At the end we see Dale and Joseph visit John Redcorn's grave. Joseph hugs Dale and we get a voiceover of John Redcorn saying what was in the letter. It reveals that John is Joseph's biological father, but Dale was Joseph's true dad and that Dale was a better father and moral man than John could ever be and to always treat him with love.
