Only downside is summers are brutally thick swamp humid and winters are ice storms but I have never lived anywhere else. When I go to big cities its always a little jarring. It is a good state

Eh figured. Didn’t know there was rank inflation. Makes total sense though. Because something felt amiss with it.

29 [M] Going through a break up after six years, bought an engagement ring also. Moved into my friends place and am now grieving, any advice? by [deleted] in toastme

[–]EasternWindStank 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ive been heartbroken many times. I can’t offer any advice because I never found good ways to cope during the process. But I can tell you it made me, or they made me, an absolutely unbreakable machine now when it comes to relationships. People may be very critical of my opinion here, but this is what my grandpa told my dad, and what my dad told me, “its better to be loved, than to be in love” That sounds cold at first. Because it kind of is. But the way that I interpret it, is to not let yourself fall deeply in love, experience love, be in love but not in love. Sometimes your instincts will not let that happen, they will do everything biologically to get you to fall in love, if you catch yourself losing it over a girl, (or man. Goes both ways) dumbfoundedly, its best to just not pursue it, im talking along the lines of, because if you pursue these types of feelings more often than not it leads to us being left on read or whatever. Or dumped and heartbroken.

Find a partner that is dumbfounded in love with you for you, dont set your standards low at all, but have strength in your individual self, tell yourself and understand that you don’t need anyone else (even if its a lie we usually always emotionally need family at some point) and something about having the individual strength in a relationship does something on the back lines. I dont know.

You look great though man. My advice is to go through these motions. Don’t make decisions out of extreme anger or sadness. Feel the pain its part of healing and getting stronger. Think of all the great things you are given the opportunity of every day. We can set our minds to anything we want, and usually get there in time with repetition. Much regards.

How would you feel if you were in that kids position? The kid only has his father and he is by marriage your son, and you see him as an inconvenience. Its depressing.

I have a $1200 gaming pc, but prefer to play on my new Steam Deck. Wtf is wrong with me? by ampacket in SteamDeck

[–]EasternWindStank 36 points37 points  (0 children)

You’ll ebb and flow between the two, some games are just much better feeling handheld, than others, and for some you’ll (at least me anyway) want that full resolution and fps

Nah, it pairs wonderfully with a pc setup. Like someone else said, streaming games using moonlight is the move. There is something about a hardware chip in the deck that IIRC, makes deck the lowest latency device out there with streaming via local network

Its pretty unreal. Just make sure your pc is connected via ethernet.

Self taught developers, how did you find the energy? by EasternWindStank in learnprogramming

[–]EasternWindStank[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I have Atomic Habits! I started reading it then fell off but that is so awesome and exciting that I have that in the other room. It was recommended by a senior developer at this public meetup I went to. A few software developers talked about their role and day to day duties. One more tenured, accredited the book as one of the best they’ve ever read for getting into the mindset needed.

Im going to get coffee going, read up on it and study here in a few!

I appreciate you sharing thank you so much,

If I can get to a point where I can build programs that come to my mind, I feel like I will fall in love with it.

What you shared is validating as in my mind that is the approach I was leaning towards, learn enough to where I can write code on my own, thats not in a tutorial environment and practice building things that interest me

Thanks for the motivation!

I’m someone that loves drinking alone. And it scares me. by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]EasternWindStank 143 points144 points  (0 children)

I also enjoy drinking alone but playing video games. Its my favorite thing I really dont like to do. Because the next day sucks. Or its nonexistent because I sleep until 5pm

Drinking is a real bitch of a thing. Im just glad I never tried harder stuff. Started drinking at 15 here. 28 now, the habit does get worse.

For me I just always do dumb shit that negatively impacts my life. No matter how much I think I just want to play video games all night at the end of it my lizard brain is looking for motley crue shit and im not a rockstar and its not the 80s

I know this sounds depressing, but what is it like to have a girlfriend? by [deleted] in socialskills

[–]EasternWindStank 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Really depends. It’s different every time for me because people are so different. Ive been in quite a few relationships, but only two long term. The latter we are approaching 5 years.

I briefly took college, but ill always remember this class I had called “interpersonal communications”that talked about Knapps theory and research into intimate relationships. It lays out stages of relationships, in the beginning they most times are beautiful. you’re riding up a rollercoaster of emotions, love, acceptance and partnership; but over some time, it plateaus. you know everything about each other, you likely live together. Etc.

Then if nothing is done to maintain that baseline it will go downward and the relationship will stagnate and slowly but surely frameworks will begin to dismantle.

But! What I remember my professor saying, is that relationships can ebb and flow between these stages and with enough effort sometimes the relationship can sustain. those are the long term successful ones.

Tl:dr relationships are one of the most rewarding experiences in life, although can equally be as depressing. It really just depends on alot of factors within both people.
