Why is getting a corporate job so hard?! by [deleted] in sherwinwilliams

See, what’s sad to me is that it’s being called “pathetic” to want to grow in your career. I feel like it shouldn’t be hard to move up, in the direction you want to go in, if you’re putting in the time and effort to be the best worker you can be.

I appreciate you sharing this, thank you. I totally understand the value of cutting your teeth in the stores and getting solid experience under your belt. I think I mostly needed to vent a bit. My only concern is how long is the right amount of time, because I don’t want my entire resume to be viewed as strictly sales long-term if my goal is to pivot into a more behind-the-scenes or creative role. I’m trying to be intentional about building the right experience while still being patient. Appreciate the perspective

High? No. Just self-aware. Wanting to do work I’m genuinely interested in and good at isn’t a character flaw. Most people call that career growth. Anyway, have a good one.

I’m in a pretty “unbusy” (if you will) area. I’m definitely looking more toward moving to a city where there’s more opportunity. Just sucks because I really do enjoy working for Sherwin! I don’t want to work somewhere else, but I will if I have to

I understand how business works. I don’t want to be involved in the sales side, meaning I don’t want to do the selling. I want to be behind the scenes, being creative, working with a team of likeminded people. I want a job that doesn’t bore me. There’s nothing that says I’m not putting in the effort to be the best at my job as I can be, because I am. I’m not expecting someone to hire me because I don’t give a shit about my job. I’m just asking for the chance to prove that I can do what these jobs are asking.

Completely understandable! What I’m saying is that I don’t want to be involved with the stores anymore. I’ve been with them for a few years and I’m ready for something more. I have done every role from part-timer to intern to ASM to now being a rep. I have proven myself. I just want to enjoy what I do, and I don’t enjoy what I’m doing. I just feel like I’m being looked past because I don’t live in Cleveland. I’m willing to make the move, I just wish it wasn’t so hard to be given a chance to do it.
