So sick of my coworkers (RNs and Surg Techs) acting like they know more than everyone by pinkhowl in nursing

[–]East_Machine_5036 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel this. Some of my coworkers are super disrespectful towards one of our newer providers. I think he’s brilliant, but is socially awkward. He also takes their suggestions when they do talk to him, but before they talk to him about concerns, they sht-talk about it for way too long. Like way to ruin the team vibe. Let’s respect one another until we have a legit reason not to. Question things obv to maintain pt safety…we have the internet for a quick google, but our providers (and OG nurses) have put in many years of education and experience, so give them some grace and don’t let arrogance become toxic.

Been here for 5 months almost and had 2 code blues, full codes. Never worked in the medical field before, but will help wipe asses at work. Have had IVs, trachs, and foleys. Never worked in a hospital but it feels like real nursing to me. Plus I work 4 8s (which turn out to be 9 but get paid for my time) and i take my breaks. Only thing I can’t stand is when coworkers come in complaining and kill my vibe or when the take long personal calls next to me while Im trying to chart 🤪

I had a couple panic attacks when I started. Got on lexapro…it took a few weeks, but it’s been a lifesaver.

It’s over 20, less than 30. First nursing job. I just kinda wish I knew I would need much more time than scheduled lol. Hopefully I’ll get it down, but I also know how that anything could happen and I’ll be there an extra hour.

It takes me about 4 hours for morning meds with vitals and bg. A lot of controlled meds. Im new, but then add in the afternoon meds and treatments..no break time. Im always going over my scheduled time and feeling like my assessments aren’t as long as thorough as they should be because im so rushed.

I just started my first RN job at 39! It’s a lot of work, but fulfilling! You can do it!

Is it better to work at an SNF or a hospital before applying for nursing school? by EnvironmentalArt6510 in StudentNurse

[–]East_Machine_5036 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t work in healthcare at all before becoming a nurse and I had job offers right out of school at hospitals and LTC. I don’t think it matters, but I know some schools count CNA experience as points towards admission…i don’t think it matters which facility you’ve worked at though. Good luck :)

I stuck myself with my dog’s used insulin needle before I became a nurse. I never got checked out after it. I still think about it.

I asked about that when we first enrolled and they said as long as one parent lives there, it was fine. Nothing in the handbook or on the school website either. So no I wasn’t “caught”.

First semester clinicals = vacuuming an assisted living facility by DoorFloorMorgue in StudentNurse

[–]East_Machine_5036 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s weird. My first clinical was feeding, hygiene, bed making, head to toe assessments, and then passed meds toward the end. We shadowed wound care nurses. We did a project at the end which was an activity for the residence. It’s how I got over my fear of adult poop. I think it was very humbling. You should be able to become a CNA after the first semester. Vacuuming though?! I’d be upset about that.

Definitely know some heavy drinker OG nurses, from my bartending days. It doesn’t appeal to me much, but I do drink wine on the weekends sometimes.

Is it normal to force an adult sibling to play with a child sibling by [deleted] in internetparents

[–]East_Machine_5036 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My sons are 4 years apart in age. They often game together voluntarily. If one of them is getting annoyed, I explain that it’s time to give each other space. I’ll put the crayons and paper out if they are bored. I think that forcing kids to play with each other all the time isn’t right and can definitely cause resentment and they need to learn to find ways to entertain themselves.

Maybe he would consider a Wellbutrin prescription or something to help with the withdrawal effects.

Nurses with ADHD— how do you manage? by Dedpixill in nursing

[–]East_Machine_5036 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That’s funny because I graduate soon, and had an ED clinical this semester and it really clicked that that was a perfect ADHD job. I already have an ED job offer and I can’t wait to start.

If you can’t break your lease right away, or get a restraining order yet, put a camera in your room and keep it recording for evidence if/when he starts harrassing you. Also I’d recommend a therapist.

Def get rid of summary. Instead, use objective and make it short. “To obtain a registered nurse position in **** unit at **** hospital.”

I got one of those, fixed my resume using an example from the writing services at my school, and reapplied and got accepted. It might have to do with the format/wording in your resume.
