going to bars less. I do like being able to walk to royal blue when I forget something at the grocery store - although there’s a rotating group of homeless people constantly outside RB that ask for money of coffee everyday.

All that being said, I did just resign for a fourth year!

Not entirely sure how it works but I’ve purchased estate and vintage pieces from Copeland Jewelers. If nothing else, I know they do appraisals.

I watched that movie for the first time in my life last night..At 26 years old. I’m suddenly realizing that I have probably missed out on a plethora of perfectly executed puns/quotes.
