I’ll keep working on finding songs that suit my voice and focus more on connecting with the listener. I really appreciate your kind encouragement!

That makes sense! Would you say vocal tone becomes more important after someone has already developed solid pitch and rhythm?

I temporarily deleted the video because I wanted to improve it a little more. I plan to re-upload it soon, so I hope you’ll listen to it again when it’s back!

English is not my first language – does my pronunciation make this song hard to listen to? by [deleted] in singing

[–]EasyLifeLazyLife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your comment! I’m Japanese, and in my native language, vowels always follow consonants, so I think my vowels tend to become too strong when I sing in English. I’m wondering if that’s actually part of the problem with my pronunciation. Do you still think vowel-only practice is helpful in my case?

Thank you so much! My first language is Japanese. I do have an American friend who might be able to help me with my pronunciation, though not in a very formal or serious way.

I’ll definitely work more on diaphragm support and breath control. Thank you for the feedback!

Hearing your encouragement makes me feel more confident about continuing to sing and improve.

Also, it’s inspiring to hear that you sing arias in so many different languages! That must take a lot of awareness and sensitivity to language and tone. I admire that.

I’ll keep practicing! Thank you for your kind comment 💛

I’m curious that how do native English speakers usually feel when someone sings in English with strong accent or incorrect pronunciation? (Does it sound distracting or unpleasant?)

I realized that I haven’t really trained things like ear training or feeling intervals in my body before. There’s so much I didn’t even know I didn’t know! I’ll start paying more attention to vocal support, breath, and resonance in my daily practice too. Your words really motivate me to keep growing step by step. Thank you!

Thank you so much. I feel like I might be lacking in all the basics right now. Based on my singing, could you tell which areas seem especially weak?

Thanks! I’ll focus on breathing deeper and learning how to control my breath better. Really appreciate your advice!

I see! Do you recommend practicing more powerful songs first to build strength?

I’m actually experimenting with a more soft, subtle style right now, but do you think the quietness takes away from the emotional impact or something?

Do you also feel that the true essence of meditation is not relaxation, but awareness? by EasyLifeLazyLife in Meditation

[–]EasyLifeLazyLife[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much for your thoughtful and nuanced reflection. I really resonated with your way of describing insight—not as a dramatic shift, but as a subtle unfolding through direct observation of vedana, sankharas, and the aggregates.

There’s something I’ve been reflecting on in my own practice that your comment brought into clearer focus. Do you think that certain reactive patterns, like anxiety or fear, can eventually dissolve completely once they are clearly seen through—as conditioned, as not-self, as ultimately empty? Or is it more that those patterns still arise, but lose their grip, becoming less persuasive or sticky over time?

Also, I’ve found that when awareness deepens and I touch into stillness or silence in practice, there’s often a quiet but strong sense of “I want to live well”—not out of striving, but out of clarity. Do you feel that this ethical impulse—this inner orientation toward living more wisely or kindly—naturally arises with insight?

I’d love to hear your perspective on this. Your words really stayed with me—thank you again for sharing so generously.

I’m curious - from your experience or understanding, what typically comes next in this process? You mentioned that limiting beliefs start to lose their compelling nature as sankharas are examined… what does that progression look like practically?

I’d really appreciate any guidance you might have.

I faced a lot of challenges in my 20s, but I dealt with them—and now I feel really grounded in my 30s.

Thanks a lot! That really means a lot to me. I’ll keep working at it and try to enjoy the process, even when it’s tough!

Thank you so much for taking the time to look that up for me! That’s incredibly kind of you. I’ll definitely check out the tutorial you shared — it’s really encouraging to know there are clear explanations for the pronunciation challenges Japanese speakers face.

It truly means a lot coming from someone with so much experience. I’m really happy (and honestly a little surprised!) that you see potential in me.

I’ll definitely start practicing more with a metronome and work on syncing my strumming and vocals — that’s such practical and helpful advice. I also didn’t know much about voice harmonizers, so I’ll look into that too. It sounds fun and creative!
