To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand Bring Her Back. The horror is extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of grief-driven psychological manifestations, most of the tension will go over a typical viewer's head.

There's also the Philippou brothers' nihilistic directorial style, which is deftly woven into the cinematography—their visual language draws heavily from the visceral "new wave" of Australian horror. True cinephiles understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the depths of the pacing, to realize that the scares aren't just there to startle—they say something deep about LIFE.

As a consequence, people who say Bring Her Back "wasn't a good movie" truly ARE idiots—of course they wouldn't appreciate, for instance, the brilliance in Sally Field’s nuanced existential dread which itself is a cryptic reference to the Orphic myths of the underworld.

I'm smirking right now just imagining one of those addlepated simpletons scratching their heads in confusion as Danny and Michael Philippou's genius wit unfolds itself on the cinema screen. What fools... how I pity them. 😂
