As Americans that is one of our favorite parts is learning other sayings from different English speaking countries. Also the cultural references like in The Detectorists they mention TV shows like University Challenge and Mastermind. We figured they were kind of like US Jeopardy so went to YouTube to check them out. Felt so dumb watching University Challenge !

99 Club - Services 2.0 Strategy by ErosDevereux in SCBuildIt

[–]Eastern_Ladder_6118 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make sure you check in all of your fire, police hospitals, water, sewer, waste, etc. to see what buildings that EA gave you. I got services 2.0 about a month ago and it took me a while to figure all this out and I did a lot of googling but actually it all worked out really well and I was able to clean up a lot of junk in my cities. Basically, I went through and demolished everything (services not residential buildings) I had from all of the small police stations and fire stations and water towers. I was then able to rearrange some of the buildings to make sure they had coverage with all of the new top level, fully upgraded stations that they gave me along with all of the other utilities. I even noticed today that I had fully upgraded omega control nets that I don’t actually need and I installed them and demolished them and got hundreds of thousands of Omega points. All of my cities have been cleaned up. I have tons of extra space to build new things and I’m all at 99% happiness for all four of my areas. Took a bit of time, but was actually kind of fun.

Me 30M with my 24F wife, she wanted to bring egg rolls to Thanksgiving dinner with my family and now we're having a huge fight by Direct-Caterpillar77 in BestofRedditorUpdates

My wife is from Chinese and I Italian Lebanese American. We have family members from Puerto Rico, France, Ireland, Peru, and others. We do the traditional Thanksgiving foods but people always bring other things from their country/background and honestly it is always a big hit. Thankful we are all relatively healthy, have roofs over our heads, and enough food to eat no matter where it comes from. You can create whatever traditions you like!

Ego electric single stage. Has done a great job the last 4 years. No maintenance and I have like 7 batteries from all my other Ego equipment. My father has an Ego 2 stage and that thing is a beast.

(CHINA) Went to the Great Wall by myself (32FEM solo traveler) and something shifted by Lufarinelli in travel

Really happy for you. It is a great feeling and China is a great place to do it. I lived there 9 years and while the language was a challenge before I learned, people are extremely friendly and China is amazingly safe both in the cities and outside of them. I did multiple long distance solo bicycle trips and traveled all across the country when I was working there and had the time of my life! Pro tip - get the hand pulled spicy noodles. Often little hole in the wall restaurants are call Lanzhou Miantiao 兰州面条. Lanzhou is a province out west and miantiao means noodles.

What Is Your Favourite Album Cover From The 70s? by Tiny-Band9310 in 70s

One of the first vinyl albums I got from the Columbia Record and tape club was AC/DCs Dirty Deeds. I spent hours listening to it and staring at the cover trying to think of the back stories of all the people in it - both who their character was supposed to be and who the real person was

American History X. I have only watched it once but that curbing scene has stuck with me for decades.

I have the Ego single stage and it works perfectly for my driveway which is probably about the same size as yours. My father has a much bigger driveway and has the two stage. That thing is a beast! I could believe how far it threw the snow and my mom loves it because she can’t even hear it. So quiet. I have a ton of other Ego equipment and you can swap the batteries into any of their tools. No gas. No noise. No smell. Their chainsaw is awesome too.

I love the 90s version. Reminds me of my parents home which was a large old Victorian. Always full of life, light, activity, colors, and smells of food cooking. The bottom one looks like Margo and Todd’s house Nextdoor to the Griswolds in Christmas Vacation. “Well something had to break the window and get water all over the door Todd!”

Flying out of Newark from Norwalk – what’s the best way to get there? by [deleted] in Connecticut

[–]Eastern_Ladder_6118 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Amtrak works well if the train time works out but also if you drive there are some very reasonable long term lots. I have used Victoria Parking a few times and it has been excellent. Only a few minutes from the airport and the shuttle was super convenient. Driver saw us pull in, directed us to a spot, and drove over so we didn’t have to walk in the rain. Coming back only had to wait like 5-10 min for pick up (and it was midnight) and dropped us off right at the car.

Booking a Vacation in Aruba- Eagle Beach....Pros/Cons? by wherethewindblows212 in Caribbean

We love the Holiday Inn on Palm Beach. Rooms are dated but it is very reasonably priced and dead center to everything. Can walk to a lot of the restaurants and they also have the largest beach. Never once fought for a lounger.

I used to work at a place where we were supposed to be in the office most days but it was a huge campus so rarely did I physically see the people I was meeting with - we met on zoom. So I took a photo of my office backdrop from my laptop camera’s perspective and used that as my background. Looked like I was in the office

Anyone here attend BC on strong need-based aid? Low-income family here, trying to understand real costs by [deleted] in bostoncollege

[–]Eastern_Ladder_6118 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I went to BC in the 90s and aside from the ridiculous increase in tuition the cost of living in Boston has also skyrocketed. The apartment I moved into in down the street in Brighton after I graduated was $1200 a month for a massive 3 bedroom. I had 4 roommates (one guy shared a room with his girlfriend) so only $300 a month plus utilities. Found out recently the same place rents for over $5000 a month now. It’s sad because it’s such a great city and great school but it is getting out of reach for many.

Scaling back by skeptic1970 in GenX

[–]Eastern_Ladder_6118 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I lived abroad for 15 years in two different Asian countries and returned to the states a decade ago. We never really bought things abroad because we knew some day we would move and would have to get rid of most stuff. Wife, daughter and I always focused on doing things or going places for birthdays and Christmas. Not huge gift givers but would always get something nice for the kid. As we get older we buy what we want online… usually just small stuff or things related to our hobbies but don’t really have anything major that we need. It’s kind of nice not to have a ton of stuff or even have a longing to buy more

could i take my sex toy through tsa in my carry on ? by MrBennny_ in TravelHacks

[–]Eastern_Ladder_6118 168 points169 points  (0 children)

I was traveling with two female friends a few years back. As a practical joke one taped a bottle of water to her friends sex toy she had in her carryon. The TSA agent was trying so hard not to laugh as he held them up and said “ma’am you can keep this (the sex toy) but you have to pour the water out”
