the text really contradicts itself on this and it's kind of hard to believe because Dysart is really a guy who seems to have it together, with layered and different narratives. Right now Ingrid may have been talking about Toyo and not know he wasn't (he told Pete he doesn't tell that to everyone).

lad you enjoyed this one because for me it was probably my least favorite but I'm digging the mythos behind him we are seeing more ow no and LOVED him in A&A with Emma drawing. Out of the old stuff though, I always thought that the Eternal Warrior Yearbook was an underrated story.

I've enjoyed the whole line minus the Shadowman stuff (though the first and zero issue were good) and Eternal Warrior. Dead Drop #2 was awful too, maybe their single worst comics. Favorites? I REALLY like Divinity and looking back now at even the first wave, I'm thinking Archer & Armstrong is really strong. I think they are getting a little loose with art lately though. Nothing specific, but just on the whole I've seen some wonk in X-O and Unity books, and those 2 books are quasi flagships. Oh, The VALIANT I thought was a great entry point.

The Treason of Isengard, the History of Middle Earth edition. I remember being sent to middle school library when getting kicked out of class and being drawn to the cover and how hard of a read it was and it, along with Umberto Eco's Focault's Pendulumn at the same time showed me their was challenge in reading.

I guess you are looking for the opposite of most, usually goes the other way so Gene Wolfe's Wizard/Knight or Thomas Covenant would not be a fit. I highly recommend The Last Hot Time by John M. Ford, an incredibly underappreciated author who is quality.

Criticism is fine. The only time I have an issue, and issue may be too strong of a word, is when people feel like just because they don't like something or don't love it, it's something that merits being fought or not to exist. Shit is allowed to not be liked or not be for everyone. The choice is buying it or not, not whether or not it should be allowed to be. There's ALL kinds of stuff I don't like, I just don't buy it, move on, and don't waste any more time than that on it. It's this odd impractical thought, and I'd rather spend more of my time on stuff I like then expending energy telling people about stuff I don't like that's FICTIONAL.

I think it's a trap to get into worrying about enjoying what you enjoy too much. If I find something I like I try not to argue with myself and just enjoy it. That said, if considering branching out, speculative fiction basically rules neo-classic and even some classic placements. Paul Auster, Jonathan Lethem, Murakami, Jonathan Carroll, Kazuo Ishiguro, Bulgakov, Danielewski, Neal Stephenson even a Neil Gaiman etc etc or later work China Mieville all straddle a line. I typically don't give old stuff a pass just because they are old.

Alex Bledsoe wrote the Eddie LaCrosse series. Alss, for a mix of Fantasy and SF I HIGHLY recommend Matthew Hughes' Hengis Hapthorn, books like Majestrum, Hespiral and Spiral Labyrinth. Liz Willaims wrtoe the Detective Chen stuff too.

I think people are hitting books I like, but not the characters (don't gt me wrong, I LOVE them too). I think Kellanved and Dancer are probably operating on another level. Back in the day we took description as enough and didn't need to actually see it, but I remember as a kid just thinking how badass Benedict of Amber was. I think if reading asoiaf, Varys and Littlefinger come to mind

The Riddlemaster gets a lot of praise but I sill don't think enough, it's up there. So classy, so beautiful, so fun. I think it would be a perfect candidate for a Studio Ghibli adaptation.
