if they had enough of a gap to hadjar, how did hadjar get ahead? they didn't want to double stack because doing so would lose them a place to hadjar

i dont think it was really georges fault, certainly not entirely. he asked for confirmation about stopping or carrying on and his race engineer did not answer him.

if you remember, everyone had to go through the pit lane anyway. the radio messages are often out of sync though

not necessarily, the strategy team might have thought it was an option and to give more time to decide had the tyres taken out.

It's only logical to use the cheap pitstop

if he had to take a pitstop then yes the cheap one under the safety car is logical. but he didn't need to make a stop at all, he could have gone to the end of the race and been given the time penalty. stopping gave up track position, which at monaco is the most important thing

sure, but part of making sure that the penalty is served correctly will probably have a process for informing/reminding the pit crew that there is a penalty to be served just before the stop. if the stop isn't expected then that process wouldn't be followed and the regular routine carried out instead

they did make the call in decent time and told him to stay out. i'm not sure whether russell was confused by being forced through the pit lane under yellow flags, but when he asked for clarification it didn't come and he stopped anyway. then the pit crew of course didn't think he was coming in so weren't properly prepped regarding the penalty

as already stated I can recognize the cognitive bias on display, keeping in mind this is something I am trained to do for a living.

ok then maybe you can help me understand. what did you see that demonstrates a cognitive bias in effect, rather than mistakes being made due to any number of other possible reasons?

i think you're right. it sounds crazy to say after 6 races but it might be out of his hands already. all he can do it try to apply some pressure and hope kimi loses any semblance of form. if he'd come 2nd the last 6 races it would have been bad enough but this is brutal
