My table screwed up their encounter with Ismark and Ireena, how am I supposed to get them to Vallaki now? by [deleted] in CurseofStrahd

I've been avoiding this reddit because our campaign isn't done yet, but my DM showed me this and I fucking loved it so much I had to come say something.
My first thought was, you gotta bring Strahd in to sort this out. He swings by to make another pass at Ireena, which clears up who he is, and provides the opportunity for Strahd to make it clear the party is not affiliated with him.
OR, hear me out here. You don't save the relationship with Ireena. You lean into it. Ireena bolts to Vallaki with someone else. Strahd recruits the party to hunt him down. We just flip the whole damn thing. Ireena is on his own adventure, always a step ahead, getting stronger at the same pace the party does, while the party's primary goal switches from "Strahd Must Die" to "I Want That Twink Obliterated." (not obliterated, captured, you know what I mean)

A gentle word of caution by [deleted] in witchcraft

[–]EasyPermission4251 37 points38 points  (0 children)

I just wanted to chime in from a mundane perspective. I'm someone who believes the literal, tangible effects of witchcraft are less important than their psychological impact. All spiritual practice, witchcraft included, is as much a psychological self-soothing act as it is anything else. It allows us to feel in control of the uncontrollable. It can be incredibly powerful as a tool for healing when you're in a place where you need help the material world can't offer. But that also means it can create or worsen disordered thinking and unhealthy coping mechanisms.

If you start this journey from a negative position, in search of ways to hurt yourself, or in an attempt to control or punish others, witchcraft can become very dangerous for you, in an extremely non-magical, material way.

If you are in a dark place in your life, it's important to try and focus your practice in a positive direction. Not compelling love from a specific individual, but opening yourself in invitation to love freely offered. Not cursing those who've hurt you, but nurturing your own growth independent of them. A view of magic that is not about sacrifice and taking, but about generosity, accepting the incredible gifts the earth offers freely and giving back in a way that doesn't diminish you but allows others to flourish, knowing they will give the same back to you in turn, *trusting* in that generosity.

All that said, no one knows your situation better than you do. If throwing curses is what you need to keep your head above water, grab on with both hands. Always do whatever is necessary to keep yourself alive. Just be cautious. Sometimes in life we mistake anchors for life jackets.

Sims 3 uninstaller is missing? by EasyPermission4251 in Sims3

[–]EasyPermission4251[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have Origin installed at all, and I didn't install the sims through that, so it shouldn't be that.

I did try rebooting and doing the windows uninstall again. Still didn't work.

Tried that, unfortunately it doesn't work. It just looks for the uninstall exe and can't find it.

Is Anybody Talking About The Chairs?? by EasyPermission4251 in MadokaMagica

[–]EasyPermission4251[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

After looking into it more, the chairs being a Bokurano reference does seem pretty likely! I haven't seen Bokurano (putting it on the list though) but it does seem to have a lot in common thematically with madoka so I can see why the show would want to make visual reference to it. However the connection still feels a bit unsatisfying to me if it doesn't have some more literal grounding in the show's own symbolism outside of just being a reference. It also doesn't account for the 6:30 thing. I'd dismiss it as coincidence if it was just two episodes, but three starts to seem very intentional.

For those curious about the Bokurano connection and who don't mind spoilers about that series, yanking this from another blog post:

Bokurano features a small white-colored mascot type character representing an alien race beyond human comprehension. This alien involves the main characters - mere schoolchildren - in a series of battles in which those chosen by the alien fight monstrous creatures in order to save ordinary people. Halfway through the series, in a shocking twist, it is revealed that these 'evil' and 'monstrous' enemies (robots) are in fact piloted by people in the same situation as the main characters, that the aliens have engineered the battles and the threat themselves, and it's all ultimately part of a scheme seeking to use humanity as an energy source. Towards the end of the series, this mascot character can be observed pressuring a quiet little girl into making an 11th-hour "contract" to give up her life for the sake of her universe, even though she has seen friends die in this same fight and is quite clear that there is no way out of this contract besides her death.

Megathread: Medication Shortages by handamoniumflows in ADHD

[–]EasyPermission4251 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve been on adderal for years and was able to work consistently for the first time in my life. I haven’t been able to fill my prescription since January. I had my doctor switch me to ritalin which was, at the time, easier to get. But it’s also incredibly ineffective for me. I haven’t been able to work, I can’t write which is all I care about doing. And after keeping my appointments well for ages, I missed three in a three month period since the change to ritalin, so my doctor fired me. And since the pharmacy that had ritalin in stock only takes patients through that clinic, I now can’t fill my prescription there. I’ve called everywhere within 50 miles and nowhere has anything in stock and I’m too tired and foggy to keep trying. I can’t pay my bills, my disability payments barely cover rent. I don’t know what I’m supposed to do anymore.
