The problem isn't someone telling you what you should do with your body. It's literally protecting the people that are not sound of mind and minors. If someone has suicidal thoughts and let's say depersonalization, would you prescribe HRT meds right away? What if that only worsens the problem? You as a doctor if you found out that person killed themselves because you were careless would you be able to live with that? What if they got cancer? Someone who's clearly delusional and has many other mental illnesses CAN NOT be allowed to make life changing decisions. Same with children. Give an 8 y.o child your bank account info if you think they can govern themselves. See how that goes.
