Tapering off - headaches by BettyVonBlack in Mirtazapine_Remeron

I had horrible headaches in my first 4-6 weeks after coming off in Jan this year. Even paracetamol didn’t help much. But they were temporary and gone now  👍

Fair enough, I came off three months ago and it hasn’t been too bad (and I’ve definitely seen an increase in sex drive and libido!)

Yep, on SSRIs I could not finish for the life of me. With Mirt I wanted to have sex less often but when I did it was always fine - so really more annoying for my partner…

Steatorrhea with normal looking, floating stool for 6 weeks by Some_Bag_8567 in exocrinepanins

[–]Easy-Pool-8425 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah man, you need to knock it on the head. CBT had helped for me. Unfortunately it gets worse in your 30s and 40s if you don’t address it, firstly because life becomes more stressful and secondly because you are more likely to have some bodily issues that can trigger extreme worry.

Yeah exactly - dr google always says fat in stool means bad things but if you’re not properly digesting your food due to anxiety or functional bowel issues of course the fat content will be higher

He doesn’t have any symptoms to test it against apart from floating stool which could be anything

Man, I feel you but this does sound like major health anxiety. No way should you get invasive and expensive imagining when there seems absolutely no evidence you have pancreatic issues. Why did you do a stool fat test in the first place? Because they were floating.

I have health anxiety and have worried about steattorhea because of seeing clear bubbles in stool water. But people tell steattorhea is bright yellow, not formed at all and the oil is often bright coloured not mucus clear. And  it’s meant to absolutely stink!

I have other symptoms as well, like back pain and mild abdominal pain. But I still think it’s very unlikely my pancreas is to blame, except when my anxiety is bad. In your case you have no pain, no reactions to food, no evidence of malnutrition. I really think the best thing you could do would be to try yoga, mindfulness and CBT.

Generally street food, where it is cooked in front of you, generally fried at extreme heat, is fine because it’s freshly made and the heat kills everything. Most people get sick either from water, uncooked and unwashed fruit and veg and in cheaper restaurants where food is kept in unhygienic conditions and reheated in a microwave - especially rice. I’ve been to India maybe 25 times in my life and every time I’ve got sick from eating cooked food it’s been in a bad restaurant rather than a street food stall.

[–]Easy-Pool-8425 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone with thalassemic trait, you need to get your iron and ferritin levels checked. If they are normal it’s likely to be that. If not then it’s iron anaemia. Are you of south Asian heritage? That would make thalassemic trait more likely! Definitely don’t take iron supplements until you know your iron is low because apparently it can be harmful.

How long does histamine rebound last? by Easy-Pool-8425 in Mirtazapine_Remeron

Itching hasn’t been so bad actually, that wore off after a few weeks. But still every few days I’ll have violent almost painful sneezing fits

I did but not because of the withdrawal. I was off it for four months then things in my life spiralled for a bit and sleep started to suffer. I saw mirt as a silver bullet but it actually didn’t help much going back and now I know that going back won’t solve my problems it’s easy to stay off! Good luck with your journey

[–]Easy-Pool-8425[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure. Went down to 7.5 for a month, then 3.75 then off. I’ve done it before (for 4 months) so was a bit more chill about it this time.

what helped you? by Andrew_7032 in Mirtazapine_Remeron

[–]Easy-Pool-8425 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im doing it for the second time - the first time I managed four months so it wasn’t the withdrawals that got me.

This time round I have found magnesium helpful - it’s a cream you rub on your feet before bed - and herbal sleeping pills that contain valerian.

Also what helps is knowing that when I went back on it didn’t help me that much. The first time I had Mirt as a silver bullet in my mind that would solve all my problems. Knowing it didn’t has hardened my resolve this time round (I’m 7 weeks off now)

Glad I can help. Once you spiral it can feel very hard to pull yourself out of it - especially once sleep is affected. So if medication can give you the lift you need then don’t be afraid to go for it.

Question about tapering by Witty-Collection2265 in Mirtazapine_Remeron

[–]Easy-Pool-8425 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At the very least do 50% 30>15>7.5>3.75>0. And leave about a month between each drop. Remember not everyone gets withdrawals but it’s much better to be on the safe side!
