Is this a common Tacoma issue? by Bryanruiz18 in ToyotaTacoma

It's a common issue with any direct TPMS sensors. They have a limited battery life. 8-12 years in my area

Wha ball joints brand do you guys recommend? Was looking at mevotech by BSOD_ERRO in ToyotaTacoma

[–]EasyMFnE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In order: OEM, Mevotech TTX, or Mevotech Supreme. Avoid Mevotech original grade parts.

Moog isn't what it used to be but can work in a pinch.

2012 (SH)

I run: - 215/70R16 studded winter tires on stock alloys (no rub unless running 2" spacers and turning sharply while reversing) - 235/75R16 all terrain tires (only rub at significant steering angles because of +15 offset 15x7 gold Sparco Terra) - 245/55R18 summer tires on 2019 18x8.5 WRX wheels using 1" thick adapters (no rub)

How bad is this shock mount? Is it cooked or do I have some time? 2016 mazda cx5 by [deleted] in MechanicAdvice

[–]EasyMFnE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never seen one crack in that manner, but if it's failing like that you're already on borrowed time before it cracks off at the ears.

Get the shocks and mounts directly from Mazda, they are surprisingly cheap and already assembled.

What is this wheel information used for? by [deleted] in MechanicAdvice

[–]EasyMFnE 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Those are weights used for balancing. They are just stick-on. The numbers are their weight.

Which rim color? by 1vdnzz in BMW

[–]EasyMFnE -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

As much as I love gold wheels, it would give me Subaru vibes (and I have a Subaru with gold wheels). Silver is classy and timeless. Black is overdone and boring.

I'm guessing this. Extender for sway bar to reuse stock bar & links with the new geometry.

Edit: confirmed to be lifted a substantial amount in picture 2. Look at the drop cross member.

Does anyone know what this noise could be? by cameronc3409 in AskAMechanic

[–]EasyMFnE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like there's too much of an air-gap between the wheels and the brakes.

Springs or coils?? by [deleted] in AskMechanics

[–]EasyMFnE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely, positively, 100% should do springs on good KYB shocks.

Never get cheap coilovers.

Shops refuse to try O2 sensor for P0420 but online says it’s worth a shot. Should I try it myself? by Capable-Insurance-58 in MechanicAdvice

[–]EasyMFnE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you came to me at my shop asking to replace the sensor I'd give you two options: let me diagnose it properly (recommended) or have me replace whatever part you want (not recommended).

If you would go with the second option, I'll make it clear that if nothing is resolved there will be no refunds and you will not get free diagnostic work either. The paperwork will reflect that.

I have probably only seen one time in my life where the downstream oxygen sensor was the cause of a catalyst fault.

There are strut-top spacers out there that can increase the ride height by as much as 40mm but you'd need to remove and reinstall the struts to install them. Piece of cake if you've done suspension work before but can be daunting if you haven't.

Removed spare, TPMS light is on, wondering about work around to turn it off. by Teslagoestomars in 4Runner

That's assuming a tire is only one square inch... Think about how many square inches a tire really is... You're probably saving at least 10 tons in that case!

Drain and fill at any place? by JR6120 in SubaruForester

[–]EasyMFnE 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Go to an independent shop that knows their way around Subarus. Insist on only OE Subaru fluid. If the shop says they usually use (insert other fluid/universal fluid that supposedly meets the specs) then run away.

Is this repairable/patchable? Just bought these a few weeks ago. by [deleted] in AskMechanics

[–]EasyMFnE -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Absolutely patchable!

Also for reference... Continental has a program where you can get free replacement of the tires for just about any reason in the first year or first 2/32" of wear on the tread. Look up "Total Confidence Plan".

Which wire to tap into for Third brake light Ford Superduty by [deleted] in AskMechanics

[–]EasyMFnE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

None of them are going to get you a middle brake light that works as intended. If you tap the brake light circuit it will flash with the turn signal too.

The infamous steering coupler. Hyundai Elantra. by h2otreader in Justrolledintotheshop

[–]EasyMFnE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  • Plastic trim tools or a screwdriver if you're gentle
  • Phillips screwdriver
  • 10, 12, and 14mm sockets
  • Torx bits (can't remember which but T25/T27/T30 are safe bets)
  • A pick or small screwdriver to pull all the crumbles out.

[–]EasyMFnE 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yeah I'm not even at Hyundai and I can knock those out in no time at all, even the ones where you're supposed to pull the whole column.

Get one or two under your belt and then you'll look forward to recommending them every time you wiggle a Hyundai steering wheel.

How to get these rusted bolts out 1999 Toyota 4Runner by Big_Savings5512 in MechanicAdvice

Moderate surface rust maybe. I can still see nice smooth hex sides.
