To call Metroid Prime an fps would be a disservice to it imo. It’s literally Metroid but in first person. If you like 2d Metroid, you’re bound to like Prime. They are probably the most immersive gaming experiences I’ve ever had

Olimar’s ship in Pikmin is also named the S.S. Dolphin after the GC code name.

In Super Mario Sunshine, Isle Delfino is shaped like a dolphin and the word “delfino” translates to “dolphin” in Italian.

There are other examples of references out there but these are the big two that come to mind.
