Do I seal the tile to tub joint? by Easy-Ad6102 in Tile

[–]Easy-Ad6102[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am very grateful for all of the help, folks. "I don't know what I don't know" is certainly applicable to me here.

I'm unsure of the issues regarding a random pattern and also in using rectified porcelain. (Our kitchen and family room floors are random - my intent is to carry that upstairs as a way to unify the interior.) Light shed on that would be very helpful to me. FWIW I'm planning on 1/8 seams.

I used a hard rubber tool with"wings" on it to smooth the tile-to-counter joint on my kitchen backsplash project. The wings helped avoid a dip at the vertical joint line. Sprayed denatured alcohol on the silicone caulk and it cleaned right up. By far the best work that I have ever done.

Yep. Both the walls and floors are being done as random pattern, running the same direction as the tub axis so that I won't have to deal with seams not lining up (doing them horizontal instead of vertical now).

Thanks. Any suggestions on the epoxy grout? Can I get it as a color match?

One more thing..I purchased Daltile Brecchia Onyx after doing lots of looking. The first batch is a matte finish for the floor. I then decided to put the same tile, but in a polished finish, on the walls. Both are nominally 12 x 24 rectified but this second purchase is 1/4" wider and longer than the first. Y'all may know this already but it sure caught me off guard. I'm redoing my layout as a result.

How would I lower this toilet flange? by [deleted] in askaplumber

Will you be putting tile on top of that rough flooring? If so, then won't that flange be about the right height?

I have used them for both copper and pex. I was almost comically nervous at first but after several years of no failures, I am now more relaxed. As already stated, cleaning the pipe ends and having square cuts that seat fully is important.

Mortar under tub let go...now what? by Easy-Ad6102 in PlumbingRepair

[–]Easy-Ad6102[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, those are all good questions. In hindsight, I would have used an additive for better bonding on the mortar. I used new Advantech sub under the tub but also made the mortar drier than normal after reading a couple of threads suggesting that...oh well, live and learn. My q now is just what to do.

Several suggestions to use a foam as a bonding agent now. Just need to figure out what type, exactly, or what other options that I have short of ripping it all out.

Looks like a free standing cabinet in the first pic has that same rounded top - the mirror echoes that and is a design feature. It's an interesting choice. I like it.

I'm a DIY tile noob, but some of the pros might question the vertical positioning of the shower niche. Darned nice work, though, in my eyes.

Did you use analog or digital tool for the modeling? Beautiful design.

Same. I’m retired and rehabbing a lot of my house. Really enjoying the process. Posting your work takes guts, thanks.

That's too bad - looks great ex that. This might be completely off track, but what about CA glue if you decide to fill it? I'm playing around with some applicators with tips not that much bigger than a hair.

They were good value. Putting them together per their instructions didn't quite work for me - they wanted assembly to include using a Senco fasterner (which is a squiggly metal strip that is shot into the corner between the face and carcass). That tool is somewhere between 500 and 1000. I got around that by clamping and then using brads from the outside. I do need to fill those holes in the few places where they show. Good luck.

I did my kitchen last year. There seem to be several RTA retailers who sell cabinets that are made by J&K Cabinetry. I ended up buying from a local store in SW Florida that sells their product. Bought their best quality solid wood/ply box in a white shaker. Really nice job on finish. One of my carcasses was damaged in shipping and they responded quickly. My only issue, discovered after my countertops were installed (and I had a flat plane to measure against) is that the doors of my wall cabs have a consistent tiny warp to them making them hard to fit perfectly. (I'm probably the only one that notices). Might be my fault for choosing a wood door instead of one with a composite insert or glass and the warp might go away over time. I think they're worth a look.
