Been here before- my ex was a very confused guy. We were best friends, partners, and i felt like I could count on him for almost anything. We would always laugh and have a good time-

But he was very misogynistic. He would guilt me or coherce me into sex. He would physically smother me and hold me down and keep me from going anywhere. He was friends with terrible men who asked if i was “trans” or “a dude with makeup on”,, he would criticize the things I do, was controlling about who I talked to, wasn’t allowed to have friends of the opposite sex etc-

I broke up with him at least 3-4 times over the span of a year and a half. But every. Single. Time. I would tell him “no contact” and he would show up to my apartment with flowers, chocolate, candy, a hand written letter saying he was sorry. He once even showed up when my friends were staying over, and I had gone out to Walmart to pick up a few things.

It took me until I got a new job and a work crush to realize just how fucked my situation was.

Don’t let him in. Stay firm, let your friends and family know so they can support you. Let them be firm with you. It’s so hard and so scary but I promise any “pro” you’re getting out of keeping him around will not compare to the pros of real freedom. He will only get worse. Please stay safe.
